Alex Schaff and the guys from Yellow Ostrich are back at it again with a video for "Ghost" that tugs at the heartstrings. Director Frank Larson's adds a gorgeous visual dimension to the track. The piece evokes an extreme sense of loneliness, beginning wi th Schaff sitting alone staring out a window. But what makes it so hauntingly beautiful is how his memories are projected via 8mm home video across the dark house where he resides. Slowly, the video becomes an array of these hazy clips, ending as it begins. It's not going to brighten your day, but it's well worth a watch. [...]

And just like that, we've arrived at the second part of my Top 25 Albums of 2012 . As I've said, I easily could have listed 50 releases, but I realized that half of those would have been albums that I only listen to when I'm in a particular mood. In other words, they're not immediately accessible, and that to me knocks them down a notch. So, if you're looking for 25 releases that you can immediately dive into and love, this is the place to be. Enjoy. [...]

Baltimore's Beach House continue to impress with each and every release. This year's Bloom might be their best yet. It's definitely my personal favorite from the duo and one my top 10 favorite albums of 2012, which makes it incredibly difficult to pick one favorite. Bloom is one of those records you can listen to start to finish, over and over again. "Myth" was my first taste of Bloom and it's an incredible leadoff track. "Lazulli" is simply magical...or what I like to describe [...]

It's been a busy year for Yellow Ostrich , having released Strange Land earlier via Barsuk , but the band is already back at it again with a set of six brand new songs for your ears. The EP is titled Ghost , and the first single is currently available for you to download. It's interesting, as the group's clearly playing with utilizing empty space in order to bring to life some of the inner harmonies they produce with just the vocals. There's [...]
Good morning Freeloaders! Let's hang out and enjoy our last August Freeloader Friday with some music. And because we want you to fully enjoy this upcoming 3-day weekend (if you're in the U.S.!), we've stocked up on some goodies. If you're not about to dive into a long Labor Day ...
The Outside Lands countdown takes a highlighter to the inventive and adventurous Yellow Ostrich.
Sorry for the delay, but here it is, the fourth and final post of my favorite albums of 2012 (so far). If I had to rank my favorite albums of the year today, at least three of the albums below would make the cut. But alas, I still have about 5 months to narrow it down, but please check back in December to see who makes the cut. If you haven't already, be sure to check out parts 1-3 ( part 1 // part 2 [...]
Yellow Ostrich applies their songwriting blueprint to a complementary medium on "The Shakedown."
'The Shakedown' is Yellow Ostrich's second video from their sophomore release Strange Land. The video offers up a super cool neon, glow in the dark performance, so go ahead and turn off the lights and turn up the volume.
Yellow Ostrich have released a new video for “The Shakedown” from their excellent new album, Strange Land . The new video was directed by the band. Singer/guitarist Alex Schaaf said the following about the clip, "We made this video ourselves in Michael's basement. With no budget and minimal gear, we [...]
Remember those crazy parties you used to have in your basement with, like, 20 friends? You'd break open a pack of glow sticks and dance around underneath a black light to awesome music? No? Guess that's just me. Kidding aside, Yellow Ostrich go day-glo in the subtlest of ways in their new video for Strange [...]
Yellow Ostrich are without a doubt one of the more original indie rock groups in the game right now. Their new video for “The Shakedown” furthers helps my point. While the song starts off a sweet vocal driven ballad, the song evolves into an all out rock show appropriate time, full of choppy guitars. The band don their best glow in the dark gear to help show off their slightly sinister side. Pick up their sophomore record, Strange Land , out now . Yellow Ostrich - “The Shakedown”
Here's a stonker of a tune from New York-based experimental rock three-piece Yellow Ostrich : The Shakedown is taken from their second album Strange Land , which was released on 6th March. Strange Land (like their 2010 debut, The Mistress ) and The Shakedown is described by singer-guitarist Alex Schaff as a song "about imaginary people" [...]
I forgot to share this really dope video with you guys. Yellow Ostrich released his sophmore record, Strange Land , recently and “Marathon Runner” is the uplifting 1st single. The video features two kids who are going through life’s wild and unpredicable journey. While they are unsure of what they want to do, they can’t wait for all the impeccable adventures. I really want one of those lime green YO snapbacks. Get Strange Land now . Yellow Ostrich - “Marathon Runner”
Barsuk Records is excited to debut the video for Yellow Ostrich "Marathon Runner," from the band's latest full-length, Strange Land. The clip, which was directed by Matthew Lessner, premiered on Noisey, Vice's new music video channel. The name Matthew Lessner might ring a bell: he released the feature "The Woods" last ...

We've been following Yellow Ostrich for a number of years now. In fact Alex Schaaf was one of the first musicians to get in contact with us, that was back in the day when his project was called The Chairs. My how times have changed. Alex, the bedroom musician, is now a trio with Michael Tapper and Jon Natchez and the band is signed to the coveted Barsuk Records with two full length albums under their belt. The addition of two more musicians has been a good one for the overall sound of the band. [...]

Yellow Ostrich I must admit, I have been remiss in not posting about Yellow Ostrich until now. I have been a fan of Alex Schaaf's bedroom pop project since The Mistress debuted on bandcamp and I've also been enjoying the new record, Strange Land , which came out last month on Barsuk. If you're reading this now, it's probably too late to catch them tonight ( April 12 ) at The Mercury Lounge, but they'll be [...]
Jason Vorhees never looked so pretty as he does with his golden glittered hockey mask in Yellow Ostrich's latest video for "Marathon Runner". "Marathon Runner" is the first single from Yellow Ostrich's excellent new album, Strange Land , that's currently available via Barsuk Records. Watch Yellow Ostrich's "Marathon Runner" video below. Yellow Ostrich released a visually mesmerizing video for their single, Marathon Runner . The video features, what appears to be, disillusioned kids going nuts on their neighborhood with Wolverine claws and Jason masks, included. The video was directed by Matthew Lessner, who released the feature "The Woods" last year and has previously directed videos for the Dirty Projectors, Local Natives and The Raveonettes. Check out the video below. Strangelands is available everywhere on Barsuk Records . MP3 : [...]
