The Brooklyn-based indie quartet  People Get Ready  officially formed towards the end of 2009 and their self-titled debut reflects the familiar sounds of being stuck a few years behind. Maybe they sound like a Yeasayer and Dirty Projectors hybrid because the band features a former Yeasayer member as well as a former touring guitarist for David Byrne , but this record shows a young band wearing their influences on their sleeves, which makes for a forgettable experience [...]

Here's an album I somehow missed a few weeks ago (not that surprising really, I have a habit of dropping out of it all) from 2007/8 faves Yeasayer . Back with what can only be described as a darker and dubbier sound. Demonstrated by the lolloping beat in 'Longevity' to the sinster calypso-esq 'Henrietta'. Don't panic though there are the odd flashings of 'Ambling Alp' or 'Madder Red' it's just hidden under a brooding layer of synths and beats. During a recent conversation I had playfully discussing the kind of music that you would want to hear as you “die on the dancefloor”, we were mentioning a few bands, but none came as close to the harrowing, oft-brazen sounds of the latest from the Brooklyn trio, Yeasaye r . It's always interesting when a band decide to experiment. In a lot of ways, Yeasayer [ Twitter / Facebook ] have constantly experimented throughout their career, so I wouldn't be particularly sticking my head above the parapet when I declare that their evolution since 20072s  All Hour Cymbals  has been fascinating to watch. I thanked the music god when Bear In Heaven’s new album “I Love You, It’s Cool” finally came out. The band had posted a stream of the album playing 400,000% slower than normal and it was so tedious. I understand their intentions for doing so, but doing something as gimmicky as that isn’t going to stop illegal downloads.
