I am the Lucas from Team Clermont. Hell, I love plenty of "mainstream" indie stuff. I would put most of the bands I've been in firmly in that category. I'm a pop guy. But I also love a slab of hot experimental wax, even pop albums that do interesting stuff. Dave's comments about the Glow, pt. II are illustrative, though. I never think that any year is better or worse than others. Seriously, I know plenty of great records from every year and am always discovering stuff later in the game. That kind of talk rubs me the wrong way as someone who struggles to get "his" bands heard. I only have room in my life for 20 or so great records a year! I'm being facetious here, but it's sorta true.
Lucas, I admit I am guilty of not always reading all the press releases from Team Clermont, or listening to all of the mp3's. Are any of the bands you're promoting not "male, white, guitar-driven or indietronic"?
Hell no. Why do you think I'm such a hypocrite?! Seriously, it's a problem for booking bands, too, to work in the PR realm. There are just more of those types of bands for us. I try...I try really hard to bring out a diverse pallette of stuff, but you take a hit in consistency, you know? I'm not going to promote my bands in this forum, but we do a fair amount of experimental/fringe-y stuff and it gets very little play online. Same as it ever was, I guess.
Hey. When's the next time you'll be coming to Athens?
Lucas, I wasn't trying to call you out with that question. I knew the Untied States were one of the "experimental/fringe-y" bands that you've been promoting, I just wondered about some of the others.
Hey, I can be in Athens in 40 minutes. Buy me a beer and I'll be there. I'm drinking Terrapin Rye right now.
