  • Ok. So it feels odd to do this for myself, but the band was so cool to make time for me and really went out of their way to talk in-depth about their music and about bloggers and music journalism, after a pretty crazy day. So, here's an interview with Bad Veins that I guess turned out pretty good :)

    http://www.loveshackbaby.net/2009/09/23/bad-veins-comes-to-chicago-and-talks-about-writing-music-and-music-writing/
  • I second Tart's above yayblog. I'm not a Bad Veins fan, but Tart's interview is very well written and interesting.
  • I'm excited for the exclusive release of Classic US at the site (http://boppernation.com)

*(didn't mention this on site cuz he didn't want it mentioned but one of the two people in the group is Dan Diamond...the man who had the hit Champu back in the day (http://www.last.fm/music/Daniel+Diamond/_/Champu) its been awhile for him. Have a listen to see what he has been up to.
  • Aww, thanks :) xoxo
  • If Anthony really is only 23 I am going to punch him.

    Or, more likely, myself.

    Congratulations Anthony.
  • I haven't yet done a yayblog, but I am pretty proud of this one.

  • Hey comrades,

I had a proud yayblog moment when I completed 6 months in existence. Here is a Top 11 Songs List I did to commemorate the occasion.

  • Not to toot my own horn again here, but if any of you are interested in "world music", I wrote a piece on the subject for the great travel website that is Matador Network. Hope you enjoy it!

    http://matadornights.com/8-musicians-wh-will-make-you-rethink-world-music/
  • I hadn't seen Matador Nights before - great site (and article too obviously)
  • Congrats @anthony. Awesome article to read. Inspiration for us all.
  • The contributors on my site collaborated for a best-of-fall article: http://www.indieshuffle.com/?p=1724

We're going to do a part 2, so comment on the post if you feel one of your favorite albums is missing!
  • If anyone's interested in our latest Toad Session, it's here.  It's with a band called Honeytrap and there was lots of drinking involved.  By the end of the main video it's just bedlam, which is rather funny.

  • Way to go Kevin!!! :) xoxo
  • Brilliant mate, well done.

I'll be really interested to know what kind of increase in sales that might lead to, just by way of experiment.
  • Thanks Tart/Toad - we'll still popping the champers! Sales wise there was a slight bump but nothing to write home about. An album review might change that so I'll be saying my hail marys.
  • I've blown our load on yayblog time & time again over exclusive music releases..and i've learned that aint enough...but today I have something worth reading http://boppernation.com/views/al-technique-danr-interview/behind-the-scenes-djs-are-not-rockstars-w-al-technique/ (interview with alexander technique: founder of label 'DJs Are Not Rockstars', dj/producer/remixer/ what have you..also in Blogula (with Larry Tee) and Tropikill (with Kassiano).

I think you'll enjoy reading this interview..it is hilarious and his character is intact.& yes there is music too.
  • Hey all, long time no post. I did a nice interview with Owen of Final Fantasy:
    http://thetorturegarden.blogspot.com/2009/10/final-fantasy-interview.html
  • Good stuff Shane.  Where are you based these days?  Back in Ireland?
  • Yeah. It's a roundabout kinda story. We were working in the middle of Germany, and when I finally moved back to Berlin, I got a call asking me to come home, because my father is quite ill. So now, after all my gratefulness for not living in Ireland during its economic collapse, I'm trying to find a job in Dublin. Interesting times.
  • Myself and my pal Tim from the Daily Growl (amongst others) were nominated for Best Blog in the Record of the Day Awards.  I've no idea how prestigious this is, but it would be nice to win something at some point, and they do seem to have nominated actual blogs this time, unlike most awards which nominate Pitchfork and Mike fucking Skinner and the like.

So please vote for me (or Tim):

    http://www.recordoftheday.com/www/awards/index.php

Or for others, of course, if you're so inclined. But be aware I might go in a huff.
  • Well done Matt, well deserved! Do you have to register to see the nominees?
  • Yeah congrats to Matthew and Tim - well done. Really.

And to see the nominees you don't have to sign up for an account, but you do have to give your name, org, email - basically the same I suppose.
  • Obscure Sound recently underwent a visual overhaul... feel free to check it out and provide feedback.
while you're there check out the Afternoon Naps review. it's some pretty fun stuff.
  • DVR ALERT.

a film i produced called D tour is premiering tomorrow night (Tuesday, Nov 10) on PBS Independent Lens on over 250 affiliates across the United States.  it also goes up on Hulu this week (we think).

the film took over 3 years to make and follows my friend, Pat Spurgeon (who drums in Rogue Wave), as he struggles to find a new kidney but continues touring with the band, often doing dialysis in the Econoline.

with us on the precipice of healthcare reform, i think it's a pretty timely film in terms of putting a face on the core issues that somehow have got lost in all the politics.

lots more info is up on our site - http://www.dtourmovie.com
  • Wow, congratulations, Adam! That is, if congrats are appropriate for such a sad subject. I love the Independent Lens series.
  • As both my grandmother and my great aunt died of kidney failure (I drove both of them back and forth to dialysis for years), this sounds like a very worthy and timely subject matter. I'll definitely set the DVR for this one.
  • adam I'm def. checking this out, my kidneys failed 78% and I was very close to having to go on dialysis! I hope the film has a happy ending!
  • We don't to Yayblog or interviews very often, but since we done did one, let's go and do the other.... Massive interview with Accompanying mixtape with Veronica Charnley of Flotilla, an indie-prog band out of Montreal ---- > http://blog.tsururadio.com/2009/11/tsururadio-presents-interview-with.html

And now with the post width at 475 pixels instead of 425! WOOT!
  • "An Open Letter to Weezer:
Congratulations. You’ve done it again, you sneaky sons of bitches. What can I say? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me two more additional times and I take that as you feeling up my mother..."

Keep reading as we take the piss out of Weezer on Indie Shuffle
  • Quite the intro!
  • My brain is still overloaded from the local reviews I did this weekend. Probably of no interest to you folks, but I'm proud of them.

First, I did more research than I've ever done before to review WV Symphony's "Wonder of Love" concert feat. singer Audrey Babcock:
    http://www.muruch.com/2009/11/live-review-wv-symphony-presents-the-wonder-of-love.html

Then I wrote two separate reviews of the Mountain Stage concert feat. Vagabond Opera, Madison Violet, Eric Bibb, Brett Dennen, & Sister Hazel. The first was for the print & online editions of local newspaper The Charleston Gazette:

    http://wvgazette.com/News/200911150697

And the other was for my own site Muruch (which I'd promised Vagabond Opera before accepting the newspaper offer):

    http://www.muruch.com/2009/11/mountain-stage-vagabond-opera-madison-violet-eric-bibb-brett-dennen-sister-hazel.html

Both were rewarding experiences in different ways and some of the best live performances I've ever attended, but I'm totally exhausted now. :)

  • We started a new feature today that we're hoping to have bi-weekly (every 2 weeks, not twice a week) regarding the evolution of music (indie in particular) through the eyes of an experienced music writer, Abby (gotta leave her last name out for now per request). I'd like to get some comments flowing if you guys have similar experiences to share about the music nerds you came to be, so definitely tell your background! Feels weird to post here but thought it'd be appropriate - hopefully its unique from the normal blog stuff you get from us and I thought several of you might appreciate it. Or not. Thanks for the support though!
