Wordpress stats: Views from Facebook

    Is there anyway with Wordpress to see where the views from Facebook came from, like you can with Twitter? I've gotten a lot of views in the last day or two from Facebook, so someone big must have linked my blog or something, but all it says is Facebook.com. Without Google Analytics (which doesn't work for Wordpress.com) is there any way of knowing?

    You can't tell from Google Analytics either as far as I can work out. We get 3-5% of our traffic from Facebook, but due to Facebook's warning page before you get to any exterior site all the referrals appear to come from http://facebook.com/l.php

    You used to be able to see which profiles/pages/etc your traffic came from, but I haven't found a way for the last year or more. If you find a way please share the wealth!

    BTW - in your case it's likely that both Erol Alkan and Tiga shared your link on Facebook the same time they did on Twitter...

    It used to be more specific about where on facebook, but that led to loads of different facebook URLs coming up in the referral section. Most most of which were just that midway site that facebook loads between itself and the link you are clicking.

    Im wondering if one of these 2 stat providers are worth it, but they mean having a big old counter on your site which Im not too keen on and one of them reserves the right to advertise which i'm even less keen on.

    Incidentally while I've got you on wp.com referrers, how much traffic do you get from WP tags? I never bother with them but maybe im missing a trick

    Yeah, I had a look and they came from linked Twitter/Facebook accounts, but as a general thing, it's a bit annoying not knowing where the Facebook views come from.

    Wordpress tags, maybe 1% of traffic? I haven't thought much about tags, I do them assuming that they'll help with SEO, but I've never checked if they do or not...

    tags are to help with SEO not for the wordpress search engine. Google is most of my traffic. As for the facebook referral, yah even on Woopra when you can see exactly where they came from I end up getting the halfway loading link so you can't see who exactly linked you there. So far Woopra's been my fav stat counter because you can download the little desktop app and stalk people the second they are on your blog and know where they came from, what country they live in..... haha i sound like a stalker
