The Great Escape
  • did anyone manage to go this year? any awesome highlights?

I got down for the last night and was completely blown away. I managed to get backstage and meet Slow Club and Sleigh Bells after they both put on on truly fantastic performances. Ridiculously good fun.

Anyone else got a story or new band to listen to?
  • i'm not particularly big on either of those bands, but i'm glad you enjoyed it.  i'm not familiar with The Great Escape.  i liked the movie starring Steve McQueen, though.

mostly, i just hate to see an elbo.ws thread about actual music go to waste, even though I don't know anything about this show.

in response to your question, a new band that i have been recommending to friends is an electronic-soul duo from Denmark called Quadron.

  • I tell myself every year that I will got to The Great Escape next year and then I always have a fucking exam the Monday after. Argghhh!

A lot of people have been talking about that Sleigh Bells set, which sounded awesome - quite jealous of you at that one.

As for new bands I'm loving...

Cults - all kinds of awesome - write up on the Walrus next week.
Feldberg - caught them a the Kitsune launch party a couple of weeks ago and were very impressive - I heard they did a great show at TGE as well.
  • Oh my fuck! Feldberg!! - their song "Dreamin" is on my mind constantly at the moment from kitsune mainson compilation 9 - its like a whole new sub genre of music. Indie-love along with the xx in places and moldy peaches.I have such an unhealthy obsession with that tune them at the mo.

Is the rest of their output good then?
  • Well they only played 5 or 6 tracks, but yeah - definitely a band to watch.
And they had one of their Dad's their managing/supporting them which was cute :)
  • Their?  Oh Timothy, Timothy, Timothy.
  • Feldberg are all over my ears right now but haven't gone that big on Hypem which is interesting, did anyone get the heads up on the new Made In Iceland compilation? Feldberg, Jonsi, Olafur Arnolds and about 15 others all pretty good.

Saw Peggy Sue last night, interview was going really well until the university Lacrosse pub crawl stumbled across us and complete chaos ensued, listening back to the audio is pretty funny! seriously good band though, the new stuff is so good.
  • Oh dear, the worst part is it took me a couple of reads to spot what the fuck I'd done wrong. Sigh.
I feel I should leave it for posterity now though...
  • Toad, Dude you remind me of that Catholic Nun (Sister Elizabeth) I had in my fifth grade typing class.  Any incorrectly spelled word got you five raps on the knuckles with a wooden ruler.  Needless to say, I had raw, bloody hands the whole year.  Ouch!
  • Dude, Tim, their is nothing wrong with you're post!
  • My typing teacher had black eyes, so he always looked like he'd been possessed or taken over by alien oil. I did anything I could to avoid looking into his beady eyes.
  • I too was taught by a Catholic nun, but it was handwriting class, not typing. (remember the handwriting paper with the dotted middle line?" All I remember about Sister Rita was her beard. Bless her soul.
^ I'm going to hell for that.
  • This is my handwriting at it's VERY BEST as I knew I would be scanning it:

But if you saw my notes from last night's vinyl ripping party of one, your Catholic nuns would be rolling in their graves.
  • I'll think I'll listen to that mixtape now.
  • I feel like im in a Death Cab song
