I second Coeur de Pirate - wonderful.
Madeleine Peyroux sings a good bit in french, although is slightly more jazz/pop.
Yelle is great fench electro-pop - Ce Je and Je Veux Te Voir are both good tracks. -

like modern? the femmes de paris 3-disc comp is pretty amazing if you're looking for more 60s brigitte bardot-type stuff.

Francoiz Breut is good, as is Marianne Dissard, who sang with Calexico on The Ballad of Cable Hogue.

I was browsing random blog and see too many french retro, 60's rock, rare album, etc.
(actually, it's just this thread, moka declaration of 60's garage rock for this summer, and aquarium drunkard. ..
this summer hasn't been all that great for release....)
