Never mind, Never mind. Yeasayer, O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

The trajectory of the somehow effete Brooklyn psych brigade known only as Yeasayer has taken more swerves than most baseballs. Début full-length All Hour Cymbals was an introspective work seamed with the expressively ethnic, though still pop-geared sensibilities of vocalist-cum-guitarist Anand Wilder, while its 2010 follow-up, Odd Blood , took the formula and twisted it beyond recognition as Chris Keating polluted an already potent mélange with an unmixed disco leaning. It heralded the trio's imminent prominence, and with that their induction into the realms of pop, popular culture, and so forth. [...]

Review/Listen: People Get Ready – People Get Ready

Review/Listen: People Get Ready – People Get Ready The Brooklyn-based indie quartet  People Get Ready  officially formed towards the end of 2009 and their self-titled debut reflects the familiar sounds of being stuck a few years behind. Maybe they sound like a Yeasayer and Dirty Projectors hybrid because the band features a former Yeasayer member as well as a former touring guitarist for David Byrne , but this record shows a young band wearing their influences on their sleeves, which makes for a forgettable experience [...]

Quick Review – Yeasayer – Fragrant World

Here's an album I somehow missed a few weeks ago (not that surprising really, I have a habit of dropping out of it all) from 2007/8 faves Yeasayer . Back with what can only be described as a darker and dubbier sound. Demonstrated by the lolloping beat in 'Longevity' to the sinster calypso-esq 'Henrietta'. Don't panic though there are the odd flashings of 'Ambling Alp' or 'Madder Red' it's just hidden under a brooding layer of synths and beats. All in all this is a much more grown up offering from Brooklyn threesome. Yeasayer - Fragrant World (iTunes) (Spotify) [...]

Trial & Error. Animal Collective, Centipede Hz.

Trial & Error. Animal Collective, Centipede Hz. As with all forms of experimentation, every Animal Collective endeavour feels a case study of various successes and failures; of trial and error. For every Merriweather Post Pavilion there's a Fall Be Kind ; for every Leaf House a Pride And Fight. Thus the overriding sensation with their every effort concerns how capable Maryland's most noteworthy contemporary musicologists are of achieving a balance between the direct and the directionless. With ninth studio LP Centipede Hz , equilibrium isn't exactly achieved, although unquestionably some monumental feats of listenability are accomplished. [...]

FYF Fest Day 2 Review

By Malvina Rincón FYF Fest took place over Labor Day weekend in Los Angeles. It was two days of eclectic music in the sun in one of the most musically gifted cities in the country. Despite ironic clothing choices (i.e. Hawaiian shirts) paired with equally ironic dance moves (i.e. The Running Man) from some hipsters, the audience was diverse and as warm as the weather. The DYI spirit of the festival, which has been running since 2004, did not go ...

Yeasayer – Fragrant World album review

Yeasayer – Fragrant World album review If I say that Yeasayer’s new release brings to mind images of a futuristic-electronic-R&B voyage through outer space with occasional stints in the desert—complete with Cubist wardrobe and/or perspective—then you’ll know that Fragrant World is anything but a banal experience. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, the quintet band formed in 2006 with members Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, Anand Wilder, Ahmed Gallab, and Jason Trammell. Performing at SXSW festival in 2007 led to the release of their first album All Hour Cymbals later that year, its contents blending psychedelic, soul, snap and Middle Eastern [...]

Review: Yeasayer – Fragrant World

Yeasayer Fragrant World out now MP3 | CD | Vinyl Yeasayer have risen to prominence largely on the back of their creative, catchy songwriting; however, their embrace of risk may have been just as important of a factor.  Their approach to music has been “big” in almost every sense of the word.  Every album seems to be an attempt to even further expand the Yeasayer world, grabbing at moods and sounds that were never there [...]

Review: Fragrant World – Yeasayer

Remember that Entourage episode 'The Sorkin Notes'? The song that plays over the end titles, that's 'Sunrise' by Yeasayer. They’re a band stuck in both the past and future. How would tribal preacher music sound like as interpreted by the denizens of 2080? That’s debut All Hour Cymbals . How would tribal preacher music sound like as interpreted by the pop-glop obsessed denizens of 2080? That’s follow-up Odd Blood . Ethnic sensibilities of more than a couple thousand years ago picked up from continents a couple million paces away all clumped together [...]

Review/Listen: Yeasayer – Fragrant World

Review/Listen: Yeasayer – Fragrant World During a recent conversation I had playfully discussing the kind of music that you would want to hear as you “die on the dancefloor”, we were mentioning a few bands, but none came as close to the harrowing, oft-brazen sounds of the latest from the Brooklyn trio, Yeasaye r . With their patented off-kilter percussion and saturated bass, they have created an album for the end-times, without much preamble. Their previous records- the freak-folk  All Hour Cymbals , and the playful  Odd Blood - poised them as an experimental, [...]

Perfumed with Pop. Yeasayer, Fragrant World.

Perfumed with Pop. Yeasayer, Fragrant World. The variegated lands and soundscapes – the ponds bubbling effervescent luminosity; the hills rolling globular; the blobby synths of Yeasayer be painted; no, perfumed with pop. Such is their penchant; their wholly natural wont. The logical end product of the hugely efficacious symbiosis of Chris Keating and Anand Wilder, it's once again at its best on Fragrant World as the quirky traditionalisms of the latter be intermingled with the progressive, forward-thunk songwriting squirms of the former. Rarely are two artists quite so finely attuned with one another. Lyrically, where [...]

Yeasayer – Fragrant World (2012)

Review: Yeasayer live at Music Hall of Williamsburg

Review: Yeasayer live at Music Hall of Williamsburg Photos by G. (from left) Anand Wilder and Chris Keating of Yeasayer On August 15, 2012 after a pretty intense rainstorm, Brooklyn's own Yeasayer played an incredibly sold out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.  It was my first time seeing the electronic/psych-pop band and I had a good time.  For those that could not be in attendance for the band's first show in quite some time, the show was recorded and will be streamed on youtube for a limited time. Yeasayer – Fragrant World

Yeasayer – Fragrant World It's always interesting when a band decide to experiment. In a lot of ways, Yeasayer [ Twitter / Facebook ] have constantly experimented throughout their career, so I wouldn't be particularly sticking my head above the parapet when I declare that their evolution since 20072s  All Hour Cymbals  has been fascinating to watch. Last time out, though, the then-trio (Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton and Anand Wilder) decided to experiment by writing -  gasp  - pop music. The result of that push for mainstream attention was that 20102s  Odd Blood was a sensational album, proving that the band could work with [...]

Listen: Yeasayer – Fragrant World (full album via scavanger hunt) Ealier today, Yeasayer came out with the following: "HEADING: PSCYVOTV FROM: YEASAYER DATE: 9:24am. Aug. 1. 2012 We have received a message that we are on the verge of embargoed information being leaked through the cracks of the digital universe. Once again an attempt to tell the story before our mouths can spit. In order to have the edge we have created PSCYVOTV standing for PREEMPTIVE SELF-COMMISSIONED YEASAYER VORSTELLUNG or TRACK VISUALIZER. [...]

Download: Yeasayer – Longevity

Download: Yeasayer – Longevity Last month we brought you 'Henrietta', the ruturn of Brooklyn three-piece Yeasayer, who are following up their brilliant 2010 album Odd Blood with this year's Fragrant World . We said of 'Henrietta': "It’s a pretty icy pop song, cold slabs of synth and chilled melodies sit alongside beats. It’s very good to have them back..." Well now we have more! 'Longevity' continues the group's near perfect record for crafting wonderfully wonky RnB. There is something incredibly removed about it all, not necessarily a bad thing when you're dealing with robo [...]

[Review/Listen] – Bear In Heaven – “I Love You, It’s Cool”

I thanked the music god when Bear In Heaven’s new album “I Love You, It’s Cool” finally came out. The band had posted a stream of the album playing 400,000% slower than normal and it was so tedious. I understand their intentions for doing so, but doing something as gimmicky as that isn’t going to stop illegal downloads. So what does this album have apart from a silly stream, lush art design, and a boring music video? The short answer is; lots of tribal drumming. I’ve been excited for this album to drop for a long [...]
