Best Promoters?

    I could've sworn we had a thread like this before, but couldn't find it..

    There's plenty of complaining about terrible promoters on this board, but who are the good ones? Is there anyone whose emails you actually look forward to, or consistently pushes good new bands?

    Yeah it helps that this lot tend to cover the music I want to hear.

    But they also understand the ideas of highlighting a couple of mp3s from an album to sample before downlaoding the whole thing, getting mp3s cleared to post, offering buy/myspace/homepage/bandcamp/label links, and the relevant dates - so you have all the info in that first email and don't have to keep asking for stuff which can be frustrating when you are severely time limited.

    Cath, who used to be at Fat Cat and is now at Sainted PR, is excellent. She reads my blog and sends me personalised stuff that she thinks I'll like, and sometimes (like with Frightened Rabbit) is so on-the-ball that it's scary.

    Jeremy Maciak is good too.

    However I am so far behind in reading my submission emails that they must all be getting hacked off with me...

    Is it my impression, or do most labels now farm out their PR to these companies?


    Used to get great mailouts from (amongst others) Domino and V2 with my previous website but they haven't even answered me with our updated details for my new blog.


    In any case these days I prefer covering newer/far less well known bands.

    Plenty of labels still do it in house. Some do in-house and them outsource it as well which I find odd - I get the same promo from different people. Huh.

    I doubt there's a comprehensive list of them.

    Girlie Action, Tell All Your Friends, Big Hassle, Jeremy @ Vagrant, Indoor Recess. Those are a few key publicists you will want a relationship with. They are the ones I contact the most when I need to get on the press list for a gig, interview an artist, or check out an album before it's released.

    I'm pretty much in love with Lucius Yeo's current roster. 

    Sarah Hansson at Holographic People is definitely one to watch.  Just started her own label but has a lot of great clients as she used to run her own PR company.  Whose name of course I can't remember.  Point being though, she's super nice and really cares about her acts. 

    Penycate yes.

    Cascine does really good in-house PR.  Super streamlined, visually appealing, with just enough information but never overbearing.  And Sandra also works for Freeman PR, and she's a joy. 


    Those are mostly electronic aren't there? I'm pretty unimpressed by 'indie rock' PRs in general.  :/

    Chris with Big Hassle, Bekah with Sub Pop, Nick with Life or Death PR, Gloria with Force Field, Lindsey with Merge.  I always seem to get a tough time from Motormouth -- anyone else have that issue?
