Apple Vs. Google: Oh, It's On!
  • Sony Xperia SX: hands-on

Sony's Xperia SX, which was announced last week
for release in Japan, is in many ways the most likable handset we've
seen from the company's mobile reboot. It's a tiny phone with a 3.7-inch
    960 x 540 display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera,
LTE support via Docomo's Xi network, and an array of features from 1seg
TV to Osaifu Keitai NFC. Sony has done a pretty amazing job fitting
everything into such a diminutive frame (the phone is 9.4mm thick and
weighs just 95g), but the design remains as sleek and minimal as the Xperia S.

This is smaller and lighter than iPhone S4 by A LOT. With bigger screen, LTE,NFC, 1seg, and what not (see verge video)..This is what iphone 5 suppose to look like. I don't see how iphone S4 can even move after august. not in a million year apple can cram that many features. They barely apple to put dual cores in iPad3. Apple will never catch up engineering wise.  (Probably they still dabble with that liquid metal and in-cell screen and can't get it to work )  ...

     Litigation timeeeeee ........

    Update:

  • . The GX is amazing. It's everything that people have been working on, except this one is already a product. if this is backed by Samsung size manufacturing floor, it will be on global top chart. But Sony doesn't have big manufacturing capacity. Plus their high end product is too insanely complicated to produce in China. .. so

I bet Apple lawyers are panicking and already preparing to sue Sony to stop this product ... lol.

Intel Lava XOLO Android smartphone hands-on with benchmark

One of the most unassuming pieces of hardware
on the market that we happened upon this month was certainly Intel’s
first Medfield-toting Android: the Lava XOLO. This smartphone was
announced back a the tail end of April of this year and represents
Intel’s first production Android smartphone available on the mobile
market, toting its own Intel Medfield 1.6 GHz single-core Atom Z2460
    processor and a 4.03-inch 1024 x 600 pixel resolution display – is this
    your next undercover powerhouse device?

Yeah well intel, that's not going to sell, is it?

Gartner has released its Q1 mobile sales stats. Here are the key points:
    • Mobile handset sales actually fell 2% globally in Q1 (year over year), from 428 million units to 419 million units. This was the result of weakness in Asia.
    • Smartphone sales continue to surge, growing 45% year over year from 99 million units to 144 million. Smartphone sales now account for 34% of the global handset market.
    • Android's market share of smartphone operating systems also continued to surge, hitting 56%. Apple, meanwhile, is the next-closest, with 33%. Android is so fragmented,
however--with each smartphone type and vendor often having different
characteristics--that this market share lead is not helping
Google/Android gain ground against Apple in the platform war.
    • Together, Apple and Android now have a staggering 88% of the platform market.
    • In smartphones, it's now clearly a two-horse race between Apple and Samsung.
Apple sold 33 million units in the quarter, up nearly 100% from 17
million last year. Samsung sold 38 million. The next-closest was Nokia, with 13 million. Research in Motion sold only 9 million.

It's gartner. Only idiot reads their conclusion. (every years they concluded that Windows phone will win. According to them WM would have taken over the globe 7 times over already by now.)

Plus, I am putting my shiny dime, ZTE, Huawei, and Sony will climb the global chart overnight. While Apple implodes in the next 3-5 years. Apple is pretty obvious, since their hardware is further and further behind with each subsequent Android new releases. They simply aren't that good at engineerring, and zero ability to manufacture anything. Their key strength is marketing and keeping the fan boy cult alive.

Apple is the new Amiga... lol.

  • A trio of screen suppliers are reportedly gearing up to begin
production of 4-inch displays for Apple's next iPhone as soon as next
month, putting the device on track for a fall launch.

LG Display, Sharp, and Japan Display Inc. have all been tapped to build
the new, larger screens for Apple, and they will be built as quickly as
    June, according to Reuters.
That means production of the sixth-generation iPhone could begin as
soon as August — just in time for the anticipated fall launch.

    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/12/05/16/4_screens_for_apples_next_iphone_will_be_built_as_soon_as_june.html

I guess no OLED yet. lol. and definitely not in-cell touch screen.  The 4" iphone 5 will be basically Sony Xperia SX.  And it won't reach customer until October-ish.  By the time iphone 5 launches. Android 5.0, on Tegra 3+, and new qualcomm chip will be ready.

    duhh........ even further behind.
  • In continuation of our earlier post – we can now (un)officially
confirm that the FULL launch of the HTC EVO 4G LTE is now officially
delayed. This is very preliminary, however, as of 11PM tonight, we can
    report:

    FULL Launch DELAY
    1. No pre-orders will be shipped
    2. No HTC EVO 4G LTE devices will be sold in stores on 5/18
    3. Internal conversations put the launch delay at least 10 days out, however that’s up to customs and a court right now
PLEASE NOTE: This can and likely will
change over the next 12-24 hours, but as of right now, that is the
status. We will know more after 10AM on Wednesday, and I’ll try to post
an update as soon as I can after that

    .

The official response is “The launch of HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed
due to a standard an issue with U.S. Customs”. see the previous post for
more details, but basically Apple is claiming that the shipments from
HTC contain software/features that violate a patent it holds.

U.S. Customs routinely inspects International Trade Commission (ITC) exculsion shipments.

HTC is working closely with U.S. Customs to secure approval.

    Here’s the official responses:

If customers inquire about the delay, share the following reactively:

Q: What response do we provide customers about HTC EVO 4G LTE availability?

A: The U.S. availability of the HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed. HTC is
working to resolve this issue and appreciates your patience as they work
to get products into Sprint channels.

isn’t outdated by any means, but we wish Sharp had been able to put

even running Gingerbread the 1.2GHz OMAP processor feels reasonably
    snappy. The 4.5-inch 3D 720p (1280 x 720) LCD display looks fantastic,

iPhone 5 Expected to Fire Up Mobile Market

Worldwide sales of mobile phones saw a 2 percent decline from the first
quarter of 2011 due to a slowdown in demand from the Asia/Pacific
region, but the launch of the Apple iPhone 5 will help drive a stronger
second half of the year in Western Europe and North America, according
    to Gartner.
The report also notes that Apple's sales in China were "particularly
strong" despite people holding of sales in the hope of an iPhone 5.

As a whole the market saw a decline, notes the Gartner report:
"Worldwide sales of mobile phones to end users reached 419.1 million
units in the first quarter of 2012, a 2 percent decline from the first
    quarter of 2011."

    Asian Sales Drop

The drop in sales was partly a result of the downturn in Asian markets.
"We were not expecting a slowdown in Asia," Gartner analyst Anshul Gupta
said in a statement. "China is usually a particularly big market in the
first quarter, with the Chinese New Year normally leading to a sales
boom. But this year consumers have held off upgrading, waiting for other
high end devices, like the new Apple iPhone."

  • letter to Apple posted on the XDA Front Page.

    Redefining concepts and ideas is not what makes a company great;
coming up with new concepts is. HTC and other major OEMS have often been
in the vanguard by innovating with their products, adding new features,
rethinking, and just putting concepts out there to imagine their
possibilities. Your last innovations and only major contributions to the
world of mobile technology were the inclusion of capacitive multi-touch
gestures and an accelerometer in mobile devices, and these were with
the original iPhone back in 2007. For that and only that, I give you
credit. All the newer models of virtually every product you sell have
been remakes of previous technology—perhaps a little thinner and a
little faster, but all in all, minor changes.

It is because of companies like yours that technology is not further
today than where it currently is. You are so adamant in protecting
something that you didn’t even invent that you are holding back future
innovation. The spirit and basic concepts of engineering are completely
missing from your business models. Courtesy of the Accreditation Board
    for Engineering and Technology:

    .

Apple, you are simply a disgrace to the world of technology and to
engineering in general. I feel ashamed of being called an engineer in a
world where your company roams around freely without even following the
most basic of the field’s concepts—a world where the law and justice are
blind to the fact that your actions are hindering humanity’s
advancement. While I understand that there is nothing wrong with making
money, there is something very wrong with replacing engineering with
    greed.

Uh oh, the right people start chiming in. I wouldn't be on the wrong side of line against XDA if there is internet tech skirmish. They are the most capable group on smartphone scene. I'll put my money on them any time against entire apple engineering crew.

PS. Apple is Fashionable consumer electronic company, not an engineering outfit. Engineering outfit is something like Asus or Samsung. crazy high tech stuff with each release. Apple is about glowing fruit logo, rounded corner and transparent icon. iPad3 is total laughing stock with gigantic cpu die like that.

If you can't innovate, litigate ... Apple's motto.
  • Android over 50% of smartphone sales as Nokia and RIM feel strain

Android's share of the UK market grew from 44.6% in the 12 weeks to
    mid-April 2011 to 50.1%. Apple's grew faster, from 18.6% to 30%, and
Sunnebo suggested that it could be well-positioned for future
challenges: "Rich new content and features are a big driver for
consumers looking to trade up. However, convincing users to switch
brands requires an emphasis on the user experience – an area in which
Apple excels. Consumers have come to expect top-end hardware, and
manufacturers are responding with innovative software, good services and
    exclusive content partnerships."

Some of the ComTech data hints
at increased price sensitivity in parts of the Eurozone such as Spain,
where Android has hit a 72% share. But its dominance is emphasised by
the fact that it is approaching or above 50% share in every country
    surveyed by the company.

    China meanwhile is becoming increasingly
important: the rollout there of smartphones by a brace of local and
regional makers including Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, Yulong and TCL
Communication is expected to drive sales there. For Apple, it became its
second-largest market, after the US, with more than 5m units shipped
from a combination of official and unofficial distributors.

  • WoA tablet PCs struggling to hit price targets

WoA (Windows on ARM) tablet PCs, based on estimated general BOM costs of US$300-350 for 10-inch tablet PCs and US$150-200 for 7-inch models, are struggling to meet vendors' price targets for competition against Apple and Amazon's tablet PC products because of the additional US$90-100 fee for Windows 8, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Meanwhile, since the ARM version of Windows 8 will not include backward support for software designed for existing Windows versions, while the number of Windows 8-based apps is expected to be limited initially, the sources expect the drawbacks will mean Windows 8 products will face strong challenges from Android and iOS-based tablet PCs.

Tizen-based devices to appear in 2H12

Intel and Samsung Electronics' co-developed operating system Tizen is expected to be released in late June with Tizen-based devices such as smartphones, netbooks and in-vehicle infotainment to appear in the second half of 2012, according to sources from PC players.

Taiwan-based players including Acer, Asustek Computer and High Tech Computer (HTC) are reportedly also supporting the Tizen project with HTC already planning Tizen-based products.

Asustek and Acer are also set to launch Tizen-based netbooks before the end of the third quarter to test the water, and are mainly targeting emerging markets.

  • Android

As noted by Dominic Sunnebo, Kantar’s global consumer insight
director, when it launched in May, the HTC One X became one of Britain’s
ten best-selling smartphones within one week. Meanwhile, the release of
the Sony Xperia S and the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S3 also
added to a surge of interest from consumers looking for their next
    upgrade.

Yet, despite the release of the Xperia S, Sony’s share continued to
dwindle taking just 10.4 per cent of Android sales over the 12 weeks to
mid-April, while LG holds less than one per cent. Both manufacturers
have struggled to convince their existing featurephone consumers to
switch to their smartphone ranges, with only 11 per cent of Sony
featurephone users trading up to one of the firm’s smartphones over the
past year. This figure is even lower for LG at just four per cent,
    Sunnebo said.

But there is some good news for the vendors, with Kantar expecting
some big changes in manufacturer market shares over the coming months,
with almost 22 million consumers aged 13+ changing their mobile device
and almost 80 per cent upgrading to a smartphone.

The research suggests that Android’s stronghold is now becoming more
prevalent across Europe, particularly in Spain where it holds 72.3 per
cent of the market with year-on-year growth of 39.5 per cent.

With smartphone penetration in the UK at 53.1 per cent, the pool of
featurephone users left to trade up is beginning to diminish, which
according to Sunnebo, means smartphone manufacturers need to step up
their game and find ways of stealing consumers from their competitors.

    http://www.telecoms.com/44334/android-continues-to-dominate-smartphones/

(see the chart in links. It shows Apple european big slides... Spain, Italy, Germany... France soon. Symbian is experiencing total collapse.)

Microsoft's smartphone market share tumbles 27%. Will Windows Phone ever gain traction?

    Gartner found that
in the first quarter of 2012, Microsoft smartphones had a worldwide
    1.9% market share, compared to 2.6% a year previously. That's a 27%
drop. Keep in mind that those numbers include both Windows Phone and
various Microsoft smartphone OS predecessors, so it doesn't mean that
Windows Phone's market share has dropped. However, that's not really the
point. If people are giving up an old Microsoft smartphone OS, and
switching to Android or iOS rather than Windows Phone, it's a failure.

  • HTC One X camera is crazy fast (self.Android)

    I
just stopped in at the AT&T store over lunch and tried the HTC One X
camera. I knew it would be responsive but that thing is crazy fast.
Touch the on-screen button and the picture is taken immediately.

I compared it to my Rezound which was a little slower to take the
picture, still had to focus after I clicked the button, and needed a
couple seconds after the picture was taken to be ready for the next.

On the One X, I touched the button and it was ready to take another
picture. Hold the button down and it just started clicking away to its
    heart's content.

    That camera is sweet.

  • Can't get enough of this phone design..  very sleek.

  • Steve Kondik
     -  Public
Opinions below are not that of my employer!

I finally got my hands on the "mostly final" version of the Galaxy SIII
today and can finally talk about it! I feel compelled to say that this
thing is just great. It's sleek and thin, insanely fast, and just sexy
to look at (if you find gadgets sexy that is). I'm not going to talk
specs, you can look those up if you want. I'll just mention the pluses
    and minuses.

    1. Industrial design. It's smooth and sleek. The
screen is huge. It's thinner than anything else you can buy. It does not
have the on-screen navigation like the Galaxy Nexus, instead it has a
menu, back, and hard home key. I didn't like that at first, but it's
great for taking pictures and holding the phone in landscape mode.

    2. Smart Stay. Probably my favorite feature. When the phone is about to
time out and turn off the display while you are reading, the camera will
snap a picture (with zero shutter lag) and do a face-detect. If it
finds a face, it stays awake. It works brilliantly.

    3. Gyroscope.
Samsung did some great stuff that detects certain gestures with the
gyro. This has been on other devices but is even better on the GS3. When
you are scrolling a list, you can double-tap the top of the phone to
    jump back to the top.

    4. Camera. It's an 8MP (rear, 2MP front),
zero-shutter-lag camera. It's what we wanted on the Galaxy Nexus but
didn't quite get. The stock camera app is really great and has tons of
hipster effects, HDR, touch focus/zoom, burst shot (hold button for
    consecutive snaps), and panorama.

    5. HOLY CRAP, it's fast.
Depending on where you get your device the chipset may be different, but
the US model is no slouch. There's almost no jank in the display, it's
super smooth. For you people who know how long it takes to "adb push" a
full CM ROM over to /sdcard/, you'll be happy to know that it just takes
a couple of seconds. The I/O bandwidth seems to be far and beyond any
    other device I've used.

    6. Lock screen. The water-trail lockscreen is great, and very functional.

    There
are things I would do differently if I were in charge of the project of
course (ohai CM9) , but I think we did a great job (OK, so maybe I only
fixed a couple of bugs, I am just fanboying everyone else who was
    involved).

The bad- it's still carrier-branded in the US and
comes with all the baggage that's involved. I like my technology to have
    a lot less fine print.

It's a solid piece of engineering and
definitely pushes the state-of-the-art forward, considering that this
will end up in the hands of a huge amount of people. I hope that the US
market will be able to break away from the current subsidy model at some
point (ohai Google) but if that's what you are out for, it's a great
    choice.

  • VIA APC: A $49 Android computer with an ARM11 CPU

    VIA APC

The APC is meant for use as a desktop PC, but it’s awfully tiny, measuring just 6.7″ x 3.3″.

Under the hood the APC is powered by a VIA WonderMedia 8750
    800 MHz ARM11 processor, 512MB of DDR3 memory, and 2GB of flash
storage. The chip supports 1080p HD video playback, H.264 video
encoding, and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics.

The chipset is comparable to what you get with a Raspberry Pi. It’s
not exactly a state of the art processor and won’t be able to compete
with the fastest chips available today from NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Samsung,
or Texas Instruments. It’s not even the fastest mobile chip from VIA. But it should be enough to provide a decent Android 2.3 experience.

  • Sony to release Hayabusa LT29i in second half

    image

Sony Xperia GX smartphone has Xperia Ion like hardware inside. It
features a 4.6 inch touchscreen display and houses a dual core 1.5 GHz
Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processor. By default the display supports
1280 x 720 pixel resolution and features a Mobile Bravia engine for
better visuals. This smartphone runs Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.

As of now, there is no clarity on whether the LT29i Hayabusa will
have a 13.2 megapixel rear camera, same as the Xperia GX, or not. The
other hardware features will most likely remain the same. Sony Mobile
LT29i Hayabusa will feature a 2200 mAh battery, which would be good for
long runtime. By default, the battery will come with 32 GB on-board
storage and will also feature a micro SD card slot.

  • I was an Android user for years and still have several Android devices.
But last October I bought an iPhone 4S and I’m glad I did. I remember
the exact date I bought it, because it was the last time Apple updated
the iPhone. Unlike Android devices, there is only one new iPhone and one
new iPad a year. That doesn’t offer a lot of choice but it does make
    things simpler.

Size also matters with phones, and sometimes bigger is indeed better.
If you’re using your phone to watch video or read eBooks than having a
5.3 inch Galaxy Note might be perfect.

The fragmentation of hardware makes it harder to get everyone using
the latest operating system. Unlike PCs, users can’t just upgrade an
operating system at will. Users have to wait for their carrier to
release an upgrade, and that can take forever. Even new phones are
coming out with older Android versions with no clear update path. It’s
also harder to app developers, not only because of the diversity of
operating system versions but also hardware differences, including so
    many screen sizes.

I always wonder about this type of apple fan (aka. I was a huge android user, but now apple..no really, really...)

when he talks about "fragmentation" what exact app  does he find he can't use? (he couldn't possibly talking about about some cutting edge weird emulators, or strange experimental camera app. Or  play "tegra 3 only app on $40 pre paid phone) The rest are DRM/exclusive brand apps.

seriously, is he a developer ? cause for general users all simple "text"/angry bird app run just fine everywhere. I mean finding 1.6 era only apps that don't work on 4.4 is nearly impossible ...

If he insists some minor imperfection on android (stretched out screen, blurry fonts, or very early pre 2.1 goes all wonky on 4.0), then I want to know what's his opinion about iphone vs. ipad apps. (some of iphone apps aren't working right on ipad either, if not unavailable at all)

don't get me started with  ...oh 3.5 inch iphone/size/hi-res are perfeeeeeeect..  (until these idiots see 4" apple screen then it's the new "perfect size". Except by now android has covered every screen sizes from 3.2" to 5.3". ..

I can't wait until Xperia SX comes out globally and use it as brawl argument. (the phone has bigger screen, more powerful processor, multiple radio, replaceable battery, flash, standard plus...AND STIL smaller, lighter than iphone 5 ... )

And I hope apple has to create odd screen resolutions/size just so they don't get their ass sued for copying android various standard sizes. Maybe they should adopt Palm OS "square" screen lol.
  • Over One Third Of iPad-Only Apps Are Games (And More Stats)

It’s still early days, but app store analytics company Distimo
is already diving into the App Store for iPad, gathering some data and
analyzing the results. More specifically, the startup has compared some
preliminary data for iPad-only applications across multiple categories
in the App Store with its findings on iPhone apps.

Distimo tracked 2,385 unique iPad applications in the marketplace as
of 6 April, which is significantly less than the 3,000+ apps Mobclix accounted for on April 4. Perhaps Mobclix
counted the applications in the App Store that were available for both
iPhone and iPad, while Distimo only looked at iPad-exclusive apps, which
would explain the difference (we’re awaiting a response from Mobclix to
learn more about their counting methodology).

I wonder what that Forbes dumbass is saying now..apple "fragmentation" is even WORST. it only has 2 devices done by their own engineers and already fragmenting like crazy.

  • New Part Leaks Include Taller iPod Touch Front Panel, 'iPhone 5' Cameras

In line with today's claims of taller iPhone prototypes
with 3.95-inch displays, one of our sources has provided us with images
of what are claimed to be new next-generation iOS device parts being
carried by a supplier. The most significant of these parts is a claimed
front panel from the next-generation iPod touch, with the supplier
claiming that the display would be taller than the current model and
that the opening in the front panel measures 4.1 inches diagonally.

  • Everything
you say to Siri is sent to Apple, analyzed and stored. Personal
information relating to your Siri query is also sent. And Apple reserves
the right to share this information with partners and related services.

Siri also collects “User Data” that it says gives it more context for
your commands, like what you mean by “Call Dad.” This information can
    be pretty wide-ranging:

    • The names of your address book contacts, their nicknames, and their relationship with you (for example, “my dad”, or “work”)
    • Your first name and nickname
    • Labels you assign to your email accounts (for example, “My Home Email”)
    • Names of songs and playlists in your collection

This data can be really personal, like if you ask Siri, "where is the nearest abortion clinic?"
And once Voice Input Data and User Data is collected, Apple reserves
the right to share it with “Apple’s partners who are providing related
    services to Apple.”

  • Google v. Oracle: no patent infringement found

Ars correspondent Joe Mullin reports that a verdict has been reached in the patent phase of the Google v. Oracle
case. In an e-mail from court, Mullin writes: "Google WINS—no
infringement of 104 patent, no infringement of 520 patent." The damages
phase, as it relates to patents, will apparently not happen.

Ars will continue to update posts on the situation and provide a fuller report from the courthouse soon.

  • Google Acquires Design Team Mike and Maaike, the Folks That Brought You the G1

    image

While Google was busy sealing its acquisition of Motorola Mobility the
company was also making a silent purchase of a firm that had a major
hand in the design of the first Android smartphone. The creative duo of
Mike Simonian and Maaike Evers has now officially come full circle with
Google and its Android platform; the company, Mike and Maaike, was
recently one of Google’s latest acquisitions.

“We have recently begun working within Google to help build an industrial design team for Android,” Maaike Evers, told FastCoDesign in
a recent interview. The assembly of a new Android design team suggests
that Google is looking to produce a new breed of Android devices. ”For
centuries, we controlled our machines with levers, then knobs, then
buttons, and finally displays on the machines themselves,”
Simonian told Co.Design. “Just about every product category is ripe for substantial change.”

  • Sony to ship in-cell touch panels for next-generation iPhone, say sources

Sony is likely to become one of the in-cell touch panel suppliers for Apple's next-generation iPhone, which is expected to be launched in September or October, according to industry sources.

LG Display, Toshiba Mobile Display (TMD) and Sharp have been previously tapped as the three suppliers of in-cell touch panels for the new iPhone. LG Display has ramped up its yield rate to 70-80%, and TMD is expected to enter mass production as scheduled, said the sources, adding that Sharp has been slow with regard to improving its yield rate, giving Sony a chance to also enter the supply chain.

The sources also indicated that Sony shipped 50,000 units of 4-inch in-cell touch panels to HTC for product development in the second half of 2011 during which Sony claimed that the yield rate for the in-cell panel production had reached 70%.

Sony will begin volume production of in-cell touch panels for the new iPhone at the end of May, revealed the sources.

  • Samsung nearly doubles profit, sells more smartphones than Apple

For awhile, no one could ever touch Apple’s
magnificent record of success in the smartphone market. The Cupertino
company was once the only manufacturer that sold more smartphones in a
single quarter than rivals did over the entire year. However, that time
has definitely passed with Samsung now selling more smartphones than Apple in a single quarter for a second time
    – and by a higher margin no less. With such smartphone success, the
profits naturally follow, and Samsung did quite well in that department
too, though it’s not quite at Apple’s level just yet.

    Profit explodes

In total over Q1 2012, Samsung managed an incredible $5.16 billion in operating profit. This figure is amazing, not just because it occurred during the typically slower post-Xmas period, but also because it represented a 98% increase over Samsung’s Q1 profit the previous year.
And, just as with Apple, the smartphone business played a huge part in
reaping these financial whirlwinds. To be exact, Samsung’s mobile
division accounted for a whopping 73% of the company’s profits.

    44.5mil smartphones shipped

Considering that Samsung managed to ship 44.5
million smartphones the past quarter (nearly ten million more than
Apple), the profit figures shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise. Neither
should the fact that Samsung outsold Apple, since instead of just
selling one single smartphone model, Samsung sells many, including the
particularly successful Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note.

    http://news.idealo.co.uk/news/14028/samsung-nearly-doubles-profit-sells-more-smartphones-than-apple.html

According to Wall street irrational bubble, Samsung should worth anywhere near a million trillion and gabajillion billion. (seriously, unlike Apple, samsung makes every single component in their phone, on top of having another line of OS.)

  • Apple Falls Out of Top Five in China’s 3G Smartphone Market

    http://micgadget.com/26354/apple-falls-out-of-top-five-in-chinas-3g-smartphone-market/

China market: 4 local vendors amid top-5 in 3G smartphone market in April

In the China market, Samsung Electronics recorded the largest market share of 22.75% for 3G smartphones in April 2012, followed by four China-based vendors -- Coolpad with 11.17%, Huawei with 10.92%, Lenovo with 10.21% and ZTE with 9.28%, China Economic Net cited China-based Sino Market Research as indicating.

Other international vendors' market shares were 8.52% for Apple, 4.14% for Motorola Mobility, 3.95% for Nokia and 2.82% for HTC, the report indicated.

The increased market occupation by China-based vendors was mainly due to selling of their entry- to mid-level 3G smartphone models through contract-bundled sales by China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, the report said.

These photos also clearly show some of the features of the next-generation iPhone. The long rumored smaller dock connector
is present, the earphone jack has been moved to the bottom corner of
the device (the first time Apple has done this on one of their
smartphones), the speaker grills have been redesigned, and there is a
new opening between the camera lens and the LED flash. We’re not sure
what this opening is, but it is possible that Apple is moving the second
microphone (Apple started shipping two microphones with the iPhone 4)
to the back for improved audio capture during video recording.
