I want to start up a weekly playlist, where a number of blogs all throw in one song. There does not need to be any musical theme, just a song you discovered the week before or one from long ago that you've been lovin all week.
Ideally, there would be 10-15 other blogs involved so that the playlist can have 5-10 songs every week. I realize that not eveyone will have time/commitment to throw in their song every week. I would happily be proved wrong on that one though. It would be great if everyone wrote a blurb on their song, too.
I think this is a great way to both summarize bloggers favorite tracks, and connect blogs in a collaborative effort. Additionally, it's a great way for readers to discover other blogs. I would format everything so I would only need a weekly email with mp3 and blurb...not too hard right?
Anyone interested email me at: ben@metrojolt.com **It looks like things are about full** (still give it a shot if you're into the idea)
I thought about that. I like themes, but how would that even work with so many different blog types? I like to see it as a crucible of us all. Of course this idea is still abstract, and I am open to anything.'
List is up to ten, and pretty much full. What do you all think an ideal # is? I am SUPER happy with this response the response, and it hasn't even been 24 hours! I will email everyone involved in the next day or so (just waiting for stragglers) with all the info.
if it's one song per blog per week, i'd say between 10-15 is a good number. 12.5 ;)
i think themes would be possible if you did something like (ian, this is going to sound real familiar to you...) 'driving music' or 'love making music' or something like that. like you said, all the aforementioned blogs span a wide range of genres and styles. to just tell us to throw whatever we want in the mix might become a little well...disjointed, to say the least. if you picked a weekly theme ((more examples, 'sunny day music', 'music for the beach', 'friday night bangers,' etc.)), there would be the guarantee some kind of connect between the songs, regardless of the genre. even if our ideas of what 'sunny day music' might differ entirely, that's the beauty of it. and that's where a reader/listener is going to start to explore the various blogs and genres/styles we've compiled for them. by presenting them with an example of how different musical styles can express the same ideas or emotions, i would imagine they would be more inclined to further explore those new styles, and the blogs that feature them. otherwise it's kind of just a hodgepodge of random songs, and a viewer is more likely to only download what they're used to, from artists they recognize.
In terms of having a theme if we did come up with some connecting influence for each mix then it would work pretty good as a complete compilation on http://8tracks.com/
Could even set up an 8tracks "Vanilla Blogs" username and get a following.
