Turns out another person I thought I knew uses their middle name as a last name for blogging purposes.  Anyone want to fess up to the practice or any other anonymizing tactics that keep present/future employers (or R!@@, right, sqashed) unawares?

I started with the same kind of paranoia, so I went by H-Bomb, but then I realized that a- I want credit for my work, and b- My name is so generic it doesn't really matter.  So now, right at the top of my blog it says, "Name: Harry Smith".  Since I've started thabombshelter, I've been signing up for forums and stuff with Harry_ThaBombShelter as a way to both plug  my site and use my real first name. :)

Yeah, my name isn't that generic, so I wish I had given it some thought (especially since my middle name -- Thomas -- is a reasonable sounding last name).  My current employers seem to know and seem not so interested in making a big deal of it, but future employers might wonder if it's the same Greg Wind.  I suppose I can always say no if, for example, they care highly about DRM.  But like you, I want people to know it's me, even if that means suffering a bit at the hands of people I probably wouldn't like anyway.

Also, sorry about your Buckeyes.  Next year the Big Ten will play games after Thanksgiving and I think it will make a big difference.

You mean I'm supposed to keep this a secret from my boss?!?  Damn.  I hope they aren't monitoring my computer use at work!

Don't believe it.  His name is Carl (which is close to Earl).

I don't mind other bloggers, artists, or industry types knowing my name, but I've tried to keep the blog itself anonymous for that very reason.

When my employers find out my blog is really a front for my pyramid scheme, I guess it'll be a problem that my name isn't that hard to figure out. And that there aren't a million people with my name to be my scapegoat.

I was like Harry and I started out with using LovelyBelle because my blog used to be titled "Belle De Jour" after the famous film by Luis Bunuel. But then when I switched my blog to an mp3 blog I wanted credit for my work as well so I switched it to my first and middle name, Rachel Lynn now I could give two shits and I just go by my first and last name Rachel Freistat because that is what my domain Untitled Records is registered with and plus now that I am 26 having some sort of code name is just kind of pointless to me.

Yeah really, if you google Harry Smith, 4,820,000 pages.  I'm pretty confident that anyone who had illicit reasons for googling me would come up empty handed.  Although, here is a site I use at work a lot, www.pipl.com it narrows the scope quite a bit :-p
