![[video] PJ Harvey :: "The Words That Maketh Murder" & "The Last Living Rose"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3144365_lg.jpg)
It wasn't till a couple of weeks ago that I realized that PJ Harvey had been working on a new record, let alone that it was set to be released next month. I guess it's one of those instances where the best surprises come when you least expect it. Let England Shake is Polly Jean's eighth studio album, her first since 20072s White Chalk . From what I've been able to hear so far, this seems akin to a spiritual cousin of 20002s Stories from the City, Stories from the [...]

The husband/wife duo of Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore are Tennis , who currently call Denver their home. Their recently released debut, Cape Dory , has delighted me to no end since the end of last year, and it's safe to say that it's one of the first great albums to kick off the new year. Utilizing a sound that combines a lo-fi pop aesthetic with '60s beach guitar melodies, the album is just packed to the gills from beginning to end with wonderful pop gems. It's hard to pick just one [...]

After some deliberation about whether to continue this feature or not, The Weekly Graboid has once again returned to kick off another year. This feature has been a staple of this blog since the beginning, and even though it's a bit time-consuming every once in a while, it still serves as a major way of discovering a lot of the new music that comes out every week that I'm not able to cover on an individual basis. With that out of the way, let's see what this week's releases have to offer. Outside of a couple [...]

As I was sitting at my desk listening to Asobi Seksu's forthcoming album, it sort of dawned on me that this was indeed their fourth album since 2004. Just sort of amazing to think that time has gone by so quickly, as it feels as if I just discovered them yesterday. Anyways, yes, Fluorescence is the the new album which is due out on Valentine's Day in the UK, followed by a US release the next day. While the group has never really been able to shake that Shoegaze stigma that has [...]
For myself, one of the sadder bits of news in 2010 was the apparent breakup of Boston's Pants Yell! last April. The band released some absolutely stellar pop records, and came around the time where I was truly discovering that kind of unique sound which was culled from 80s/90s indiepop. After playing their final shows last May, one would hope we would be hearing something soon on the future endeavors of the members. Luckily, we didn't have to wait that long to find out. Towards the end of last year, former PY! frontman Andrew Churchman returned [...]

This week's list of releases is a prime example of how great being a music fan can be. It's such a completely overwhelming amount of great albums, that it would be just silly to recommend only a few. With new stuff from well-known bands like Of Montreal , Azure Ray (first album in seven years), Blonde Redhead , Weezer , The Walkmen , and Elf Power to some gems that are under the radar from Black Mountain , The Black Angels , and Megafaun - [...]

Even though it's been four years since DJ Shadow's Outsiders , it's obvious that the man that released the game-changing album Endtroducing... will probably never release anything like that again. I mean, that was made clear with the release of Private Press in 2002, but that is another story. Still, I'm always willing to build excitement for anything new, since the man isn't exactly prolific. Currently up on DJ Shadow's website are two new tracks that were previously available via a very limited edition 123 single. According [...]

Here's a lovely EP from Seapony I discovered a few weeks ago through some of my go to blogs . The trio make their way from Seattle and bring the jangly twee-pop that you will either love or hate. Obviously, you know where I stand with this kind of stuff. Imagine a lighter version of that surf-guitar sound of Best Coast mixed with the vocal quality of The Softies , and this is probably the end result. You can listen to [...]

Considering I haven't really mentioned a lot of albums I'm enjoying this year, I realized I've failed to recognize one of my favorite albums this year: Wild Nothing's Gemini . It's a fantastic debut, that has garnered some well-deserved praise - chief among them being from Mr. Ryan Adams, who has championed Jack Tatum's one-man band on Twitter. The debut is released in a time where bands like The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and The Radio Dept. (two recent bands that share the most [...]

I forgot to mention this release of Summer Camp's Young EP in this week's edition of the Graboid, but considering I've mentioned this band in the past and think they're great, they definitely deserve a post about it. Out now on Moshi Moshi , the EP features a great track for download to give you a taste of what you could expect from this London-based duo of Jeremy Warmsley (who also moonlights sometimes as a member of Fanfarlo ) and Elizabeth Sankey. Listening to "Veronica Sawyer" [...]

Proper review to come later once I get back from work tonight. Let's just say for now that it was a great night, and both bands absolutely killed. All of this despite an extremely bad handling of the long line to get into the show, which resulted in us missing maybe one or two songs from Beach House. Here are the photos in the meantime, courtesy of Jeremy Bigelow (click to enlarge / more after the cut).

The highlight for many in this week's list of new releases is Interpol's self-titled fourth album, which finds the band back within the friendly confines of Matador Records after fooling around with a major label on their third album, Our Love to Admire . I'm not sure if this new album is supposed to be a statement/reintroduction, considering it's self-titled and what not, but after listening a couple of times to and from work, nothing in particular happened to really grab my attention. Sadly, that has been the case for everything I've listened to from [...]

While listening to the collection of Jens Lekman great covers over at Pop Tarts Suck Toasted , I realized that I wasn't able to mention Lekman's new song that was released as a free download towards the end of July - due entirely to my extended absence from the blog. Even though it may be old news to most, I still wanted to give it a mention regardless. The song is titled "The End of the World is Bigger Than Love," and while there are no indications of an album announcement or even a [...]

One of the last posts I put up nearly a month ago involved news of the announcement of Belle and Sebastian's forthcoming album, which has a title now: Write About Love . Via the band's website , a lovely shot half-hour video shows the band performing two new songs titled "I Want The World to Stop" and "I Didn't See It Coming." The latter had first been seen via a live recording in Helsinki . The only problem I have with the video is that while it's great to watch the [...]

The Weekly...or for this occasion, "Monthly" Graboid is back once again after another lengthy absence. No excuses, but it's here and there is more than enough new stuff to sample for the month of August. As of right now I can promise updates on TYS this week, and possibly beyond considering I renewed my hosting service for another year. It's been extremely difficult to remain motivated with this site, but all the support from all of our readers is what makes me continue to push forward. I've also created a Tumblr page that I find [...]

Janelle Monáe isn't even halfway through her 20s, but when you listen to her music, it seems like she already has a lifetime's worth of ideas bursting out of her head. Trying to place her music into a genre will tend to lead to awkward combinations, like retrofuturistic-R&B-space-pop- funk-rock, that don't to justice to her seamless blend of styles. And that music comes with the whole package- a great voice, a skilled and versatile backing band, guest vocalists ranging from Big Boi to Of Montreal, fancy footwork, and a visual style all her own. So, rather than try [...]

Between the many great albums out this week, coupled with those missed from last week, going to the record store would provide quite the headache in what to pick up other than Arcade Fire's latest. Obviously, the band's third album, The Suburbs , is what everyone will be primed to pick up today. Though, I would definitely recommend the new Autolux album, Transit Transit , along with some excellent releases from Best Coast , The Magic Numbers , Menomena , Young Galaxy , and Versus . [...]

This week's releases include new stuff from The Books (their first in about five years) and These United States . The former sets the tone of weird that I sampled from some of the albums this week. There may not be a lot from artists you've heard before, which makes the discovery process that much more enjoyable once you take a listen to everything out today. A few choices that I particularly dug include Lower Dens , Mountain Man , and Richard Youngs . If there's anything I [...]

It seems as though all of our past/current writers here at The Yellow Stereo have gotten married over the past few years. In 2007, Pablo tied the knot and in response I decided to hastily put together a mix of songs I would want to hear at a wedding. It proved more difficult than I imagined, as every other song I could think of was from Magnetic Fields. That list is here if you wanted to see how that turned out; and oddly enough, it's one of the first links that show up when [...]

Before heading out to Pioneer Park yesterday afternoon, I decided to give the new Cut Copy track a spin while driving around in the hot sun. It's a great summer jam to let loose with the windows down; cruising around to the thumping beats, exuberant hand claps, and joyful harmonies. It's actually a complete 180 compared to the unabashed dance mentality of 20082s In Ghost Colours . Still, the guys know how to craft a good pop song, and I welcome any kind of change the new album brings to [...]
