Another Hotlinking Question Please

I mainly use fileden etc for mp3 hosting like many penny pinching bloggers out there. Mp3 download sites have only recently started devouring my monthly bandwidth , I suppose i`ve been lucky so far. What`s the normal response you guys give those lazy b###ards stealing your space ? & what`s the easiest way to locate/stop these people.

Also my mp3 blog is sooooooo easy to find , we`re right at the bottom of `The Hype Machine` top blog list , the very bottom , you can`t get any lower

Go to self-hosting and modify your ht.access file so only you can link to your files. It won't stop Java applications, but it will deal with most hotlinking issues. I am not sure if it can be stopped without leaving fileden behind though.

There is a thread in here somewhere giving really precise instructions as to how to do this. I have done it myself and can testify that it works a treat. As I am considering, perhaps instead of directing them to your homepage you might want to direct them to a page that explains why they have arrived their and directs them to the search box to find the song came there for.
