    this has nothing to do with this thread but i don't feel like starting a new one. does anyone know how to pronounce the belgian beer "hoegaarden"? is it "hoe," like i'm going to hoe the garden, or is it "who," like who let the dogs out?



    happy new year, too, in case i forget after i drink my hoegaarden. : )

     "hoo-gaarden" is a pretty good bet I guess - if you know how to pronounce "hoch" in German (and then remove the "ch" at the end) you know exactly how to pronounce Hoegaarden :)

    Marcy I can say with near total certainty that pronouncing it properly in an English-speaking country will get you looked at like a muppet.  Everyone says Ho-garden here, as in to actually go out and hoe your garden, and whilst I know this is wrong, to suddenly go out and start pronouncing it properly would make me feel like a right pretentious muppet.  Similarly Lowenbrau.

    well, i always said hoe-garden, but on the six-pack carrier it said "who"-garden, so i suddenly got confused. the world doesn't need a confused marcy wandering around, you know. ;-)
