As producer Randall Poster did earlier this year , Mojo Magazine is taking a retrospective look at Fleetwood Mac's classic LP, Rumours , in the form of a new tribute album titled Rumours Revisited. The publication asked Yeasayer to provide their take on the opening track "Second Hand News". It's a great fit, not only because the Brooklyn quintet often draws from the track's structures and harmonies in their original material, but because it's a bouncy, fun pop tune just itching for a modern rendition. Yeasayer is at their best when they use Chris Keating's idiosyncratic whine to build tracks that feel otherworldly, like some strange alien incarnation of psychedelic pop/R&B. Fragrant World , although a mess at times, does exactly this, and "Glass of the Microscope" is the best example of it. The beat feels like it comes from the depths and Keating's vocals are played with until they've lost all humanness. It's a track that, like most great Yeasayer tunes, builds into something almost tribal - something that feels vaguely spiritual. [...]
