Where you from?
  • I don't know about you, but writing groups help keep me focused. Where are you from? Maybe this can help create Elbo.ws writing group everywhere?

    I'm from SF. Surprise, right?
  • Davis CA, not to far from you
  • From Tampa, FL but been in Columbus, OH for 6 years now.
  • I live in St. Petersburg
  • Moka lives in a thread? =o

    ;)
  • new orleans.....
  • Connecticut: America's most unrecognized state.
  • You mean Connechusett? I've heard of it. It's near Guam or something.
  • Oops, thanks Moka.

Connecticut is a state? Who recognized that shit?
  • I'm from Madison, WI but I've been in St. Louis, MO for nearly 5 years now.
  • No, it's not a state, it's a suburb of NY, just like Jersey.

    (snaps).
  • No problem. There was actually yet another similar thread in here but I can't find it. I might be wrong but I think it was started by Brandon to map all blogs on elbows.

Anyways, I live in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Right at the center.
  • London town.
  • Aquascalientes?? I've been there! A couple times.... love that town!!
  • DC! Under 3 feet of snow!
  • Really? What for? There's not that many things you can do around here. You should drop me a line if you ever intend to come back round here, would love to hang out with some fellow music bloggers.
  • @moka - yep! For work. Used to make jeans down there, spent a quite a few weeks working on washes at the factory. I was also there for a little festival where they had drinks & a little haunted house at a church and whatnot (can't remember the festival name). I will say this, Aquascalientes = BEST sipping tequila!! So so so smooth.....
  • Monson, MA. Which no one in MA knows about, but is eight miles FROM Connecticut. That kind of says what it needs to, eh?

We only get five radio stations. Our bar - yes, we have ONE, though it was closed for most of 2008 for remodeling - closes at 10, and isn't open on Mondays or Tuesdays. We have two pizza places, and a tiny dunkin donuts "express" with four tables, but the nearest chinese food or fast food is 20 min. away.

    Blogging from the boondocks FTW!
  • boyhowdy- WOW. I now understand the definition of BOONDOCKS. You should put that up on Urban Dictionary.
  • boyhowdy -
In Athens, 10PM is still considered "happy hour specials" haha. I feel for you.
  • dude. I wish there were happy hour specials here till 10pm!
  • Firmly located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The real test for location is what do you pay for a pint of beer! $6-$11/pint in Cow-Town pending quality and location.
  • Tsuru: Yeah we make Levis and Pepe Jeans and whatnot over here, then we send them to the states and they send them back to us for 10 times the price. Fortunately I've got some contacts in the underworld and I always buy mine really cheap ;)

The festival you're referring to is San Marcos. Lasts for over a month and people drink all damn day and night. Don't know when was the last time you were here but it's pretty big nowadays. Could be wrong but read somewhere that it is supposed to be the third most assisted festival in the world next to Oktoberfest and the Carnaval in Brazil. It doesn't seem that big deal to me but maybe it's because I live here :P
  • @Slowcoustic
$11 pint! THAT's CRIMINAL. I thought our prison industrial complex was bad in CA, but shit at least our pints are no where more than $7 in a NICE NICE spot..SHIT. I'm going to go drink a beer for you!
  • £3-£4, although only £1.80 in the students' union building, which is one of the reasons I still do a college radio show despite being in my 30s.
  • Orrrstraya, mate! Except I never say mate. Or G'day.

Pot of Carlton Draught (my beer of choice) around $3-$4. We don't do pints here.
  • @Moka - ah yes! that's it! San Marcos, thank you! Good times. Yeah, didn't think it was a big deal, but it was definitely great to just hang out and absorb the wonderful culture. Good memories. My favourite city in Mexico is still Puebla, probably because it was my first real Mexican experience outside of Juarez/El Paso. I really love Mexico, hope to take my wife there (she's never been) soon for a little vaca.
  • DC, unfortunately under 3 feet of snow as well
  • PBR: $2, standard everywhere in Athens. $3.50 for a "fancy nice beer". We're rumored to get a whopping 2 inches of snow today, so the whole town is stocking up and freaking out haha.
  • DC for the past 4 years with about a year in the middle in NYC (I'm a student, so I'm at University of Maryland and was at Tisch/NYU for a bit.) Am probably moving to LA or NYC for job purposes next year (graduating this May). May have to change where Knox Road is "based out of" -- we'll see where Jamie ends up. Jon spends his time between DC (mostly) and NYC.

Boston (Newton, specifically) will always be my home though.
  • I'm from the FUTURE!
  • someone's drunk again...
  • A drunk toad is a happy croak.
  • at the ever-delicious spinelli's pizza, you can get a can of PBR for $1. and i think they used to have a half off night where a can was $0.50. plus they have this beautiful work of art in the dining room.
  • DC, unfortunately under 3 feet of snow as well

hm, we should totally be in touch :-D
  • haha Buzzgrinder, gazing upon that Adonis with a slice and bottle in hand might be the definition of bliss.
  • Columbus, Ohio until three years ago when I decided on the river-rat option and a move down to Cincinnati.
  • I need to move, just to enjoy a beer! I worked in a downtown hotel and the "staff rate" for a pint of domestic beer was $4.00! I think Calgary thinks it is more important than it is. I don't even know if PBR is even available here... Sorry to move this thread to beer, but you know, talk about what you love!
  • move this thread to beer! move this thread to beer! I'm in your corner man, until I fall over.
  • I haven't seen PBR since moving up here either @Slowcoustic, but as someone who has overindulged in both countries in the past few months I'd like to think that I can attest to the difference in quality. Then again I'm sitting here sipping a beer called "Black Ice"... at least Molson brews it. I think. That said, it was the cheapest beer I could find--a 15 pack for $18 something. Not saying I would ever take pride in drinking Milwaukee's Best (Ice?), but there's something to be said for being able to buy a 12 pack for 8 or 9 bucks. A 24-case of reasonable good beer here is like $40... that, sir, is rigoddamndiculous.

Either way, PBR tall boys are rad for what they are (at the price, especially) & I'd still like to think that Kokanee Gold's are rad for what they are. $5 a beer adds up kinda quick though, especially for a dude with no real "job prospects."
  • Born in Luanda, Angola...
    Grew up in Alexandria, VA
    Currently in Boston, MA
  • @hawk moon you are more alt/hip than you care to admit. Red White and Blue is the dregs of Pabst Blue Ribbon.... MD 20/20 = real bad hangovers/bendovers.

Currently listening to Avi Buffalo - "what's it in for"////Carles is a genius...
  • mad dog is evil.
  • man... I remember one of my first wicked drunk nights with friends on MD20/20. Shoplifted the "wine". The shape of the bottle was made to sit in the waist of you pants. And back then (late 80s), baggy jeans were allowed (poor hipsters, super-skinnys make it tough to shoplift).
  • Good to know you guys have the same game.

I can think of quite a few ummm interesting nights out in Glasgow starting out on Some Buckfast at Nice n Sleazy. Fuck that stuff is evil, even if it is made by monks.

  • Back in my college days in Minnesota this was cheaper than bottled war. Thirty-three cents a can! or $2 a 6-pack! Hell yeah baby. It even tasted better than Sex-port and Milwaukee's Best
  • born and raised in Fishkill, NY
