Hmm, to be honest, I really like the look and overall layout. It's not as functional as elbo, hypem, or mog, but my guess is that it's fairly new. It has potential.

I have to wonder how they come up with their song chart (http://wearehunted.com/)... their artist chart (http://wearehunted.com/artists/1/) looks a lot like Hype's or Elbo.ws' but their song chart seems to be all over the place. Nice change, I suppose.

I think it's neat, but "chart" seems like a stretch. Today's #2 is C.R.E.A.M and, while I agree Wu-tang should be atop every chart, I don't see the reason for it being there. At best, I think it's a list of songs to pick through which, in itself, is fun to do.

ewww... not cool, it is really blatent too.

Hosting 297 tracks (99 * day, week, month) to support the front page wouldn't be too difficult either.
And not linking to the site is a slap in the face.

Some tracks are pulled from YouTube too, similar to http://songza.com/

There is more to music blogging than getting traffic from music trackers. Other than that, the site is a bit blunt with posting material from torrents and p2p but having Twitter as a source is pretty cool. I really like the layout of the site. It's focused on content and it doesn't look bad showing it. (at the quotation marks: I couldn't get a quote to work for the life of me)

 

Hmm, well you could always set up your own system to track the top songs and not necessarily steal other bloggers bandwidth. Sorry am I on some high horse? Just saying.



The layout is nice but come on, it's not hard to have a system to add the mp3s to your own server if you can aggregate the posts to begin with.

merzmars.. we definitely need to sort this out as a priority. We need to support everyone who supports us.

We didn't expect the response we got when we launched the site, so we have been caught a little of guard.
You can see that in the volatility of our chart as Brandon points out above.
There is a lot of new tech behind our site and we are working to bed it in.

the minute they host the mp3's on their servers they put a target on their back for the riaa. So don't hold your breath.

hey anthony ... glad you like the ui... the torrent and twitter tracking is being used in calculating the charts.. we are not surfacing it on the front end at the moment.. we probably can if people find it interesting..

They're getting a lot of love on twitter, apparently they're not just another penny ante aggregator riding hype/elbo.ws coat tails.

looks cool and is easy to use. its a bit like a free jukebox at the pub

The related artists list on our news pages is probably incorrectly labelled.

It would more better described as 'Artists most frequently mentioned in the same articles as this Artist'... but we figured 'Related Artists' was simpler.

In the example you gave, 'Kingsbury Manx' appears in articles that also mention 'Judas Priest'. Not as often as it appears in articles that also mention 'Vic Chestnut' or 'Megafun' which is why they appear higher in the list.

We are working on a better approach to related artists that we aim to release in the next few weeks. This approach uses collaborative filtering based on the types of artists people are listening to rather than those that bloggers write about.

Also as an update to my previous post, he is our current twitter chart, one of the sources we use to create the main chart on We Are Hunted.

How it Works

How it could be improved

The artwork for your brand could be improved greatly with your assistance.

We think the artist charts are reflecting well enough what you are writing about.

The singles chart could be greatly improved if you told us each week what you are really listening to.

We are working on widgets that publishers can add to their site to include the latest charts.

We could create a simple interface that you could log into at any time to update your chart.

Some of the data is a bit rough. It is an imperfect science but we are learning where the holes are.

I was aware of the problem importing your articles.
We were working on the problem for several weeks but we couldn't crack it.
We import over 100,000 feeds each day without error so this one had us a bit stumped.
Anyhow changes were made at our end and your feed started importing ok 3 days ago.

Despite the issues with my feed (until now!), the We Are Hunted guys are super nice and really professional about everything! Much appreciated!

The Twitter charts mostly seem to reflect artists who are in the NEWS (not necessarily with new music, and honestly I doubt in many cases being listened to). Queen, for instance, sorta "broke up" recently - hence their high placing. I am highly skeptical that people were listening to them a ton more in the past 30 days!

But it's really weird that Michael Jackson doesn't place - enough that I suspect there are omissions in the scraping software...

as my dad says, "i run a tight ship, not a shite-tip"

Yeah we are linking out to YouTube now for mainsteam tracks.
We are talking to streaming music services to work out the best way forward.

What has been surprising is that most people don't seem to care that they cannot play the tracks.
They are using WAH for music discovery and playing them using their player of choice.

We released remix and genre charts recently plus a few other tweaks.
On track to release our first product in the next month or so.
