YAYBLOG! 2.0
  • Looks good.

what did you use to make it?
  • Just Photoshop CS5, Illustrator probably would have been better, but I'm more familiar with Photoshop.
  • Just noticed that we knocked down our 4 millionth pageview last week. Never would have imagined that after only 18 months in the game! Aiming for 7 mil by our 2-year anniversary at the end of July.
    Yay!
  • wow.
    congratulations. teach me your ways.
  • This is nothing a couple posts down from Jason's but metrojolt just had it's 500,000th hit in 2011.

I never though I'd see the day...and it's only mid February.
  • That's actually surprisingly high for the relatively small number of posts you have on the site. If it's accurate, that's bloody awesome! What're you using to track?
  • I like to keep it simple with 1 post a day.

Yeah I'm pretty shocked, sadly hits doesn't equal pageviews (which is just about to hit 200k for the year). Either way, I am extremely pleased.

I use slimstat via wordpress for instant feedback, but I preffer Awstats Via my Bluehost control panel because of higher level of info. Yourself?
  • Forward/Slash got longlisted for Best Music Blog in the 2011 Irish Blog Awards. It's only a longlist, but I'm chuffed seeing as I've only been blogging for 6 months!
  • Ben, I'd look into using Google Analytics or Sitemeter. "Hits" aren't exactly a measure of traffic, as they don't represent people. Instead, they're tracking everything that pings your website (yes, people included). If you've got 500k "hits" and only 200k "pageviews," you can be sure that the 500k number isn't a proper reflection of your traffic. Not that I'm trying to burst any bubbles -- 200k means you're doing more than 500 pageviews a day, which is solid.

But definitely switch to Sitemeter or Analytics -- I use both. Sitemeter is instant, Analytics is insanely detailed.

    <3 Jason
  • wait...what the hell is the difference between page views and hits? aren't both when people go to your site?
i am so bad at this web hosting stuff...
  • @Jason

Sitemeter looks to be closed (at least I think it is).

I also think you're math is a bit off. 200,000/[ 6(weeks in 2001)*7(days a week)]=much more than 500, its 4,762 actually. January started lower than this, and February has moved higher.

With that said, my Slimstat says I'm getting around 2,000 daily this week, while awstat is saying closer to 10,000. I always wondered where the discrepancy came from. I always assumed because of my caching plugin. Ideas?

My #views doesn't reallly matter to me, but I would like to know what it actually is. Also I want to give an accurate number to press people who ask.

    @LL

To be honest I don't have a great understanding but I think this can help : http://www.opentracker.net/article/hits-or-pageviews
  • Let's take this to another thread. Promoting blog, perhaps.
  • Last month my friend/freelance photographer Coble reviewed ">an Empires gig for me. The band loved the photos so much, they asked if they could use them in their press release. We had no idea they'd end up on the Rolling Stone site! :D Empires are 1 of 16 bands up for a Rolling Stone cover, recording contract and slot at Bonaroo. Vote for/rate them and see 2 of Coble's pics at Rolling Stone. We're all very excited. :)
  • really cool muruch. i can see why those got picked up by rolling stone--there are some GREAT shots.
  • I got profiled in the Evening Standard today and offered my thoughts on music blogging. Quite chuffed.

Link, perhaps?  Couldn't find the article myself.
  • @Tim... awesome!  Yeah, let's see it!
  • Wow! I'm happy if I hit 200+ pageviews a day. @Ben and @Jason: Nicely done! Really, great job guys.
  • They still haven't put the article online for some reason, but if you don't mind blurry photos of the column...
  • Today, Sounds Good to Me Too featured LOOSE L!PS in their A-Z guide to music blogs.

I really can't believe it.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Also: Tim I just read that article.  Had to crane my neck completely to the side to do so, but it was worth it.  It was very, very well said.  I respect your views and advice.  Congratulations on the interview.
  • Yay or nay? What the fuck is going on over at tsururadio?
  • Well the Paper Crane Collective is obviously one big huge fucking YAY YAY YAY!
  • paper crane collective?  sounds like a bunch of commies to me....  probably should call them in.
  • Oh man... no idea why you posted that, but if the title of the track is indicative of the meaning behind it, lol, you couldn't be more wrong.
  • getting warmer....
  • Hit my 30,000th view just coming up to the end of my 6th month blogging.

I know most of the blogs here are far past that, but I'm still happy!
  • YAY, Driggers is a Music Bloggerin', Nudie Photoerin' MotherFucking God!!!!

Wasn't this the same thing that dude Will Hines tried to do?  Sounds like an ok idea, I guess.  But for it to be "original" it needs to be something different than just an aggregation of other's blog posts.  Your description implies that it will be more than that (sort of). There's got to be some value added or it's kind of worthless. Just another music blog, if not.

I know, I know - it's all about the Tsurunation, Paper Crane Collective huggable, loving, all encompassing music lover's community.  That's good.  Personally though, I hate communities especially huggable, loving ones.  Which begs the question why I'm even here?

Well, now you've got more time to producing semi-porn Nudiezines!  There are legions of sick fucks in this world that love porn (semi or not).  So chances are you could become the next Larry Flynt?

Aw shit, just ignore me, I'm jealous that's all. Not really trying to rain on your parade. Just a jealous loser. Never had it, never will.

Though, for some reason, you do kind of remind me of this guy:

"I'm not trying to be funny. I just want to play with their heads."

    - Andy Kaufman

If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon

If you believed there's nothing up his sleeve, then nothing is cool

  • #PPC #PCC is all about original content. That's why you can grab, cuddle, fold and set sail with it.
  • Tim, I'm not a Twitter dude.  Did you mean #PCC, or were you just messing with my messy brain?

That's good for sure.  Original content will have appeal and draw in new folks.  Plus, it will encourage people to visit the individual blogs in the PCC especially if they connect with the blogger.

I may be wrong but it sounds to me different than what Hines was doing.  I forget the name of his setup.  But again I may be wrong but thought his was just aggregating other blogger's posts.  If PCC stays to its "Driggers inspired mission statement" and provides something original/unique then fuck I may even check it out......   Scary thought, drinking the kool-aid.
  • I'm the Hugh Hefner of zines!

As for your posts, I have no idea if you love or hate me or the site, think I'm a pornographer or what...  *shrug*  But yeah, we are doing something a little different than Strangers In Stereo. Think of it as community radio in blog form, if you will.  Or don't.   It's fun, it's not just another blog, its a bunch of bloggers with a time slot to do whatever they want, I'm just the owner & a contributor.  Ari is our new editor-in-chief.  TsuruBride (of course) is our CFO...

It's worth a go. We may fail miserably, but some of my failures were the most fun & best things I have ever done.

As for Andy Kaufman, I've been compared to better and worse... I'll take it!
  • *boh*

  • lost me again there, David.
  • well... my yayblog ended awkwardly, eh?

No don't think so.  It just pointed out what a dick I am.  Plus, seriously - who the fuck is gonna give a shit about my asswipe comments?  Nobody.

Looks like the PCC is kickin' ass.  Specially liked the WLFY post and your mixtape.  For what it's worth.

    Like I said above:

"Aw shit, just ignore me, I'm jealous that's all. Not really trying to rain on your parade. Just a jealous loser. Never had it, never will."
  • Just hit 600 pageviews over a 7 month period.  That's approximately 85 pageviews/month.  Or 3 pageviews/day.  My biggest day was 20 pageviews when I reblogged three posts from another blog.  200 out of 600 pageviews over the 7 month period was from me scanning thru my blog.

So it's a HUGE YAY BLOG FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a great idea, I imagine each blogger only posting once a week or so will make for huge quality posts! Good luck with it!
  • Thanks /dublin!
  • Hey, not really yayblog, but more like yaybaby. Baby is auctioning off her kitsune (fox) clutch to raise money for Japan. All of the winning bid will go toward helping Japan & she is going to match the winning bid!  AND... free shipping.
