Sunny dream pop duo, Kisses, delivers a swoon worthy follow-up album just in time for summer.
The Hardest Part? It's not so much the accruing fans in the first place, as much as it is perpetuating the intrigue with a second, third, fourth, or if you're particularly fortunate fifth album. The www. has treated Los Angelino duo Kisses nothing if not affectionately since the release of their adorable, if mildly chintzy début endeavour, The Heart of the Nightlife , and mercifully for the couple comprising part-time fashion copywriter Zinzi Edmundson and ambidextrous multi-instrumentalist Jesse Kivel, the response they've been picking up to pieces previously dropped from this, their second, has been pretty propitious [...]

As much as I love big, immediate hooks, some of the best songs unfold their goodness slowly and almost unexpectedly. Such is the case with "Air Conditioning," the latest single from West Coast indie pop band Kisses . This third release off the group's wonderful new album Kids in LA - which channels, variously, Roxy Music, Pet Shop Boys and David Byrne - is our favorite song on the entire LP. Stream it below and prepare to dive into a lush and alluring sonic landscape, guided by swirling pied-piper synths and gauzy, haunting [...]
Bit by bit; piece by piece; blog post by blog post, we're getting a pretty transparent picturing of Kisses' unimpeachably sprightly sophomore recording, Kids in LA . First came The Hardest Part ; then Huddle and now, as the anticipation hots up over their imminently Cascine-released endeavours, the duo comprising Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson turn us onto Air Conditioning. Perhaps the most progressive of the three unveiled thus far, there's an icy, unmistakably '80s electropop aesthetic palpitating away at its core as Kivel impersonates an unprecedentedly jovial Oliver Sim atop a glacial backdrop composed of [...]
When contemplating quintessential pop compositions of any which era inspired by American football, I draw that same blank when asked of the rules to govern the so-called sport . Thus rather more self-explanatorily involving therefore is the subtle, '80s-flecked genius of Californian duo Kisses . We fell for 'em all over again as they announced news of a coming together with steely electro-pop mainstay Cascine that already felt years overdue, and simultaneously drew back the curtain on forthcoming sophomore Kids in LA as they lofted on over the breezy easiness of The Hardest Part . And [...]

The evolution of Kisses ' elegant tropical disco sound continues on their stellar new single "The Hardest Part." The LA duo made its name with endearing, lo-fi bedroom Balearica crafted from DIY drum machine, synth and guitar parts. More recently, we've seen them fleshing out that initial vision, but not obscuring it, with sharper production and more nuanced songwriting. On "The Hardest Part," our first taste of the band's impending second LP, Kisses depart somewhat from their natural beach habitat and plunge into a Brixton basement, exploring the vaguely macabre sound palette of 1980s British synthpop (Pet [...]
With a penchant for glittery nightlife and a proclivity for that most ebullient of electropop, Cali pairing Kisses couldn't be better suited to those more stark and remarkable parts of '80s-indebted synthetics. It therefore all seems pretty suitable that Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson should draft in Saint Etienne stalwarts Pete Wiggs and Tim Laracombe for what is, platitudinously speaking, the so-called difficult second album . Entitled Kids In LA , it's anticipated mid-May and, again exceedingly aptly, is to be outed via steel-smooth imprint Cascine though to revert to that which we've at our mercy, The [...]

Body Language, Belle & Sebastian, Poolside, Chairlift, the Avalanches, Camera Obscura, Yeasayer, Tanlines. If enjoy any of these bands, you may like Kisses . The LA-based duo, consisting of Princeton 's Jesse Kivel and fashion blogger Zinzi Edmundson, makes tuneful tropical indie rock that’s at once bubbly and plaintive. Kisses’ new single “Funny Heartbeat” realizes a lot of the potential shown by their 2010 debut album, Heart of the Nightlife . Like the songs on that album, “Funny Heartbeat” has a gentle, romantic sensibility that recalls 1970s French pop and an [...]

In 2010, the boy/girl-friend duo of Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson recorded one of the most underrated releases of the past few years. Their airy, nu disco record The Heart of The Nightlife took its name to heart as a euphoric soundtrack of dancing the night away. Since then, Kisses has remained largely silent, as Kivel released a new album earlier this year with his main project Princeton . The wait, thankfully, is now over as the two released a new single entitled “ Funny Heartbeat ” yesterday. Continuing on their first release, the song [...]

Remember Kisses ? That charming, if mildly chintzy Cali pairing of Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson who set these sorts of intangible entities aglow with their début, The Heart of the Nightlife ? Well, after what's felt like aeons – and indeed has been upon the blogosphere (scarily, the LP was released almost two years ago already) they're back with Funny Heartbeat. And it sounds as though they've been smooching with Two Door Cinema Club's Alex Trimble in the interim: built around the usual array of machined rhythmic syntheses and oceanspray-refreshing bursts of guitar evocative of both Heaven [...]

I wasn't expecting to get an email from Kisses ' PR people. Considering they were kind of mentioned in music singles chart #29 . Not to be confused with Montreal "Silly Kissers". Kisses is a LA-based, pop-electro-disco flavored consisting of Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson. They will drop their album "The Heart Of The Nightlife" on March 1st. Here is a blurb about Kisses. The Heart of the Nightlife’s nine stunning compositions each exhibits a refined pop sensibility evocative of Arthur Russell's later-period romantic works. [...]

Yonks and yonks ago we burnt our tongues on the kindling charm of Kisses . Since then they've released The Heart Of The Nightlife to reviews as glistening as chlorinated sunset-drenched infinity abysses, and the duo's eponymous track Kisses can be fully exploited below. Well and truly beyond retro, it recalls the frigid folly of Lanzarote infused with drum machine metronomy. Kisses- Kisses by Darling Department Kisses' Myspace .

You'll likely not go for long without reading a feature of Kisses without them being compared to Jens Lekman. It's true, singer Jesse Kivel does sound similar to Jens Lekman, but not in the same sense as Owl City sound like Postal Service. Jesse doesn't comprise Kisses as a whole (he's joined by Zinzi Edmundson), so really it's only his voice and not so much the band's sound that are comparable. It's yet another summer-sounding onslaught with tight hand-clapped beats backed by ethereal synths and waves of background sounds that only help to enhance that feeling of needing to be outside [...]

Hailing from L.A couple Jesse Kivel & Zinzi Edmundson first arrived on the scene early in 2010 with the summer anthem that is ''Bermuda'' . A deligthful mix of melodic-synth-pop that got us wanting to hear more. Bermuda by Kisses Currently recording and working on other projects such as Jesse's band Princeton , we asked Zinzi a few questions to help us get to know Kisses a little better. Have a read.... (One For The People) First off, hows [...]
