Rip us to shreds
  • So i should probably introduce myself.

I’m the founder of Dance Yrself Clean, a recently born indie and alternative music blog, but in general we usually just post about music were in love with at the time of posting. I'm in love with music blogging and i would be more than happy if i could just sit in my room blogging all day and night, unfortunately my social life and university crap keep getting in the way.

It would be really swell if i could get some feedback and advice on the layout and design of my blog child www.danceyrselfclean.com
This is my first ever attempt at blogging and setting up my own website so there’s bound to be mistakes all over the shop, but hopefully i can get them ironed out as i learn more coding and such.

    Constructive criticism very much appreciated.

    Thanks

(Oh and my names Luke btw)
  • Hey Luke and welcome!

Site looks good to me - only real criticism would be that the menu font is pretty small up there at the top.
There are a lot of sections to choose from as well - the News and New sections could be a bit confusing, and I don;t think I've ever clicked on an Archives link - but maybe that's just me.

  • Great thanks for the feedback.

Yeah i have been looking at ways to add a secondary navigation to the site
which would mean there would be fewer sections at the top, so then i would be
able to make them slightly bigger. However currently with the theme I’m using
it isn’t really possible without oodles of custom coding stuff. Maybe i could
combine a few of them or something, but ill definitely look into it.

It’s probably that I’m just a bit odd then because I’m always looking through
archives and it bugs me when i can’t find one on a site.

Feedback on load times would also be useful a couple of people have commented
it takes a while to load on the first visit.

  • Pretty sweet design, man.  Loaded just fine for me.  What did you use to create your blog layout?
  • So we made a few changes and such, i hope it looks a bit better now. Still a few things to work out though.

We just used wordpress and a theme called platform pro but we have moved to the platform frameworks theme now. It all terribly simple to use, ive had no coding experience or anything like that.
  • Very nice Luke, I don't think there's anything I can critisize! Really like the font for the post headers.

Are you a UK based blog? If you've got a logo/banner I'd happily stick you in the MFM blogroll! Shoot over an email (chris@musicformorons.com) if you're interested

Anyways, sweet site, nice music, keep it up!
  • Cheers, i spent ruddy ages finding a font to finally settle on.

Yeah we're primarily based in Norwich where most of us go to uni.
Splendid, ill get in touch with you tonight about blogrolling. Ive actually been meaning to email you for ages to enquire about exchanging links as i often visit your site anyway.
