Can we please talk about podcast hosting?
  • I've decided to do a variety podcast, music and whatever. I dunno. But I'm new to the technical aspects of this.

Should I just set up another wordpress install? Everyone complains about the plugins and it's making me scared, I don't want something that can break. If I go with a 3rd party, who should I use? Odeo?

    Thanks for the inputs.
  • I use Libsyn and friends of mine use Podbean, and so far no problems reported.

The problem with using your own hosting is that the files are massive and can eat bandwidth pretty fast if you get at all popular.  Then again, bandwidth allowances are going up all the time, so probably no big deal in the long run.
  • I use podbean for mine (http://ninebullets.podbean.com/) and use the embedded player on ninebullets

    no complaints.
  • i used podomatic for a while, but got sick of paying, i would recommend setting up a site and hosting the files on some free site to get the job done.

I got our mixes/podcasts hosted in a way you might like, might save you paying
  • Mixcloud are looking good at the moment.  They don't allow direct downloads, which is a massive nuisance, so you'll probably still need secondary hosting, but they are PRS registered, which at least is a step in the right direction of taking mp3 blogs and other amateur writers out of the position where we risk being shut down at any minute for destroying music.
  • I didn't know they are PRS registered - good to know!
