Your Best of 2012 Lists?

So who's made a Best of 2012 list? What are your picks? How are you organizing the lists---do you rank them? Do you divide by genre? How many to include in each list? How much time do you spend drafting the list? Do you review only the stuff you listened to throughout the year, or do you review other peoples' lists before you finalize? Do you make an effort to provide download links, even if you didn't previously own the song?

I spend way too much time on this every year, which is why my list isn't done yet. I divide the lists by genre, and then I rank them. I usually do two lists for each genre, the top ten and 11-20. I used to attempt to be comprehensive and review everything that came out that year, but now I'm trying to stick to just the stuff from 2012 that I listened to, just to get it done in a timely fashion.

So far, I've posted the Top 20 indie rock songs of 2012 (11-2) and the Top 20 dance songs of 2012 (11-20).

So i should probably introduce myself.

I’m the founder of Dance Yrself Clean, a recently born indie and alternative music blog, but in general we usually just post about music were in love with at the time of posting. I'm in love with music blogging and i would be more than happy if i could just sit in my room blogging all day and night, unfortunately my social life and university crap keep getting in the way.

It would be really swell if i could get some feedback and advice on the layout and design of my blog child www.danceyrselfclean.com
This is my first ever attempt at blogging and setting up my own website so there’s bound to be mistakes all over the shop, but hopefully i can get them ironed out as i learn more coding and such.

Constructive criticism very much appreciated.

Indie Shuffle v3.0

Just launched a new redesign over at Indie Shuffle! This one took us quite a few months, but has some necessary improvements:

-- Moved the playlist up top

--> By default, is minimized, with option to expand

-- Added some download buttons

--> Mostly linking to iTunes for now, but hope to fill with links to blogs that are hosting mp3s (not hotlinking -- linking to the actual post!)

-- Much more genre-centric navigation

--> Includes sub-genres, based on Wordpress tags

If you get a chance, would love to know your general opinion!

And please let us know if you'd like to be included in our new blogroll as well!

Slowest Traffic Days

My slowest traffic days are Saturday and Sunday when we're not posting anything new on our blog. Does anyone else take off the weekends? What ways do you keep the blog coming to a halt in terms of visits, or are you even concerned with it?

I usually use the weekends to write my reviews, catch up on PR emails, and get news scheduled to post during the week.

Muruch's Classic Albums Appreciation Club

Since a few of you requested I keep posting about this here, I made a new category so we won't clutter up the YayBlog! thread.

For those that missed it, I started a "Classic Albums Appreciation Club" on my site Muruch. At the beginning of every week, I select a classic album (from any decade) to listen to from beginning to end with no distractions. The next week, I post about the previous week's listening experience along with the new selection.

Yeah! So, in the last month maybe you noticed that you didn't received new post from My Blog Clichè and that's because my blog was removed for reasons really stupid, or maybe not. My later account on Google was vinculated with my Youtube profile and i put some videos from Glastonbury in the night and, when i wake up i was noticed that my Youtube account was suspended form some copyright thing of the bbc and of course, at the same time my blog was removed BUT! Now i'm back and let me tell you that i'mireally lucky cause i can recovered a lot of the information of the blog with the cachè so, for those whose wondering, what the hell happen with My Blog Clichè?, well, now you know it and you can check my new url that it's basically the same design but with more awesome new music!

New Tumblr Blog Idea/Design

Hi everyone,
I've always like tumblr and I hadn't used it or designed anything for it so I had a go at designing a very clean minimalist theme from scratch. It's a good way to procrastinate from revision for my exam on Wednesday. It's all just example posts at the moment, I might never use it. It was a spur of the moment thing. But I do love chilled/ambient music so I thought this clean mellow theme could reflect it.

Anyway, comments on the design and functionality. It's not completely done, I need to sort out the notes and date site aswell as the padding of the post text.

Please, let me know what y'all think!! I'm trying to get into writing about something other than just music songs and trying to gain some credentials in UX Design. Hope you enjoy and, also, if you have any ideas on how to improve the front page, would love to hear it!

YouTube Account - Music Promotion

Hey everyone, so I created a YouTube account today. I know what most of you will say...it's been done a million times especially in the liquid drum and bass genre but i think it's a good way to expand my audience. I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts, complaints, queries on it. I find it quite fun for some reason, I suppose it's new, I'm just worried I will start to neglect my proper blog over time or music on both platforms will start to mirror each other. Does anyone else do this sort of promotion?

I have been blogging for about 6 months now and how the time has flown. MFM is my first blog and it's been hard work getting it the way I like it. Yet, doing it for 6 months I have never had any proper critique, maybe a 'ah nice layout' or 'I like the colours' from friends but nothing from anyone with any experience. The posts so far are pretty short but as I get more time I hope to write longer articles around similar themes to what's been posted. My previous experience of posting has been for a friends blog (http://notinabox.blogspot.com/) where I've been instructed to follow a set format of short, sharp posts, but with my own blog I'd like to get into a bit more detail of what I'm passionate about.

This blog could be a music diary or a personal radio show.. Tunes from every music era and style. Sounds that make my day and night.

Radio shows usually have a different theme for each day's program. I 've decided to go on as follows :
Mondays songs will be from 40s and before.
Tuesdays posts will concetrate in 50s era while Wednesdays posts in 60s.
Thursdays are going to pay tribute to 70s and Fridays will take hat off to 80s decade. Two decades, 90s and 00s will be presented at Saturdays and finally on Sundays we will focus on 2010 and 2011 songs."

New Indie Shuffle Design!

Consider this both a Yayblog! and a call for any feedback, but I wanted to do a little "blog promotion" for the fact that we just launched a pretty huge overhaul to Indie Shuffle! We've been working on this since October. Much of the changes are on the back-end, but there are also a lot of notable front-end changes.

Some of the cool changes are as follows:
Functionality:
— The site now is cross-browser compatible, working well in IE (lots of glitches before)
— The MP3 player now sports HTML5 support for iPhones, iPads and iPods
— When there are 10 seconds to go in an MP3 and the page is on the verge of changing, a little popup notification will inform you and allow you to avoid the page changing

Playlist:
— The black MP3 bar has been moved to the top of the page and joined with the playlist (whereas it was much like Hypem's)
— The playlist now shows at all times (whereas it needed to be clicked to appear)
— As you scroll, the playlist stays visible at the top of your page
— Overlay on first landing gives a bit of instruction as to how to use it...essentially a huge "play" button!
— Mouse-over of images shows you information about the post

Filters:
— Sidebar now includes a Most Popular/Discussed/Recent filter
— Homepage now includes a genres filter

Additional changes:
— New navigation bar
— New color schemes
— New social networking areas
— Tweet button!

Hi All-

So for the last four months I've been a lot more MIA (eating truffle fries) from Elbows as I've been working on designing a new SFCritic. Well--it's almost done (still have plugin, and edits to add) and I'd love your feedback. Please, I welcome any criticisms or thoughts...

I currently am aware that the design is not functioning properly in IE because there is a js error I dont know how to fix. Anyone knowledgeable of js, please holla at me!
