warning: band promotion!

  • i'm not trying to direct you guys to my blog with this post, seriously, but has anyone heard the Susan Christie record that came out a couple months ago on Finders Keepers? it was recorded in 1970 and there are only like 3 original pressings in the world, and the production is so far ahead of its time it drives me crazy. anyway, check it out if you ever get the chance, i can't imagine anyone not liking it. start with "paint a lady" and "for the love of a soldier"

I listened to this endlessly when it came out and i just revisited it this week and it's even better than i remember.

oh and i have no connection to the artist or label, she could be dead for all i know. i just love it.
  • I'm inclined to trust you on this after downloading Sybille Baier from your list. I've been getting into German music since I moved to Berlin, and I hadn't heard of her till then. But it's good stuff.
  • Chris,

I loved "For The Love of A Soldier" when I first heard it on your site, and spurred by this extra recommendation, I got the album. You're totally right about the production and the whole thing is pretty wonderful, so thanks for the push.

One note though -- what do you make of that intro to "Yesterday, Where's My Mind?" I'm not sure if I like it or not--it's certainly interesting at the very least-- but either way, it's so out-of-nowhere that it kind of throws off the flow of the album for me. Maybe it will take more listens to absorb it.
  • yeah, i don't know about that intro. you're right, it disrupts the flow more than anything, and if it wasn't there, "Yesterday..." may be the best song on the album. i usually skip the intro, honestly.
  • dude i still listen to that song a lot
  • it really grew on me
  • if it's not about baby rats it's no good

    j/k
  • give that man a prize!
