It's trebuchet-powered!  Are the others?  I think not.

You didn't get it yet?  That's weird, I sent it via overnight courier.

Go check your mailbox again.  RIGHT NOW.
  • I like this topic. Here's one of my favorite videos of all time ( I love the song so that helps) from the completely unknown Swedish singer Ed Greene, be the 48th person to see this on You Tube!  plus a new video of an old song, "Edison", by the Swedish group Differnet
  • I really liked that video, craig.  i don't even care if it was from '06.   if we are talking about all-time videos i have to mention R.E.M.'s "Imitation of Life", A-ha's "Take on Me", and Men Without Hats "Safety Dance" (for best use of dancing midgets).
  • Is it common knowledge that the scene in aha's "Take On Me" video where the singer is in the hallway and is switching from cartoon to "real" is borrowed from a similar scene in the film Altered States where the character played by William Hurt is also going through some sort of transformation?
  • btw Craig, that video was pretty rad, good song too.
  • I kinda wish there was a way to make everyone stop making animated videos for two or three years.
  • Also, "Heimdalsgate..." is wonderful, but the school-play angle really needs to stop too.
  • the video for Grizzly Bear's "Knife" (which i'm pretty sure was only released this year) is holy shit good, and perfect for the song.  it's much better on TV, where you can see the detail work of the video processing/animation, but well you know.

and even though i think lance bangs is pretty much a hack, his video for Menomena's "Wet and Rusting" (i will not link to mtv's site) is pretty great.

and that j dilla video (and song) for "nothing like this" is pretty great.

    i've been dvr'ing "subterranean" lately
  • I just posted my top 10 of the year (Frank that Dirty on Purpose video was fantastic, I made it a last-second addition).   Matt, You'll be happy to know that none of them are animated.
  • Mmm from this year I don't know any... oh no wait: campesinos - we throw parties you throw knives. At least I think it's from this year.

If were talking about random favorites from all time right now I'd go for Ken Ishii's Extra (from... 1998?):

the quality on youtube is as bad as usual but I love those Akira aesthetics which is probably one of the few anime films I love along with Vampire Hunter D.

(yes sorry matt they're both animated)
  • I'm loving the new Low video for Breaker

    Chad VanGaalen says you're wrong

  • Posted by: I'mJustSayin...KyleI'm loving the new Low video for Breaker

The moral of the video is that you CAN have your cake and eat it too but you'll be really sickened, messy and have made an ass out of yourself and no one will lift a hand to help you except to clap.

  • Chad VanGaalen is such a great example because even though he's an animator, his animation style doesn't suit his songs at all, and so the videos really don't work.

Howdy, Stranger!
