There seems to be a conflict between my scrolling featured posts and my tabbed sidebar widget. When I removed the sidebar widget, featured posts started working again. It has to be an issue with 2.8, because I didn't change anything and it worked before upgrading.
Is anyone here on Dreamhost with the whole "one click upgrade"? If you did this let me know, as I am a little scared to click the "Upgrade to 2.8" for fear of all that is good and decent fails and fails horribly....
Currently still running 2.6, I assume I simply skip 2.7 and go right to 2.8? Thx.
I used the WP direct update, no problems. don't really see what the changes were (didn't read the release notes) though I do notice the template editor is fancier.
Well, I just tested it on my test site. Everything was fine, but the minute I opened up the editor, it fouled everything up. Something about the new system for handling the php files definitely doesn't like my theme.
Thanks everyone, I think I just needed you to tell me to do it and stop whining! I clicked upgrade in Dreamhost panel (as when clicking upgrade IN wordpress, it involved downloading the new WP and then uploading new files - there was not "automatic upgrade" that I could find...). It took about 30 seconds total and I am now 2.8 - just finding where everything is now!
I upgraded with only one major problem - it deleted my layout and the new version of Kubrick is even more complicated than the old one, so I gave up trying to recreate it. Stuck with another template for now.
The only other minor problem is the category widget went wonky, but that may be a browser issue for me. Otherwise, all the widgets seem fine.
Yeah, my issue is a layout one as well. I think the person that made my theme just needs to update it to make it compatible with 2.8. Unfortunately, they haven't responded to my queries :)
I did a test run on a test site which was tedious and caused great gnashing of teeth, but in the end all was fine and simply pushing the button worked!
If you're looking for a great template that's easy to customize try the one I'm using, you can change absolutely every part of it without writing code at all, it's completely user friendly.
I kinda like the Bella template I'm using now, just need to figure out how to add a header & fix the category dropdown menu (on my browser at least, it's too wide for the window - but the archives dropdown is fine). I'd like to make other changes, but I don't have time or knowledge to do much.
Well, there definitely is a conflict with 2.8. I downgraded back to 2.7 and everything is peachy. Guess I'll just wait and see if someone figures it out over at Wordpress.
They've already went to 2.8.1 I believe.... you should look into it.
I started a blog for my wife & I's creative endeavours at http://www.tsuruandthebride.com on WP 2.8 using that Tarski (sp?) template. So far, all good... Nice and clean template. WP is weird when you are so used to blogger, but it will be good to get used to it so when/if I need to move TSURURADIO to wordpress (where I back up my posts), I'll be ready.
It's fixed! Huzzah! Looks like the latest beta fixed the jquery issue which was causing all the hassle. So if anyone else is running into issues with tabbed widgets, you might try downloading 2.8.2
I lost all my text widgets on some upgrade or other, didn't even realize it (shows how much I read my own damn site) until Lee from Knox Rd. tried to contact me and couldn't find my email addy, doh! So, uh, yeah... back those puppies up, I had to rewrite my little disclaimer blurb again and it's not as cute as it used to be, alas :(
