I have my blog's rss feed set so it only shows a partial summary of the post, so people have to come to the actual blog to download the mp3s.
I've noticed that when viewing the feed on certain sites (such as livejournal), the posts cut off abruptly with no indication that there's more to it. Though most of us know to click on the link for the full blog post, I figure there are many people who might be reading it that way that aren't familiar enough with feeds to know that.
So I'd like to know if there is a way to include a default comment in each RSS post that says something like "(click on link for full post & mp3s)", or a way to include that in each actualy blog post that ensures it pops up on the feed (lj for example seems to pick random bits of each post)?.
I've seen this on a few blog feeds, like SixEyes, but I have yet to find a way to do it myself. Any ideas?
I have this problem with Bethanne's in Bloglines. I don't mind since I go to her actual site to view things/ listen to tracks, but it actually shows only two lines on the preview, and it's still confusing me a little.
As far as your issue, I know bloglines will display a site's tagline in the title area, and I think Feedburner has a setting that will let you override that section for it's feed. Not sure if this is exactly what you want, but it could get you on track if you use feedburner.
Ahh, here it is. Under feedburner's settings page, select the "Optimize" section. Then go to "Title/Description Burner." The "Summary Burner" part might also help you out. Hope this helped a little bit.
i think it's either a) blogger or b) the fact that i ramble a lot, but i have my livejouranal feed of CTASLS on my livejournal (surprise!) and it does the same thing. same with the stereogum feed for LJ. it'll show a few lines of text and cut right off. (though sometimes on the CTASLS feed, it'll show the whole post on LJ, links and all. but that's lucky.)
the cool thing about livejournal though is that for their syndicated accounts, they DO have the link to the post in question before the text starts. which is a good thing, but for the other readers like bloglines, i have no idea.
yeah there's a link to the blog when i'm viewing your feed, a link to each individual post with the title, and for most blogs it has a comments(x) link as well. So I suppose it's good since it forces users to visit the site, if that's important to you. I usually visit most mp3blog posts anyways, bloglines is just a good way to know when a site has been updated and what each entry is about.
eh, i don't care. as long as entries just show up in readers like bloglines. in any form.
i just visit blogs all the time. no need for a reader. i do wish that there was a comprehensive livejournal feed so i can just put the ones i want on my friends list other than the four i have now. haha
