YAYBLOG! 2.0
  • My blog was tweeted by someone with 20,000 followers (Tiga), which was then retweeted by someone with 35,000 followers (Erol Alkan)...Hello new busiest day.
  • Congrats!
  • awesome /dublin!
  • Thanks, hoping I get some new regular followers out of it :)
  • Whoa that's really great! Congrats to ya.
  • We are 1 years old today!

2 new contributors and a new layout.

  • Happy birthday :)
  • Just hit 20,000 views, not a huge amount, but I'm only a week into my 5th month so I'm pretty happy :)
  • That's pretty crazy! congrats, good work man
  • new blog with some cool beach boys covers

    http://gnomeadsgalaxy.blogspot.com/2011/01/beach-boys-covers.html
  • Just hit 3000 views since our relaunch of malleus&incus less than two weeks ago. Not enormous numbers, but considering we have had between 19 and 20k hits since our initial wordpress.com launch ~7 months ago (with a three month hiatus), its nice to see the hits rolling in. I've definitely seen some very dedicated readers on woopra as well, so that is cool too.

I'm the main writer, with several contributors more interested in posting quick things on our tumblr (which I started yesterday). The site redesign is looking pretty good at this point too - gotten quite a few compliments!
  • I'll throw another compliment your way, too. - site looks awsome. I like the minmalistic vibe but it's still totally versatile. Well done.
  • Mp3Hugger broke free from Blogger to its own domain and looks great:

    http://www.mp3hugger.com
  • ah! nicely done to mp3hugger!
  • Awesome Kevin! mp3hugger has always been one of my most favorite blogs. Whether on blogspot, your own domain or whatever - you can count on me as a loyal daily visitor!

  • Wow, thanks everyone. Not that exciting really and to be honest as a quick publishing tool I believe blogger actually tops wordpress.
  • Good work old chap.  You may or may not come to find it easier in the long run, but for now it is most definitely safer, and you have a LOT of history to preserve on that blog.

Finally switched to our own custom domain ... and a better featured content slider. Lookin' good!
  • Getting interviewed tomorrow about my zine & all things tsuru for one of the weekly publications here...
  • After a couple steady weeks of emails to PR I got my first biter. I got my first press-pass and the manger wants us to do an interview, too. Hell yeah!

    EDIT:

And I'm now a contributer at Vaycay Vitamins...good day.
  • Ah congratulations metro jolt!
press passes are by far the best job perks ever. and thats great about VV.

As for me. After seeing the Coachella lineup, I think I might be psychic.

    Yay.
  • I'm starting a Classic Albums Appreciation Club:

    http://www.muruch.com/2011/01/muruchs-classic-album-appreciation-club.html

Please comment there with your opinion of this week's choice and your own favorite classic albums, I'm makin' a list.
  • @Muruch - This is such a cool idea and thanks for pointing it out! I'm also a fan of the album and kind of get discouraged these days with too much focus (imo) on singles. The album tells the whole story and unfortunately appears to have fallen by the wayside in recent years.

Also, excellent selection on the first one. Zep's IV is a huge classic and a serious all time favorite of mine. I'll definitely be following you along in the journey. Though, I'm not very 'social' so please don't count on comments from me on the blog. But, believe me, I will be following along in the background.

    Good stuff!

  • @merz - Thanks! I got the idea from the London club as featured on BBC News. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I listened to full albums all the time in the car, but haven't taken that time at home in a long while. Like you, I don't like the increased focus on singles. I feel sorry for kids today ("in my day we walked uphill in the snow both ways!";p) who won't stumble across an album cover when they're older and get that powerful hit of nostalgia, which is one of the best things about music.

Ps. I'm not concerned w/ comments, just glad I got at least one person to listen to the album. :)
  • All the Led Zeppelin albums are in that limited few classic albums that I have listened to from start to finish oh so many times. It's my Dad's favourite album of all time so even if I didn't want to I would have done. Lucky its fucking awesome.
  • Tim - IV is my favorite, because "When the Levee Breaks" is my favorite of their songs. But you're right, they're all awesome. I had a such a great time listening to it, I hope other people gave it a try.

This week's selection is The Who's Tommy.

I've never listened to this one straight to finish, so should be interesting.

Do you all want me to keep posting the selections here? I don't want to bug anyone. I'm trying to do post them on the site every Monday or Tuesday if you prefer to check there.
  • Please do. I'm always keen to hear what "classic" albums I may have missed out on in my youth.
  • two classics....

Peter Gabriel - s/t (Melting Face)
Yes - Close To The Edge
  • "Pinball Wizard"

  • Ooh I like this. Good idea muruch. Yayblog indeed.

    Paul Simon - Graceland.
still probably my favorite american record.
  • Graceland is timeless. It gets a good memory spin every few months at Walrus Towers.
  • Remember reading a biography on Simon & Garfunkel about 20 years ago. Very interesting.
  • Very nicely done Muruch. Very good idea. Approve. It's creative and it's like a blast to the past. Like you said, it brings back a strong sense of nostalgia. I like it very much.

Hmmm ... the first album that comes to mind is London Calling by the Clash, or maybe a little bit of the Ramones.
  • Sorry to break with the current theme, but I have a Yay! I want to share.

I got my first new writer today! And he's a guy! Branching outttt.
I've heard everyone's concern with new contributors, about them not being reliable. Still got to see how this works out, but I'm hopeful and optimistic.
    Yayblog.
  • loose lips goes coed, who'da thought?
  • @looselips congrats! I hope all works out well with your new indie rock contributor. I'm excited to start reading/listening.
  • @Muruch
Maybe I'm conventional but what about Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon. And how about some Beatles? Sargent Peppers maybe?

I could use a female voice, got seven writers including myself (with varying levels of commitment) but all guys.

That's my yay for the day.
  • And congrats right back at you. How's that switch over to wordpress going?
