NAYBLOG!
  • i've been saying it for months, but i've finally decided.

i am quitting my blog after june of next year. reason being is that a) need a life, b) want to focus on my band and c) focus on my job and my family and friends.

i can't do all that and be harassed by people to update my blog daily (which i get a little bit of flask for) and then throw together a half-hearted post. i lost the passion in writing an mp3 blog.

granted, this isn't going to happen for nine months. but i've decided that i'd rather go out on top than go out with a whimper.

and gerard now has new fodder. i can see "HELLO AUTUMN QUITS BLOGGING!" (yeah, fuck you for focusing on my band. but now my band won't suck.)
  • thanks for the advanced notice ;-)
  • not a problem.

i've got nine months. but i figured, "go out on top. everyone wins"
  • so you're pregnant, then?
  • hahaha. nooooooo. are you fucking kidding? i can't get a goddamn date!

i'm going to take the blog into it's second birthday. then i'm done.
  • I've decided to quit blogging in 2013. Just thought you guys should know now.
  • if people like nerd litter keep this shit up, i might just fucking quit tonight.

i'm just trying to finish out this year and at least get my blog up to the two year point and be satisfied that i worked hard for two years on a project that people actually - dare i say it? - liked.
  • [wordpress future post widget] Good luck in your future endeavors Bethanne [/wordpress future post widget]
  • god that thing is so versatile
  • Two years is a worthwhile goal, Bethanne. And quitting in favor of band/job/family/friends is understandable and admirable. Never mind these nattering nabobs of nayblogism.

In other Nayblog news, two of my favorite blogs, Little Hits and Cable & Tweed, haven't posted anything in the past month. ;-( (emoticon shedding a single tear.)

receive notice to shut down. Well they do post tons of hardcore classic, the exact type of things protected by big labels.

I download tons of Drive like Jehu bootleg album from them *sniff*
  • He's got a link in his sidebar to the dreaded full-album download site that is my bete noir (I shant name it) so I'm glad he got hosed.
  • You know, reading the comments on that shut down blog is so predictable, but interesting to see:

    1) the people who want their free pirated mp3 site bitch about the band they adored 24 hours before (Beastie Boys), even to the point of threatening to put up anti-Beasties websites and never buy another album again (as though it's the band's fault)...this reminds me of a scene in Stardust Memories where the rabid fan comes up to Woody Allen (who is unintentially dismisssive) and the fan's love goes to hatred in about 10 seconds.

    and

    2) the circuitous rationalizations

(not to start a discussion of that on this thread, but since the link to the site it here, take a look for a laugh/deep sigh.)
  • any reference to Stardust Memories is a good thing; an excellent, wonderful film,

    well played, wendy.
  • thanks chad, it's my fave woody film.
  • i wouldn't say it's my favorite of his, but it's definitely up there. and the balls it took to release something like that right after annie hall, interiors, and manhattan!
  • The excellent punk blogs Agony Shorthand and Strange Reaction are "closing up shop".
  • i started taking a couple days off. kind of a relief, really.
  • days off are nice.

and i haven't updated in a few weeks. (again, other stuff going on. won't update until at least another week or so.)
  • traffic goes right down the toilet, though. oh well. i guess i've given up on becoming an Important MP3 Blog at this point.
  • Everyone needs a coouple of days off now and then, Dave.  I don't think you can do this kind of stuff 'round the clock and keep up with your own life.  It's definitely hard work, and it's not always easy to come up with music and artists you're genuinely excited about.  I think it's fine to take time between posts, especially when those posts are from the heart, and not from a need/desire to be seen/heard.   It's not the number of hits you get that makes you important, it's the amount of sincerity in what it is you do that counts.  i like the new smileys.
  • Whoa, that was deep Digsy.

And Dave, you'll always be important - you were featured on Pitchfork, remember?

I prefer the new non-smilies by the way.  These thumbs-ups made my day/week/life?
  • Posted by: DiGSY @ QBiM  It's definitely hard work, and it's not always easy to come up with music and artists you're genuinely excited about.

Oh it's just a question of time to write/upload stuff. I have more songs/bands to post than I will ever be able to get through.

  • I've been in a no-updates slump for ages, but traffic and subscriptions are climbing steadily.  I imagine they'd be climbing quickly if I got off my arse and did something.
  • Posted by: Dave Rawkblogtraffic goes right down the toilet, though. oh well. i guess i've given up on becoming an Important MP3 Blog at this point.

Yeah, me too Dave... I stopped worrying about getting my hits up a while ago.  I think a break is very neccesary from time to time.  I stopped posting on weekends and it's made a lovely difference.  Also, I started to hate not having the time to get into non promo bands, because i was always busy looking for something new for the blog.  However, about 6 months ago I got real big into twee pop and it changed my blog and outlook on music drastically, of course, for the better, much better.

  • twee pop is the best thing

  • good hodgkins has run its course, so i'm going to give it a forseeable-future-nayblog

i've got some other tricks up my sleeve though
  • I was wondering what you were up to Ryan.  You had a good thing going for a while, but reading your blog of late I could tell you weren't really into it.

  • My fairy blog mother visited me last night- let's just say she wasn't too pleased with my recent behavior.
  • It'll be sad to see you go, Ryan, but looking forward to seeing/hearing what's coming next.
  • I just ended rbally . . . I just won't have the time due to work and personal commitments. Anyway, it was fun and all that.
  • awww. i'm sorry jennings. :(

and i'm done as well. might as well get it over with.
  • man, jennings, that's really sad. i really don't have time for bootlegs but i'm well aware of what gems your blog offered up and how much they were appreciated. godspeed etc.
  • Thanks Sean . . . .

And, I'm sorry to see Bethanne leave.
  • it'll be okay jennings.

as colin meloy once said (in a song), "we both go down together"
  • Good luck with your music, Bethanne! Sounds like it means a lot to you.
  • oh yes, fuck, ditto Bethanne. :( + :)
  • the end may be near for me too.

it's not the same it was before.

  • Nooo, my entire sidebar is closing down :(

Don't give up Matt.  Where will I get my supply of lovely, lovely twee pop? :(
  • it's definitely not definite, but, i guess we'll see how it goes from here
  • i may just be dropping my post frequency
  • Last Sound of Summer called it quits too yesterday.  He was a bit under the radar but had fine taste

eddie: worse then your sidebar going away is the fact that all of these blogs probably linked to you as well.  those hits are now going to go away too.  i wonder if there's a new generation of mp3 blog that I'm not aware of that is going to step up and fill in their giant shoes
  • sorry to see you go, jennings, bethanne and matt.  you're all swell.
  • yep, what he said.  though it sounds like matt is at least leaving the door open?
  • Matt, you can't leave me all alone to fight the indie-pop fight

i guess i've still got Marc Hogan

  • dave, as strange as it may seem, that's actually about 70% of my motivation for continuing on.
  • ONWARD INDIEPOP SOLDIERS

  • There are plenty of European blogs focusing on Indie-pop, so you guys aren't really on your own :-)
