Of a bloggie award. They sadly didn't win the best writing in a weblog award.
The other music blogs nominated also lost out. And Indie-Interviews lost out to. Damn shame - I thought YANPicasso was a shoe in for best teen blog. I'll have a go next year - I'll still be eligible!
No it's not working here I'm afraid. It was working until about 30 minutes ago when I read about your successful funding drive: congratulations on that!
Perhaps a pressing refresh a few dozen times will rectify the problem
not a single music blog won in any of the categories. lame.
really goes to show how much the vast majority of people don't give a damn about good music and thus wouldn't be inclined to vote for sites writing about it.
i kinda thought YANP, Chromewaves and StG would win for sure...even if Frank said he never wins these things. whatever.
It's really typical, only the most established, most known super blogs wins. I love Post Secret, but it's not even a new blog. Maybe next year they'll actually open a mp3 blog category...
there was a music blog category in 2004. I lost to Moby. Then 2005 it went entertainment and music was reasonable well represented (stereogum, LHB I think) and then in 06 is was all gossip.
I have been told there will be a music category again next year.
Am I the only one who draws a distinction between music and mp3?
you're not the only one frank. there's a distinction between music-themed blogs (as in blogs bands update or blogs that talk about music) and mp3 blogs (that are used to spread music to the masses) it's sad they both get lumped into one catagory and people reward those blogs that have no (or very little) MP3 content. it's a shame.
A shame? I don't consider myself an mp3 blog. I can go days without posting an mp3 and it's usually just in support of the writing. Granted, it's easier to say "listen to this" than try and articulate it in words, but that's what I prefer.
i know, but i'm also speaking for blogs that talk about music and get ignored over bands or artists that have their own blogs that barely talk about music and get more shine. i should have been a little bit clearer in that last statement. but it's the truth.
I would have forgotten about that thing if not for everyone in my personal life asking me every other hour if I'd won. Haha. It felt cool to even be nominated though, so no bother.
I was kinda mad that Sean didn't win though. I read more from StG than I download.
I personally would consider my site a music blog, but I tend to post a healthy amount of mp3's as far as a music blog would go.
What about things like Largehearted boy or LiveMusicBlog.com? They both seem to post things more about music news than songs, even though LHB often has torrent links and a handful of mp3 links.
as far as bands that have blogs ( and I don't lump in The Face Of Today, Tim ), they seem to be for the myspace crowd...
I like to make the distinction because I've been written up before as an "MP3 blog" and I feel that's misrepresentative. Like if people come to my site looking for MP3s, they'll be all "where are the MP3s? this site is lame" and then I've disappointed them and I am sad.
That's a shame with the blog awards, but I was sort of expecting PostSecret/BoingBoing to win almost every category anyway, so it's surprising there actually were *other* winners. :)
For one of the categories, the prize was "US$200 in graphic design services from thesuperheavy.com", which is amusing because $200 isn't really that much in graphic design services and those guys' site is uhhh... bad.
I first thought that someone ran into Sean at SXSW and mugged him, when I saw the topic. So it's good that we are talking about the Bloggies here.
Word, thesuperheavy.com is hideous! Actually, looking over the prizes there are a few weird/tacky sites donating stuff. Like, I doubt Postsecret needs BlogJet. Interesting.
Haha. Well, actually I don't drink. But I appreciate the offers! I should be taking a trip to NYC this summer (and maybe fall for CMJ), and will be attempting to meet up with everyone I can.
jeez rub it in lol. Not like drinking underage is hard in the states..... we just have little things like tickets that get in the way (not driving, just consumption lol)
Haha. Did you all know that deciding the drinking age is still up to the states? It's just that if they don't make it 21, then congress won't give them any money to fix their roads. How lame is that?
well, you give and take. we drink when we're barely in our twenties, we get better roads. funny how things work. though imagine if we were drinking at a younger age and the roads were atrocious. then we're screwed.
i know in michigan, you can start drivers' ed at fourteen years (and eight months) and then you get a permit until you're 16 (you can only drive with your parents until you get a license.)
if you're over 18, you can just take the road test and then get your license. i'd do it, but i have horrible panic attacks behind the wheel and i just rely on public transportation (my city has one of the best in the nation. it's a good good thing.)
