What would your 33 and a third book be? (For Twitter Fans: #33third in
  • What would be your 33⅓ book be? That is to say, an album you really like / really admire / would like to study / one that has effected you enough for you to write a whole book about it — not just your favorite album.

(Please go and outline your 33⅓ book in less than 140 characters on twitter using #33third if twitter is your thing ... as I just done. I'd call it #0.33⅓ - but twitter's search doesn't play nice with such complexity)
  • After looking at that wiki page I find it hard to believe that no one's written about any of the early Siouxsie albums.
  • Here's a list of 170 proposed albums that were proposed and were accepted for the next round.

  • Because this is for Twitter, my record will be When The Pawn Hits The Conflicts He Thinks Like A King What He Knows Throws The Blows When He Goes To The Fight And He'll Win The Whole Thing Fore He Enters The Ring There's No Baby To Batter When Your Mind is Your Might So When You Go Solo. You Hold Your Own Hand And Remember That Depth Is The Greatest Of Heights And If You Know Where You Stand. Then You'll Know Where To Land And If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You Know That You're Right by Fiona Apple McAfee Maggart.

  • Curses, foiled.  Okay, then I'm switching.

    X - LA
  • I'd go with Pulp - "Different Class".  Not only was it a life-changing album for me, I'm also incredibly interested in the class struggles of Britain. :-p
  • Drive-By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera

    totally.
  • Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner

It's not his best, or even my favorite, but it's a great album and only he could have made it.
  • The following are amongst my favorite albums which are not in the list and which I think would be fun reviewing, some of these have some interesting cultural and historical context behind them... I find it hard to pick just one, it's between Stereolab, Can and Caetano Veloso, those 3 albums are definitely deserving of in-depth study:

Caetano Veloso - Caetano Veloso (1968)

    Can - Ege Bamyasi

    Four Tet - Rounds

    Kraftwerk - Die Mensch Maschine

    Stereolab - Dots & Loops

    Slowdive - Souvlaki

The Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold as Love

Glad they've considered Fennesz and Kid A on the next set, I'm really looking forward to those two.
  • Mine would be The Smiths "Strangeways, Here We Come."  I read the Meat Is Murder 331/3 book, and it was a pretty excellent novel.

Would definitely buy the Caetano Veloso.
  • A Slowdive-Souvlaki review would be great, especially if someone could get details on Brian Eno's involvement. I absolutely love that record.
  • Husker Du - Zen Arcade
  • The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?

Know that album backward and forward.
  • hefner - breaking god's heart. there aren't many albums i could actually talk about for a hundred pages without sounding insane, but this is one of them. probably pinkerton too.
