Shameless Blog Promotion
  • Ok so I've recently switched my month old blog over to wordpress and was wondering if you guys could have a look and if you can think how to improve it.

I'd also be interested in some link exchanges if anyone's interested indiemusicfinds@googlemail.com
  • Post MP3s + bands not from 2004
  • ok thanks, i've just looked up how to post mp3's in wordpress so i'll be doing that in future.
  • I think there's a lot to be said for sifting through the 2000's highlighting important, interesting artists (just saw the Libertines in there!)- maybe mix it up with the new more frequently and, yes, mp3s definitely help!
  • yeah, i wrote mostly about recent artists towards the start of my blog, i'll start writing more about them again. thanks
  • ok so i've just worked out how to post mp3's, can you check it worked? http://indiemusicfinds.com

can you help with another thing too? do i have to upload these mp3's to my web server or is there a site that lets me store mp3's i can stream with the player i have on my site? because i'm sure it'll tear up my server allowance's because i'm on an economy plan.
  • sorry, don't worry about that last post. i'm using http://www.fileupyours.com incase anyone else needs the same thing.
  • I've had quite a bit of luck with Boxstr files getting aggregated properly.
  • yeah, i looked at boxstr yesterday but their site wasn't working, i've decided to just host them on my website server because I've got so much bandwidth i'm not using. fileupyours only gives 500mb a month bandwidth which just isn't enough.
  • indiemusicfinds...if you are worried about hosting issues, many promo companies and labels have hosted links for mp3s. All you need to do is repost in many cases. Labels and promo companies love this of course (as it shows up in google analytics and is trackable), but many bloggers prefer to rehost the files themselves to get hype machine rankings, etc. Whatevs.
  • wendy, i was always under the impression the pr folks preferred that we re-host so we don't snatch up all their bandwidth. have i been needlessly rehosting all these years? figures. haha.

I think one of  the benefits of someone hotlinking is the page rank value. I stopped caring about hotlinkers. Yes it happens and is annoying if they take up too  much bandwidth but you can always transfer it into traffic (when the link no longer works) or at least have  some domain name value .

To add into the discussion, hosting is a little better as you might be able to get traffic and you can keep track of who found a song on your website as you won't be able to trace an mp3 on a different domain.

  • I am always slightly happier when someone re-hosts the mp3 when they write about our bands, because it has more chance of showing up on the Hype front page, than if they just re-link to the same old file, which then won't turn up in the main feed.  I don't care that much though.
