We've been following Yellow Ostrich for a number of years now. In fact Alex Schaaf was one of the first musicians to get in contact with us, that was back in the day when his project was called The Chairs. My how times have changed. Yellow Ostrich is set to release their sophomore album, Strange Land , on March 6th. This album should mark a step forward for the band. Their previous album, The Mistress , was self-produced and created by Alex Schaaf doing it all. He played every instrument on the album. Strange Land is also self-produced, but Schaaf is joined by multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez, drummer Michael Tapper, and engineer Beau Sorenson (Death Cab for Cutie, Sparklehorse). Titled Strange Land , it follows The Mistress and was self-produced with engineer Beau Sorenson (Death Cab for Cutie, Sparklehorse). “Marathon Runner” starts out kinda hokey, to be honest…but if you give a minute to get into those first few crisp licks of guitar, it slowly builds into an excellent indie rock song. I can’t say enough about the instrumentation - the pulsating riff makes you feel like you are in a cave or underwater with the sound repeatedly washing over you.
