Best Week Ever is entirely random...on a day when Matt Picasso puts up a GREAT post on Oh No! Oh My!, BWE links to my simple, plain and boring post on the band which offers no new information and the same song that everyone and their brother is putting up lately (Walk in the Park).
So, yeah, it's a YAYBLOG for me, because it's nice to be noticed...but it wasn't even the second best post on the band that was recently put up on a music blog. Random.
The important thing is that Oh No! are getting some coverage. Thanks for saying my post was good. I didn't feel confident about it, but I couldn't sit on that one for very long. Haha. Actually I just remembered that I was putting it online and fell asleep for two hours in my computer chair. This would explain the disjointed writing style, I guess.
Matt I actually found them [Oh No! Oh My!] for the first time when you posted on them this spring. Great band that I've been listening to since, thanks for sharing 'em regularly. Lolla after 6 shows is one of the most impressive things I've ever heard. I suppose Gnarls Barkley's has a headliner spot without many shows, but you know what I mean... that doesn't count lol.
Anyways back to YAYBLOG...
I've given in (or more accurately gotten off my ass) and made a podcast. I figured it would be a good way to preview bands from 10,000 lakes festival in minnesota in a couple weeks.
The post is here: http://www.burningoak.com/2006/07/14/bop01-10klf-thursday/
The new feed is here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BurningOakPodcasts/
I'd love any comments/tips from some of you that have been doing this longer, or a headsup if I messed up my feed in there somewhere.
I did a reader submitted covers contest, and I think it turned out pretty well. (Alex from this list and Eric from CYSTSFTS both submitted entries from their bands!)
Beach Boys, Neutral Milk Hotel, Fraggle Rock and more...
On a related note, apparently the new edition of DIW Magazine has a feature on bloggers? An anonymous commenter told me that I'm in it, and it is a "harsh" mention. If anyone has a way of finding out what was said, that'd be lovely.
It looks like all my shoegazer posts have been widely read. I got this in my email tonite....
My name is Raven, and I run Myairshoes.com. It is a website which is updated daily with new shoe releases from all different types of shoe brands. Although our websites are completely different, I like the originality of your website marsneedsguitars.com . The fact that it is unique and original in content is appealing to me.
I have been working on linking to and from websites that has visitors with possibly the same interest as my website visitors. I was wondering if we can link to one another? Typically Myairshoes.com averages thousands of unique visitors and page views on a monthly basis. Whether you are interested or not, please notify me when you have time. Thanks.
I put out the second BurningOak podcast, another 10,000 Lakes Festival featurette, this time for bands playing on Friday.
Artists include:
Railroad Earth
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey
Stealin’ Strings
Madahoochi
Keller Williams Incident
God Johnson
Phil Lesh & Friends
Green Lemon
Also I promise I'll sound much more excited when I get a microphone that is worth more than 39 cents ;o)
I did an interview with Kite Flying Society - a band that should definitely start taking the blogs by storm this summer if there's any justice in the world - and just posted it on the site...
Yay! I've been pimping KFS out for a while now. Rich from C&T actually alerted me to the fact that they gave me a shoutout in their last radio interview. What swell folks.
Good interview btw. I will be using it as research for my upcoming interview!
This is a real yayblog. Not like that time I yayblogged about cookies from trader joe's.
I did an interview with Lions In The Street. There two reasons why you should read this interview. 1. They Rock. 2. After getting dumped by a major they took the step of making their next release absolutely free over the internet.
cookies are a yayblog! any blogger that talks about cookies are great.
not necessarly cookies though, but i need to swing by my local health food store sometime soon. i have a craving for peanut-butter filled pretzels. (yes, peanut butter. it's actually really good and one of my friends (who plays in a band) recommended them to me and i'm hooked.)
Yeah, Matt, they said some VERY nice things about you in the interview..saying how much cooler you were at 19 than they would ever be, how big of fans they were of your site, how great it was that you picked up on their music. If you haven't heard it yet, you definitely should...it will make you feel warm and fuzzy. :)
This is a yayblog shout out for Goodhodgkins and Songs To The Siren who have both recently discovered Ramona Cordova. ECA Records must have reserviced the record recently so check your mailbox or your stack of discs for this one.
yeah, they've been pushing it again. i keep meaning to write something but never feel like it on a given night. do you have any idea when he's releasing new material?
I'd be insulting people too if I fabricated interviews for the Village Voice and lost my job. Everything about that article (especially the band choices) is hilarious.
And especially comparing Beirut to NMH without mentioning a dude from NMH plays all over the record with him. Dude needs to research. I guess old journalistic habits die hard.
also, not necessarily related but you can find my ugly mug (and my girlfriend's much prettier face) in the dirty on purpose tour diary.. heh.
