Wordpress Blog Stats Question
  • So on my wordpress blog stats, about 50% of my views are coming from referrals, 10% coming from google searches, and the other 40% are unaccounted for.

Where to those 40% come from? Direct views? Does that count RSS views?
  • You might try installing Google Analytics, it has much more detailed breakdowns of traffic sources.
  • I like Woopra, so far I think it's the most accurate and you can see real-time stats about all the people on it, where they are from, where they came from, what they are clicking on what they are using to get there etcc.. sorta stalkerish but addictive.
  • Tried Google Analytics, but didn't get how to insert the tracking code, it says before the /head tag, but I don't have the CSS upgrade, so don't have any of that.

Does it work if you just put it in the body of a post until it picks it up and then delete it?
  • No, it definitely needs to be in the main body/header. I don't think you can install it on a post by post basis.
  • Google analytics doesnt work with wordpress.com (http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/)

there is software out there which just use an HTML code and which you can stick in your sidebar but I've ever got round to testing them out. If you do then let me know how they go!
  • Oh okay, I wasn't clear that we were talking about Wordpress.com. I usually assume references to Wordpress are to the self-hosted version. My fault.
  • I used Clicky for awhile since it was integrated in my Tumblr theme. All I had to do was insert a code into my theme setup. Not sure about using it with Wordpress.com? It seemed pretty decent though. But, if memory serves me right, I think after 30 days I had to pay to continue using it. Worth checking out though.
  • Even if you have the CSS upgrade thing for wordpress.com you still can't put the google analytics thing in.
