Sharon Van Etten is a New Jersey native who is currently based in Brooklyn and she's just released her third album, called Tramp . She's another artist I heard on the radio recently, and it was actually the first I'd heard of her at all. A little bit of time on the internet told me she's been making good music for a good few years (her first album came out in 2009). Of great interest to me was the fact that on her latest LP she's worked with members of The Walkmen, The National and Beirut. [...]

It's that time again, friends, time to gather around the table and share our thoughts on certain special albums. The subject this time is Sharon Van Etten -the woman, the myth, the legend. Alright, there's nothing really mythical about her but she is a legendary woman, and her newest album, Tramp , is released and ready for listening and debate. We have all eight of our writers contributing their thoughts here. Dig in, explore our opinions, and share your own in the comments! Sharon Van Etten / Serpents [...]

Words and photos by Brendan My feelings about this show have fluctuated over the last week and a half. I was excited to go, despite not really knowing Beirut 's music that well, but then it was so crowded at the show, I couldn't enjoy myself. I left disappointed, more so with my inability to even understand why I didn't enjoy myself than with the performance itself. Then I got caught up in the end-of-semester grading whirlwind for a week and pretty much forgot about it until now. How have my feelings evolved? [...]

Clássicos como Elephant Gun , Postcards from Italy , A Sunday Smile [...]

Words by Jim I could probably hype this show enough with the following sentence "Beirut is coming to town this weekend" and call it a night. That's all the preview this town needs. Seriously. The weekend appearance of Beirut is totally sold out, which is awesome, but the best part is they sold out TWO SHOWS BACK TO BACK. It's not often that happens no matter how big the band is. I can't remember (ever) an indie band playing back to back shows in Pittsburgh, let alone, selling them out. Very exciting. [...]

mp3: Sharon Van Etten - Serpents The lovely and amazing Sharon Van Etten returns this February with the new LP Tramp , marking her debut with Jagjaguwar . Check out the new track "Serpents", which features members of The National, Wye Oak, The Walkmen, and Doveman. She definitely keeps good company these days, as the album also includes collaborations with Zach Condon (of Beirut) and Julianna Barwick. We cannot wait for this album! [Via P4K ].

Sharon Van Etten's follow-up to 2010's Epic — her highly anticipated first release via her new label , Jagjaguwar Records — now has a release date (February 7), title, tracklist, and epic group of indie collaborators. As it turns out, the 12-track LP, Tramp , was not only recorded with the National's Aaron Dessner, but also features guest spots by the likes of Zach Condon, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Matt Barrick of the Walkmen, Doveman, and Julianna Barwick. Today's press release notes: The shimmering sound of Tramp [...]

Brooklyn singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten 's 2010 album, Epic , was just that: a critically-lauded affair of earnest folk rock. On February 7th, 2012, Jagjaguwar will release her follow-up, Tramp , which itself is going to be fairly epic thanks to its all-star lineup of indie rock collaborators. Spanning 12 tracks, the album features contributions from Beirut's Zach Condon, Julianna Barwick, Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner, The Walkmen's Matt Barrick, and Doveman's Thomas Bartlett. What's more, The National's Aaron Dresner offered [...]

I was pretty interested when Pictureplane tweeted recently about a 2004 collaboration he did with Zach Condon (aka Beirut). I at first thought it was some sort of joke since I never envisioned those two together, but then I gave it a listen and it was actually kind of a rad song, and a real one at that. Really dig both of these artists for completely different reasons, so it's great to see them mesh in a nice way like this. And Detroiters, the good news is that we all get the chance to see Beirut live [...]

Beirut stopped by New York radio station WFUV 90.7 recently amid their ongoing U.S. tour in promotion of The Rip Tide . The full intimate set — comprised entirely of cuts from the new LP — was filmed by The Alternate Side , complete with a pair of excellent takes on personal favorites "East Harlem" and "Goshen," as well as their latest single , "Santa Fe," and album closer "Port of Call." Enjoy the next best thing to seeing Zach Condon and friends perform live with all 4 multi-camera shot videos [...]

Género: Contemporary Folk, Indie Folk, Chamber Pop, Synth Pop, Indie Pop.

Beirut - "Santa Fe" (Official Video) Zach Condon's tribute to his southwestern hometown now has a bittersweet official clip, in which a man loses his wife to illness before burning the medical bills, spending a day at the beach with her apparition, and becoming a baptism purse-snatcher (via The Guardian ). Pompeii - Out Now Be it a response to the sell-out shows, the large-scale support slots or the general pattern of settling down (revealed in an interview with The Quietus' Hazel Sheffield ), Zach Condon has certainly gone out to make his most simple, most refined album to date. It strikes you as quite peculiar; that this didn't exist in Beirut's back catalogue already. Every track borrows from an album of old - merely simplifying previous formula and relying on good hooks and striking choruses rather [...]

Zach Condon has really done it this time. While I've often heard that phrase directed at me for all the wrong reasons, with Beirut, it can only be a good thing. The new album The Rip Tide is an album that eschews a whole lot of conventions. It has nine songs and clocks in at just over half an hour (an EP to a lot of artists); his genre-defying is unabated; and his song writing is unerringly good. The album is introduced by an accordion playing a charming minor melody before the [...]
