YAYBLOG!
  • Madison phenom Sleeping in the Aviary are on a national tour.  I'd recommend checking them out if they're anywhere near you.
  • Day 2 of the Complete Elliott Smith Live Covers is up -- the Kinks. Tomorrow, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Check it out, dudes, lots of great performances.

  • i wrote a relatively long (for me) post on lucky soul's new record today. that album is probably my favorite of the year so far.
  • I like that "Don't leak albums" thing-y on your page, Matt.  I want something like that.

My co-blogger/daughter has a post today on one of our favorite MySpace discoveries, Desmond Reed.  He may be a bedroom musician, but he has a talent for facile, funny lyrics.  Some good melodies too.  His best one is a MySpace spoof called "Who I'd Like to Meet."  We didn't post it because it's actually his first song for sale on a comp album that I'm trying to get hold of as I write, because I love that song.
  • Yeah, I concur that Desmond is pretty cool. I wrote about him here last month.

I enjoyed reading your post, Charlie!  You captured Desmond's charm very well.

  • Hiya all,

We've just started a silly music forum that I hope some of you wonderful people would like to abuse on occasion. We = Liz from Roaringmachine, the blog that no one knows exists, and my boyfriend Simon, from Spoilt Victorian Child, the blog that everyone thought was dead. So, should be a cracking time! Please do drop in if you have the time, we'd be well made up.

Our linky: The David Gedge Fanciers Club

    Thanks loads,

    Liz x.
  • I don't really Yayblog much so you know this one's good...

I did a two-part interview with Greg Goldberg of The Ballet that I think turned out rather well. Even if you don't know The Ballet at all (and most people won't, since they only made 500 copies of their album), the interview is pretty funny/substantive and touches on some interesting topics: pornography, politics, online dating, queer theory, day jobs, protest music and of course everybody's favorite social theorist, Michel Foucault.

Plus, if you like stuff like The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian, Voxtrot, Magnetic Fields, etc., you should definitely check out the included MP3s, because The Ballet make some really terrific, lovely, sad-sweet indie-pop as well putting out my 12th favorite album of 2006.

  • My re-cap of SXSW 2007.

    cheers.
  • i think this has made it's way around, but The National have posted an mp3 from their album on their site:

  • I just posted some sweet photos from the Toots and the Maytals show last night.  If you don't know who Toots is, go look up Reggae in the dictionary, he's the guy who put it there.  Anyway, I'm pretty proud of the shots, let me know what you think.

Toots and the Maytals at Alrosa Villa (yes, THAT Alrosa Villa)

ps- Thanks to Frank and others that gave me the great tips on taking photos at shows, I use them every time I take my camera out and I couldn't get the shots I do without them.
  • YAYaggre-gator: Hype Machine in the Guardians Saturday supplement "The Guide"

    Hype Machine

(kyle - really rad as usual)
  • Adam, how cruel that Pussyhole is not the promo track...you gotta know those bloggerboyz are going to be compelled to put that one up! ;-)
  • pussyhole, of course, being a cover of the classic bob dylan song by the same name

the sheriff is an equal opportunity spanker....  it's been taken down from just about everywhere i can  see.

  • mike mineo from obscure sound, matt from ear farm and i were all featured on a new website/radio show called blogfresh radio. it's a cool concept--she looks for the music folks are blogging about and then interviews the bloggers to find out more about the bands/tracks she features. it was fun, too. : )
  • I just got done with an interview for blogfresh!  What band(s) did you talk about?
  • i talked about calvin harris, mike talked about jarvis cocker and matt talked about julius airwave. isn't alex the nicest person? she made it so easy. let us know when yours is up, ok? and who did you talk about?
  • as some of you probably know, the new full-length by The National entitled 'Boxer' has leaked.   we've decided not to use Web Sheriff but have posted an official promo mp3, "Fake Empire".

http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com/mp3/thenational_fakeempire.mp3  (and mp3 widely distributed about a week ago via the band's web site)
