Earlier this year, Jamie xx stopped by Benji B's BBC Radio 1 show, "In The Mix," and churned out a pretty impressive, albeit brief, mix that you can still check out here . The London producer, who has worked with the likes of Adele and Gil Scott-Heron , wasn't done with BBC Radio 1 just yet. Jamie went back to the studio recently to put together a killer Essential Mix that clocks in at nearly two hours (!). It seamlessly weaves in and out of tracks from his own catalog, James Blake, Wiley, Fantastic [...]

I tried to get this online yesterday when it dropped but ran out of time before my gig, but today is the perfect day to sit back and enjoy the new Essential Mix from Jamie XX . Jamie has quickly established himself as one of the best producer/DJs at the moment coming out of his band The XX and smashing the game. Getting the chance to create a mix for the legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential mix series would be and huge thing [...]

If it seems like we have been getting a lot of DJ mixes this week, well, it is because we have (check out James Murphy's and Four Tet's ). Joining the club is Jamie XX, who offers this two-hour mix for BBC Radio 1. We also have the full tracklist below the stream. Enjoy. At 3am yesterday morning (don't panic, the mix is usually pre-recorded in the studio at a decent hour) Jamie xx took to the Radio 1 Essential Mix decks for 2-hours of non-stop electronic music that let's face it, Radio 1 wouldn't normally choose to play. There's some great material here from James Blake, Aardvarck, Pangaea and of course Jamie's own reworking of Radiohead's 'Bloom' and Gil Scott Heron's 'I’ll Take Care of U'. Broadcast on BBC Radio 1, 27th August 2011. [...]

After releasing the wildly successful single "Far Nearer" and his Gil Scott Heron remix project I'm New Here earlier this year, it's already been a pretty great year for Jamie XX's solo career, which sees him stepping away from his main outfit The XX to pursue garage and dubstep-inspired electronic music. He's already recorded two excellent DJ mixes for the BBC this year as well (for Benji B and Radio 6), but this weekend the spotlight is on his 2 hour long Essential Mix, a series which has played host to a number of highly influential producers over [...]

Who needs words when you can listen to two hours of perfection? Jamie xx Essential Mix by Young Turks
A regular feature in which our writers and photographers share their favourite tracks. Here's our pick of summer tunes. John Talabot featuring Glasser - 'Families' (chosen by Daniel Harrison) In a perfect world, this would be the soundtrack to summer 2011, and not M****n 5 or whatever muck is infecting the airwaves. Talabot is a publicity-shy producer from Barcelona that has released a string of superb 123s and remixes over the last couple of years. He collaborates regularly with fellow locals Delorean (who have themselves proven to be adept at capturing blissful Balearic vibes), [...]
It's been about four months since we previously heard from U.K.-based psych-beat producer Bullion. Back then, he was pushing his latest effort, You Drive Me To Plastic , which he and his label, Young Turks, are still calling a non-LP. The thing is, the so-called non-album was never released in the U.S., for reasons I'm not terribly sure. But after they saw the reaction it got overseas -- it quickly sold out -- along with the fact weirdo-beat stuff is doing well here, Young Turks decided it was time to drop You Drive Me [...]

Yesterday we woke up to the heartbreaking news that PIAS’ London warehouse had been completely burnt down in a wave of wanton, vitriolic rioting that was completely lacking any legitimate political motive. Whilst the wider implications of this thoughtless and respectless behaviour is a problem probably best left to our inept politicians, it has become clear that many of the independent labels that we love are now under severe financial pressure, having had some or all of their physical stock destroyed. Unfortunately for these companies, being insured is not enough. First of all, insurance companies are bastards. That [...]

With a recent debut album out on Young Turks, SBTRKT is riding the Internet buzzwaves right now (you probably know his name if you frequent the blogosphere, even if you can't quite remember the sequence of the letters). Yesterday he released this live track, Up & Down , featuring Sampha , which combines soulful vocals that behave more like an instrument than a lyrical or narrative device and minimal instrumentals building up in the background to supplement Sampha's voice as the pace picks up throughout the song. At first, I was a bit ambivalent about the [...]

SGTMT

Tweet At SGTMT Towers we know we really like a record or an artist when it’s a struggle to avoid hyperbole. Hyperbole like this: SBTRKT is our new favorite artist by a country mile, the most original producer in the UK across a number of genres, and his eponymous LP should win the Mercury Music Prize hands down, but for the inconvenient snag of a lack of nomination (due to its release coming too late we assume and hope). I don't know, maybe [...]

El Guincho - Ghetto Facil ( buy ) So it's hot today, it's Do-The-Right-Thing -hot. This will be perfect even in your air-conditioned dungeon. Listen after the jump. "Ghetto Facil" comes from El Guincho's Pop Negro .

SBTRKT’s album is a rich, eclectic piece of music- that just missed out on a 2011 Mercury Prize Nomination. A damn good debut

Unfortunately this musical month was almost overshadowed by an unrelated event in which the often immoral British public expressed their extreme moral disgust at the actions of a few of their immoral members. Days were spent wondering whether it was more important that Rebekah Brooks looks like a media-mogul version of The Simpson’s Sideshow Bob or that she may have been editor of some newspaper at around the time that the whole voicemail listening thing happened. Just incase anyone was thinking of hacking it, you can listen to my voicemail anytime. It’s just my Mum asking where I am constantly. [...]

The UK has always been ground zero for avant garde underground music. It was true with rock, and it's true with EDM. Today, I bring you the eccentric act known only as SBTRKT . This anonymous producer, based out of London, takes the rather Daft Punk -esque approach of always performing behind a mask. SBTRKT's music is melodic and well-arranged; synth-heavy glitch hop dipped and rolled in bass and coated with an indie hard candy shell. It's exactly this kind of constant innovation that feeds the insatiable appetite that is the EDM fan's hunger for new, [...]
