A little over a week after the release of their third LP A Fragrant World , Yeasayer has put out a video for the album's track "Longevity." Brooklyn group Yeasayer top this week's list of new releases as they continue down the path away from their initial indie-tribal leanings with, what our Music Director, Don Yates, calls "a darker and more adventurous take on the dance-friendly synth-pop of 2010’s Odd Blood , combining warped, buzzing synths, jittery rhythms, processed vocals and dystopian lyrics." No doubt, Fragrant World will elevate Yeasayer's indie status to its rightful place beside NY contemporaries Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective. It's tough being Yeasayer. Out of all the bands to spawn around the time of the "Brooklyn band" tag (and survive the initial onslaught of hype), they always seem to be overshadowed by their contemporaries. For those who didn't get their Coachella fix this year ( or didn't get tickets to next year's fest ), festival promoter Goldenvoice has a solution: the S.S. Coachella. Departing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in December, the ship sails to the Bahamas and Jamaica, and while in transit, the cruise will host performances from Pulp, Hot Chip, Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells, Warpaint, El-P, Black Lips, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, and Father John Misty among others.
