if you're going to blog about black lips/wavves-gate
  • can we collectively do the internet a favor and either not blog about this because it's stupid or, instead of the inevitable, breathless, "Guys, look, THESE BANDS ARE FIGHTING! WHAT A BIG DEAL" news articles certain publications are sure to post tomorrow, critique both of these guys for being drug/booze-addled aggro douchebags fostering violence and homophobia in an attempt to gain cred and sell another 500 copies of their mediocre albums

    thanks guys

miss 2003 when indie rock was for sensitive dudes with messenger bags
  • I guess I'll have to hope someone wrote about it because I have no idea what this is about.
  • Nevermind, thanks to the power of Google and Brooklyn Vegan I am now informed. Ya know, I've avoided most attempts to commit violence upon my person by giving my opponent a hug. These guys need to learn the power of hugs.
  • I like this idea and cannot stand either of these bands.

    is indie over yet?
  • it's been over for years, we're well into the third-wave/Nickelback era.
  • I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with you Rawkblog, this news is not worth posting about...it really doesn't have anything to do with music....or fans of music. Take the crystal Castles mishap...that was important to blog about because they screwed over a slew of fans...something people should know about before they put down twenty bucks to see two 8 bit assholes. This really is just a fight which happens all the time. Also, I find it funny that p4k cited Brooklyn Vegan as the source and has never done the same when they take a story from us...baby steps I guess.
  • They also cited a blog, which frankly I would love to find another name for. Can we be m-logs or something and let that piece of crap keep the name "blog"?

online music writing sites = mlogs? mulogs? oh geeze anything to distance me from whatever it is that their key source thinks she's doing.
  • how about "diary"
  • I'm really good friends with Wavves and I would take his word for it.
  • I prefer "online music zine." Zine is old school.
  • Posted by: welistenforyou Also, I find it funny that p4k cited Brooklyn Vegan as the source and has never done the same when they take a story from us...baby steps I guess.

This is unfair and untrue.  I have often seen p4k cite blogs as sources for news items and videos.  It's usually only the upper-tier blogs like gum or gvb, but those are also the blogs they're most likely to read.  They get the same tips and press releases as everyone else.
  • fucking zines, bitches!

also, i miss 1991, when indie was for kids who wanted to punch somebody. granted, i was in first grade at the time, but a man is entitled to his dreams.

Though I just remembered that they recently ran a friend's photo without either attribution or payment.

So there's that.  Strike "unfair and untrue," go with "not always true."
  • What was that J HoaS? We always hire our own photogs or use freely offered images. The only mistake we've made in that regard recently that I know of involved a PR company offering a promotional image without the photog's permission, and we promptly removed that from our site when we learned about it-- and we tracked down the photog and made sure that happened after a stray tweet she made. If you or your friend could email me at scott@pitchfork.com, I can sort out the specifics asap. I can assure you it was either the incident above or an honest mistake. We have a photog agreement that every contributor signs and we don't take things like that lightly.

I don't think any of us working in the office even read welistenforyou-- I wouldn't know it existed were it not for the Clues berating here. Sorry.
  • @tart - I hear ya, I always hated the word "blog", but over time I've learned to accept it... Personally, I prefer web enhanced brain linguistics organically gyrated systematically, or "weblogs" for short.
  • I'm sure none of you guys read us, I know it's hard/almost impossible to read every blog to determine who "broke" a story first, but what does happen is a story will start with a smaller blog than work it's way up to you guys and at that time, you might cite a BV/GVB/Sterogum etc. I remember this happening several times, the most laughable was when we broke the stupid story about Dan Deacon not being on acid and then after it got passed around it showed up on p4k three/four days later. There have been more instances but I'm sure most smaller blogs have felt this has happened to them at some point. Once again, I understand how much man power it would take to find who broke every story, I'm sure we have posted stuff and not given due credit. It was also funny to me because someone started a thread on here about p4k not citing news leaks and then bam...this story come up with a citation. The don, Ryan S did follow us on twitter so I'm sure he occasionally sees some of our posts...do I think P4k re-posts articles with the intention of not giving credit...no.
Also I didn't berate Clues the album. I berated who ever wrote that lazy review you guys posted which refused to provide any insight or semblance that the reviewer actually listened to the album.
  • Should have known better to keep my mouth shut. If you don't have anything positive to say, then it is best to say nothing at all. Sorry P4k and HRO, keep doing what you're doing and I will keep my silly opinions to myself.
  • snaps... x2
  • what? did p4k steal my expose on jesus? bastard still owes me money.
  • thread got weird
  • LOOK AT THE DESTRUCTION THAT P4K HATH WROUGHT
  • P4K SHALL SMITE THEE! AND SMITE THEE WITH LARGETH JARS OF MIRACLE WHIP ASS!
  • @Dave... what was this thread about again?
  • "jesus christ "

    "thread got weird"

Sorry guys, my bad. Should have known better to keep my mouth shut. If you don't have anything positive to say, then it is best to say nothing at all. Won't happen again, trust me...
  • I for one think the whole fight thing is awesome and hilarious. I hope the exposure leads more indie rock dingbats to attempt to kick each other's asses. And next time please make sure someone's ready with video.

And also, let's bring back the whole "Interpol bass player has herpes" thing. That was awesome. Surely, some other musicians have dreaded social diseases...
  • why God is there so much hate in the world?

maybe after wavves and black lips duke it out, we can watch merzmars' inferiority complex take on his superiority complex in a battle of pretentiousness such as the blogosphere has never seen.
  • Seriously guys, enough with the personal attacks? Man. And I don't just mean this thread.

    P.S. I don't mean to sound all preachy. It's just...frustrating.
  • "maybe after wavves and black lips duke it out, we can watch merzmars' inferiority complex take on his superiority complex in a battle of pretentiousness such as the blogosphere has never seen."

Ouch, damn, that knife in my back fucking hurts. Though it is interesting to me that you know so much about me, Thomas. Think what you must but I have neither an inferiority complex or a superiority complex. Was just trying to voice my opinion. Unfortunately, it happened to be negative in this case. Should have known better, if you don't have anything positive to say, then it is best to say nothing at all. I have no desire or strength to take barbs and ridicule when voicing my own opinion. And that is what always happens here when you make even the slightest remark or comment that comes across as negative.

I don't even know you Thomas but you come across as if you know me which I find both perplexing and interesting. I have been on this message board since 2006 and have been blogging since 2005. I had a few other blogs before I settled in with Mars Needs Guitars. I know quite a bit about the workings of music blogging and the people who play various roles in it. Hence, at times, the critical comments and positive ones too. I thought the purpose of this board was to share your opinion whether it be negative or positive. Obviously, I was wrong in thinking that. This isn't the first time that I have been ridiculed or shut down because of a comment I made. I guess I shouldn't expect anything else. And, should have learned my lesson long ago. Again, the golden rule is, if you don't have anything positive to say then it is best to say nothing at all.

I am not a kid and will be 50 yrs old in two years. I feel that I've have rightfully gained some wisdom in those years. Hence, my propensity to share my thoughts at times. This is not an excuse but more of a fact. Times have not been good for me lately at all. And I work hard at getting through each day. Blogging provides a wonderful hobby and distraction to keep me from focusing on my problems. I am just a plain old guy, with some struggles and problems, trying to survive in a complex world.

As for P4K and HRO, they obviously can keep on doing what they know is best and I will keep on doing what I know is best. In retrospect, I realize that I certainly have no right, qualifications or merit to judge them. And, therein is where I went wrong. And, for the record, I will never, ever again write a negative comment on this board. You have my word on that. And, BTW the people who really do know me, know that I am a good guy with a kind heart.

So, now I will get back to extracting that fucking large knife that is sticking out of my back. Damn, that thing hurts. Well, I suppose I deserve it for sure. It's interesting to know that someone I know nothing about, has such a deep knowledge of my motives and who/what I am about. Truly, I am not trying to be sarcastic, with that last sentence, in any way, shape, or form. It does make me think about things though, mainly because of the way you have judged me. But, after some thought, the truth is, I have also judged unfairly regarding P4K and HRO, so I don't deserve the right to fault you in anyway for your judgments/comments about my character. I, quite frankly, got what I deserved and sincerely apologize to anyone and everyone that I offended with my earlier comments on this thread.

    - Merz
  • whats wrong with HRO? Just another mp3 blog trying to get 'mad hits'' and 'mad ad revenue.' Feel sad.
  • Didn't this story already happen with Jack White and that guy from Von Bondies or something?
  • I look forward to the first blogger fight. "web fists"?!
  • Hey Tim, I'm game for a good ol' blogfight, as long as P4K will report on it! We can settle the fight by having a mixtape-off? The 405 & I did this, I think they are almost out of the feeding tubes -- http://blog.tsururadio.com/2009/06/tsururadio-vs-405-mixtape-battle.html

    I'll start....

Hey Tim, your mamma's soooo fat, her nickname is, "DAAAAAAAAAAAMN!"
She's so fat, her belt size is equator!
    She's so fat, she wears Levi's 1002s!
She's so fat, she puts mayonnaise on aspirin!

(your turn... make it look good, Scott's watching)
  • <awkward>Tim's mom has passed on</awkward>
  • seriously???

    oh man... sorry Tim.
  • That be fighting talk (and no, she's still knocking around).

My last fight was with someone wearing a full suit of armour on a frozen wasteland in the highlands. Did not end well. Bring it boyo.

Your Mamma's so fat when she sits on my face I can't hear the stereo.
  • Thomas, it's basically impossible to respond to you without getting personal, so the best I can do is say: you're neither charming nor insightful when picking apart someone elses comments. Sometimes it's best to just STFU xoxo

and don't worry, Tsuru, Tim ain't got no mama. He's the spawn of the devil. And he's coming home with me tonight if I get my way ;)
  • i don't like to make blanket statements but. . . some people take themselves WAY too seriously.

the last thing this forum needs is more divas that hijack threads to rant about other bloggers, and then delete their comments when they take flak for them.

its fine if we disagree, Tart.

  • Oh Tim, oh no you di'n't......

Your mamma's so fat, she was baptized in the ocean!
Hell, your mamma's so fat, you got to step 10 feet just to see all of her!
Shiiiiiiiii.... your mamma's so fat, we're both in her right now!
Your mamma's so fat, Tart had to book a plane ticket to get to you on the other side before swooping you off to her love shack.
  • Sorry Tsuru, but Tim's Mum is actually quite fit.

    I'd shag her, anyway.

(Now that should work - dukes up, Walrus Boy!)
  • lots of people are baptized in the ocean
  • @thomas... not by necessity.

@Toad look, if you like super-plus sized ladies, I'm not one to judge.
  • elbo.ws/vanilla; not all rainbows, sunshine, and comic sans anymore
  • you want some of this bryon???

    ;)
