Any thoughts on why the new Modest Mouse is so bad? I for one blame the lack of hallucinogenics.

  2.
it's pure and utter shit. words cannot explain my disappointment. i knew it wouldnt be great, but i did not expect it to completely unlistenable. look no further than "spitting venom" to see isaac recycling classic lines and totally ruining them. god its just so bad. and what is with that stpid fake sounding flare of feedback near the beginning of "missed the boat," it's subtle, but it really pisses me off for some reason cause it's just dumb :( i'm so upset.

I haven't listened to it. I am listening to an old sonic youth album right now. that thing would be clobered then right next to sonic youth.

It seems there is a massive epidemic of "re-doing" old stuff right now. It's horrible. everybody doesn't even bother coming up with new idea.
  4.

Wow, you guys need a hug.

    Ditto what Ryan said.

  5.
i dont want a hug. i just want to go listen to long drive in blissful ignorance and pretend the new record never existed :'(

Matt Skat, you should review it.  Would be refreshing to see a negative opinion on an album of it's magnitude.

yeah matt, better bring tracks too.
  6.

MM is punishing you for stealing their record by making it crappy.

(I'm actually disappointed to hear you don't think it is up to snuff, but I'm also over-caffeinated to the point of smart-assness)

I am on first track, right out from Sonic Youth's Sonic Nurse (one album I consider classic, even tho' it wasn't SY's breakthrough album, but very well executed and I like how the album flow)

So if this MM album has consistent sonic end to end, I have to ask matt why he think this sucks.

okay I am up to track No.9 It starts to get tedious and all songs sounding the same. (sort of like listening to parking lot soundtrack. ...I am bopping my head but not feeling a thing)

I am fast forwarding this thing. I am loosing patient.

-invisible (lead track. It's pretty good. I like the energy. but it also sums up the next 7 tracks)
-We've got everything (probably the only one I like)
-Dashboard ( radio friendly. I am warm with it)

verdict: It's Sony doing Franz Ferdinand clone all the way. I don't feel the album at all. It's a well executed prefab clone, one after another. It definitely doesn't have last album oddly compelling bop.

On p4k scale, I give it 7.4 (buy it if you have spare money and want some quick fun, but this album doesn't belong in MM repretoire. It's a "product".)

On MdM scale. *yawn* It might get posted on very very slow day....
  9.
I wasn't too high on Dashboard when I first heard it but it has grown on me....I'm thinking the rest of the disc will probably have the same effect.
  10.
if i love "dashboard" will i like this?
  11.
"We've Got Everything" is the only song I've really enjoyed. "Dashboard" is ok.

Really it sounds like the songs destined for singlehood took the bungled-Television idea from GNFPWLBN and the rest of the album is just directionless, bland and terrible.

"directionless, bland and terrible" - like everything Johnny Marr has been associated with since Dusk. :(
  12.
Awwww... I kinda liked Boomslang. It wasn't anything life-changing, but it was entertaining for a while.
  13.
Don't you kids have JOBS!  I've gotta wait another two hours to try to listen to this :(
  14.
johnny is useless without steven morrissey, in my opinion.
  15.
isaac is useless with a postitive outlook on life, in my opinion.
  16.
jeremiah should just drop them and hurry up and finish that damn vells record, which will no doubt be a million times better than this crappy album.
  17.
    sorry im just so mad

hey, matt, what do you think about the new modest mouse album
  19.
Posted by: ryan name of sitehey, matt, what do you think about the new modest mouse album

    THAT'S what I was wondering.
  20.
well i think it's extremely boring. the melodies are decent enough, i guess, but when it's all said and done, there's not one song on it that makes me want to go back to it. even good news was a pretty decent record, they still had it, for the most part. oh, and where did isaac's voice go?
  21.

Matt, I know exactly what you're going through and all I can say is float on, my man, float on.

  24.
    but it's so hard
  25.
  26.
i will miss you guys :'(
  27.

let's honor the classic Mouse of yore, what are your favorite songs of theirs....

  28.
trailer trash, worms vs. birds, white lies yellow teeth, head south, sunspots in the house of the late scapegoat, whenever you breathe out, i breathe in, broke, a life of arctic sounds, cowboy dan, and teeth like god's shoeshine are my most favorite off the top of my head... teeth like god's shoeshine probably being my favorite of all time.
  29.
i love bankrupt on selling, it's all nice on ice, cowboy dan, a different city, baby blue sedan, broke, the stars are projectors, custom concern and so much beauty in dirt... to begin with.

being mediocre is one thing, but this album makes me want to throw up.

I still think "Dashboard" is a pretty great song but that is really the only track I can listen to all the way through.

someone tell me in a week if it actually grows on them. I can't be bothered.
  33.
I'm not hearing Franz Ferdinand like you guys, anyway.

And on my first listen, I really like it..

for a number of reasons, i'm sworn not to never criticize Isaac's choices.  i'll only say, having not heard it yet, that people grow and change direction as artists and not everyone will be satisfied with their choices.  if they do the same thing, people criticize them for being the same-old same-old.  if they change, suddenly they're "sell-outs" or they alienate their fans.  meanwhile, thousands of people are stealing their hard work in order to have the chance to be the first to tell them they're boring or they're a sell-out.

    artists can't win.
  34.
the kneejerk haterade about this record frustrates me.  it only leaked a matter of hours ago!  it's definitely the most polished album they've yet released (Marr's instantly recognizable guitar tone being largely responsible for that), but i suppose that's never something i use against a band.  nor for Brock's changed timbre, which happens when you start piling on some years.  you can't sound like a strangled hipster auctioneer forever!  i sign on with loudersoft's sympathetic approach toward the band themselves---fans and critics tend to leave absolutely no room for the type of maturation that comes with age, not nec. with releasing an OMG amazing record.

well it would be exciting and original if they did it 4 years ago before everybody else. By now, it's... yet another "that" sounding guitar.

instrument wise, this album isn't even as adventurous as previous one. (no ripping sax, no kling-klang of unknown percussian, etc)

I really think, it's Sony exec beating them over their head to come up with Franz Ferdinand. (please don't call me on that by asking or a list. I already erase this album from my HD, and don't plan to hear it again.)

I haven't heard the album since I don't subscribe to leaks off p2p networks.  I will say the little I heard off the Modest Mouse website sounded good.  I am looking forward to buying the CD when it comes out just because I have a lot of respect for Mr. Brock and Mr. Marr.
