Best Myspace Band
  • Anyone else get an e-mail from these guys?

Just wanted to tell you about bestmyspaceband.com - a community we launched about 5 minutes ago, solely devoted to the art of finding good shit on myspace.

It's a place where you can explore new music that other audiobloggers and musicaddicts came across and promoted, and where you can promote stuff you found on your own myspace journeys, or spotlight other acts that you just love. It's very fun.

We'd like to think of it as a human filter that plucks out the good stuff from this huge universe of music. And since almost every band on earth has its own Myspace page, we're talking about serious Hugeness, you know.

We'd love it if you gave BMB a try, and would really like to hear what you think of it. We hope to see you there, submitting your favorite under-the-radar gems and messing with other's findings.

Did you check it out?  Thoughts?  It seems okay, but it really doesn't seem all that worthwhile - none of us are going to go there to find bands to blog about, and who would rather read about a band from some random person on there instead of one of us bloggers?
  • Ugh... that would mean browsing around myspace on purpose.  The pages take forever to load, you need a login to see an entire "page" (that is the pics and video links, etc.) and I usually spend the time waiting to kill the automatic stream so I can orient myself before sampling the music.  Please someone give myspace a makeoverspace.

Oh and this:  "who would rather read about a band from some random person on there instead of one of us bloggers?" - on one hand, get over yourself/selves... on the other hand, one word: audiobiography.
  • Haha, sorry Jim.  That comment was meant as a bit of a joke.

But anyway, how about Facebook music?  Facebook is cleaner than any other social networking site I can think of.  I'd be down with that.
  • that asshole has tried to add me so many times, and every time i keep denying him. so i blocked his ass.

seriously, i don't like it. i'd rather like a band based on what i see on my friends' blogs or even bands that my friends in bands have toured with than some shit like that.
  • Reminds me of when that hot chick kept trying to make out with me and I was all like "Nuh-uh".
  • i browse myspace daily, on purpose, for music.

there's no better place, i think.

  • myspace is a treasure trove, especially once you find something good and browse through their network of musician friends.  weeding out the family and friends' bands of the band, you usually end up with a couple of good additional discoveries.

of course, i've had the "hours on myspace and nothing to show for it" days too.  those suck.

the best myspace band currently, by the way, is Arms and Legs.  i posted on them yesterday (again), but they really are worth hearing.  that, and husbands love your wives.  she's gonna be the next lo-fi star.
  • all these new sites trying to (unsuccessfully) capitalize on the blogosphere/online music boom really irritate me, honestly. they're all like, "HEY TAKE YOUR FREE TIME TO HELP US PROMOTE OUR SHITTY START-UP WITH NO FORESEEABLE BENEFITS TO YOURSELF" and it's just like, uhhhh dude I already have a music website.

  • hey guys.  listen to statuesque.  OKAY.

    like, just do it.

  • dave i'm pretty sure you would like them(him)
  • lol, he isnt even really on myspace

i didnt even find him there

    this is so unrelated

  • I have come across some gems as well on Myspace (like the Devastations through the Clogs) but quite honestly I can't stand how slow it is sometimes...

And I kind of have to agree with Matt, "who would rather read about a band from some random person on there instead of one of us bloggers?" I like to think that the time and energy I as well as everyone else puts into their blogs is worth some credit, especially the opinions/reviews...I just for see this being another "indie is cool" type of thing where there are 52 million people posting about Sufjan Stevens (as if no one has ever heard of Sufjan Stevens).
  • The best Myspace band I have ever heard is The Boy with the Heart.
