audiodrunk's baseball post got me thinking. NCAA Tournament brackets come out on Sunday I think. Anyone interested in getting a pool going, free or otherwise? I'd be happy to set it up, they're easy to run and sign up for on ESPN.com. Give a shout if you'd be willing to sign up, and suggestions as to some stakes perhaps since money would be a little hard to manage. Maybe a way to integrate it into participating sites even?
No I was going to set up a ESPN one for us. I've used them before and it's easy to use, they use a good scoring system, and I don't have any other reasons lol.
You're going to need to have an account of ESPN or the Go network I think, and then you're going to click the Create Entry link or whatever it is. I think your brackets - up to five of them - get automatically entered into the free ESPN tournament challenge, too. But, for this pool, we're going to just do one bracket per person.
When you name your bracket, use the name of your site. It'll keep it looking fancy, since it shows up as BurningOak, K. Jamison when you're looking at the standings. K. Jamison is my name.
In case the link above didn't automatically stick you in the group, here's that info:
Group: "Music Bloggers" Password: "thebeatles" all lower case
Can anyone think of some sort of fun stakes to use? Or should we just go with bragging rights on this forum for a year lol. I wasn't thinking money, just something creative. Example, everyone writes a (rather ridiculous sounding) post about how much they adore the winner. Am I the only one that would find that extremely funny?
Interesting, and I like the idea, but your link isn't going to the correct site. I'll probably work on something similar, and I'll be posting up some periodic results once it gets into swing.
I would like to see a "prize" for the person who finishes in last place. The last place finisher should have to write a serious piece on why Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird is the best song ever written. : )
i've already got my brackets in. and surprise! like past years, i didn't go with michigan state for every game up to the final (imagine the humiliation - i love MSU. i live near it. it's hometown pride baby! but i'm prediciting they'll bite it in the second round. if not, i'm screwed.)
we'll see what goes. i'm probably the only girl doing this, right?
KEEP ENTERING, we'd love more contestants. Also let's finalize some stakes for this badboy.
Current Ideas (Not Final): 1) Everyone writes a (rather ridiculous sounding) post about how much they adore the winner. 2) A "prize" for the person who finishes in last place. The last place finisher should have to write a serious piece on why Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird is the best song ever written. 3) Let's add some other things on. Who's Got Ideas?

Here's the icon I made up. It's admittedly not quite what I wanted but I think it will do the trick. The dimensions are W136 x H150. That should work for everyone, it's rather thin.
Here's the code you can use to put it on your page. You'll have to change all [tags] to arrows:">" or "<." The [center] tags are optional.
If this link doesn't work on your page or something let me know, we'll figure something out.
If you'd like you can also change that ESPN link to the info page I made on my site. I didn't like their automatically just in case anyone didn't want to. Here's that link:
You should also list the participating sites on that page; that way potential participants will know who is in, and also it could be a half decent source of traffic.
I'm just gonna update rankings on my sidebar once this begins. And Mike, this tournament determines the best college basketball team. Pick who you think will win each game in your bracket, and once the tournament begins on Thursday sit back and hope you guessed right. You get points for every win you predict, and in the end the person with the most points wins.
