NAYBLOG!
  • WHAT?!!!
  • I've only recently discovered Liz over at the Blisslist and in the comments of her most recent post she's mentioned she's thinking of throwing it in as well.

I hate finding something new right before it ends!
  • it would be a horrible loss. liz has great taste and personality and the blisslist couldn't have been a more appropriate name for her blog. damn. though, it looks like she has a lot of exciting things to look forward to, so cheers to her. if you don't know her, i'd recommend getting on that before she's out for good!
  • It's official... theblisslist is on indefinite hiatus.
  • Alas, no more Torr - http://bit.ly/5CImxr

Won't be giving thanks for that this week.
  • @brad

this line confused me "Every month that goes by less and less singles are getting a physical release. Most are now just 7" and/or downloads which doesn't interest me."

How does he want his singles?
  • Is a 7" not a physical release?  Is the fellow quitting because the CD single has bitten the dust?
  • yeah... little confusing. Maybe he meant cassingles?
  • The Leather Canary is feet up in the bottom of his cage :( it happened back in September. I noticed in October but I'm really missing them now that xmas rolls around. Those Chicago guys put out a hell of a Xmas zip the last couple of years. And they often covered local shows as well as album reviews. Their Friday Blues feautre was lovely. Missing them! sniff sniff

  • It's resting.
  • So many problems with our main web host lately, and now we have been "hacked".

    groan

I have to rely on them to fix it. :( I'm looking to change hosts but it's a complicated procedure and will wait til January to really do so. Stuff like this is so frustrating. :(
  • Christ.  The one really big drawback to being that well-known and visible: obvious hacker target.  Must be very wearing indeed, you have my sympathies.
  • sorry man... who's your host?
  • Yeah - sorry to see that Sean.
Hopefully its just a deface of the frontpage rather than a full hack/deletion by some prick

EDIT - looks like you're back in business. Yayblog!
  • The host for our main site (not mp3s) is a mom'n'pop shop called Revolution Hosting. They have been great to us for years, small and direct service - but lately it's been embarrassingly abysmal. The current hack "fix" is just me rebuilding the site - no fix at all, and they haven't even answered my email about the hack! (The problem is theirs to fix, not mine, I expect.) Argh, etc. Only a matter of time before it's defaced again. [sigh]

    Thanks for the support. :(
  • Culture Bully goes on haitus

http://www.culturebully.com/flip-script. (don't think that the permalink, but it's the best I can do on my phone at the moment)
  • Wow. Well best of luck, Chris. You'll be missed.
  • Good luck Chris, hope all is well.
  • thanks guys -

all's well Matthew - just moving to Canada

    cheers

what's in Canada? nothing, that's what.
  • guess that's what the "just" was for
  • intention wasn't to downplay the move... this is probably the most exciting thing that's come into my life since meeting Frank.

though that probably says something about the excite-o-rama factor of my life.

now it sounds like i'm putting Frank down.

    dammit.
  • Wow, I had no idea you and Frank were even dating!
  • Chris, Calgary welcomes you home my brother!!!

@Tart - as far as "outing" goes, that might have been a two-fer. ;-)
  • dug myself quite the hole, huh?
  • What's the average life span of a music blog? Anyone know?
  • about a furlong
  • Mmm..... footlong hotdog.
  • Is it an Edward Furlong?
  • Tim, you inspired me today in my post title on the battle between Spoon & Vampire Weekend.
  • Oh I see, you saw my facebook pic
  • Anyone know what's up with Side One: Track One ? No new posts for about a month now.

  • Oh fuck.  One of the first blogs I ever read, and John was one of the first guys I ever actually spoke to as well - in fact he invited me to this forum for the first time.
  • Did It Leak? is gone for now.. Apparently the owner died. Man. Not really a "music blog" per se, but you know, still just sad.
  • Looks like John is back in action Toad, though with a only a small post. Maybe it was just a brief hiatus. The turn of the year can be tricky.

    Story about him here. http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2010/01/the_life_and_de.php?page=1

    Only 23.
  • damn...... that's sad.
  • Jesus Christ, what a heartbreaking story. Thanks for posting that.
  • Per We All Want Someone To Shout For - http://www.weallwantsomeone.org/2010/02/09/bloggergoogle-fucking-over-music-bloggers/

Blogger and Google have finally struck down upon music blogs. So far they deleted my friend Chris’s blog It’s A Rap, along with PopTartsSuckToasted, and Livingears (newly started at livingears.com). When google gets complaints from the big labels and legal companies, they always take action. It started with deleting posts that got complaints, and that is why I moved to wordpress in the winter of 2008. I had a feeling that soon it wouldn’t just be posts, but it would gradually move on to the entire blogs themselves.

Without warning, they just deleted all of these bloggers hard work. These guys have put hours of their lives into their site. This is complete bullshit. How the hell can google get away with just coming in and deleteing someone’s website? Ok they posted a track that made someone upset. Email them, and ask them to take it down. That would be the end of it. Was it really neccesary to delete their site? God damn!!!!

This is really upsetting to me, so I can only imagine how those guys feels. They are going to have to rebuild, and start from scratch now. For all you other blogspot bloggers out there, you better get moved over to wordpress, or at least back up your database right now!

    *********************

    PopTarts, eh? Damn!
  • yeah, saw that! good for him, too bad his only back up is his google reader feed of the old blogspot.
  • whole thing is bunk
  • yeah. suddenly, so glad I moved.
  • Looks like Pop Go the 80s got deleted, too:

    http://popgothe80s.blogspot.com/

I hadn't checked it in a while, but it used to be one of my favorites. They would do in-depth posts on individual songs from the 80s with extensive background information on the artist, album, and time of its release. I'm not surprised they got deleted considering they posted a lot of major label pop music, but it's sad that all the work they obviously put into their writing is gone, too. :/
  • it's funny you should mention it, was listening to Dexy's Midnight Runners and Madness and went looking for some youtubes to embed in a post. I was really surprised to see how many were embed-disabled. 80s videos. 20-30 year old videos. Seriously?
  • Chris at Local Vertical has drawn things to a close so he can focus on things at NASA. Sorry to see him go.
