I think a rehash of VAIO P but with Android, probably detachable keyboard would be awesome. VAIO P didn't sell because it was slow and useless. Windows is too bloated for ultra portable. But not Android.

Hey it even looks good on girl with big boobs...

  • According to IDC, Android and iOS now represent 85% of the 152
million smartphones sold in Q2 2012, globally. But while the iPhone kept
growing in raw numbers, it couldn’t keep up with Android, and its
market share slipped from 18.8% to 16.9%.  The iPhone has always been
around 20% market share or lower globally, and with the upcoming iPhone
coming out soon, it’s not that surprising that its sales would fall.

    On
the other hand, Android has simply kept on growing, and its global
market share is inching closer towards passing the 70% mark, now being
at 68.1%. It doesn’t seem like there’s anything stopping Android from
going past the 80% mark either, seeing how it’s already reached that in China,
and my guess is it’s going to stop growing in market share around that
point, which is almost as big as Windows’ market share in PC market. By
then, Android would have reached its goal of becoming the “Windows of
    PC’s”.

  • Note to Judge Koh: Pics of the Samsung Epic Touch 4G With and Without the Google Search Box

The Verge reports on another scuffle between the judge in Apple v. Samsung, the Hon. Lucy Koh, and the Samsung lawyers:

Things at Apple v. Samsung kicked off with a bang this morning, as
Samsung accused Apple of tampering with the icon layout of one of its
phones to look more like the iPhone. At issue is a photograph of the
Epic Touch 4G that Apple presented which shows an icon layout that
closely mirrors that of the iPhone. Samsung objected, saying that it
noticed yesterday that the phone doesn't represent the state of the Epic
4G Touch out of the box. Samsung presented its own photo — which its
attorneys said had been taken last night — which featured a different
layout with a larger number of homescreens.

Judge Koh, whose temper has been growing increasingly short with both
parties, took Samsung's legal team to task, actually questioning whether
Samsung's photo was legitimate. She pointed out the Samsung's image
didn't feature the Google search widget — something the company's
attorneys said was present on the device out of the box. "Why does your
homescreen not show the Google search box when you're telling me the
phone has the Google search box," she asked, eventually demanding to
just see the device in question herself. She then pointed out that
Samsung's image featured yesterday's date — clearly indicating that the
photo had not been taken on Sunday as alleged. Samsung's attorney
eventually admitted he misspoke about the date.

    I
think the judge may have been mistaken about what has to be on that
phone's home page, or she just has negative ideas about Samsung. Or
maybe everyone is feeling too much stress. I have three photographs to
show you from doing a simple search on the Web, three of that very phone
with no Google Search box and one with it. Apparently it varies.
Nobody is doctoring anything. It's just a lack of tech fu in this
    picture.

  • Reports: Wafer discounts, rush orders from MediaTek, Nvidia

LONDON – The supply of chips from foundries in Taiwan is being
complicated by discounting and rush orders as companies try to benefit
from more-available 40-nm silicon to win against chips design in less
    available 28-nm, according to reports.

Those discounts are being offered for the mainstream nodes at
45-nm/40-nm, at 65-nm and larger geometries, the report said. But
another report from the same publication states that two fabless chip
companies – Nvidia Corp. (Santa Clara, Calif.) and MediaTek Inc.
(Hsinchu, Taiwan) are "vigorously increasing contracts" for 40-nm
foundry capacity at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd.

Allright. now...can we have a A15 tablet already? (where is miracast? Wi-Di sucks donkey's ball)

  • btw… But if Samsung ever blows this Next Gen Lead by selling these to
Apple….. they’ll need to have their frigging heads examined. We already
know iPhone 5 will be powered by the same Exynos 4 in Galaxy SIII.
Meaning Apple’s getting a Free Ride off Samsung’s New Gate First HKMG
Patented Process Technology. After Apple’s original A6 designs with
PowerVR GPU have now been apparently dumped.

    That most likely has
something to do with Mark Papermaster (of IBM fame) getting dumped for
telling Steve Jobs, that using an External Antenna was an asinine move.
Especially since it was just to meet external design goals. But… no
problem for Papermaster, because he was quickly snapped up by AMD. Then
recently we heard all is not well in the rotten Apple filled orchards of
Cupertino. When Jim Keller (famed for AMD’s x86 64bit Intel beating
chips) also abandoned Apple’s Garden Walls of Closed Proprietary Madness
for AMD. After having to just take Samsung’s Hummingbird design,
customize it for iOS, re-cap and re-brand them into Apple’s A Series

  • It’s just one sentence in a short report from Digitimes, whose batting average as a prognosticator is better than its detractors assert, given the context of the rumors and industry insider scuttlebutt that it largely traffics in. However the Taiwanese cite does bat well below 1,000 in terms of predictive accuracy, and I’m of a mind that Digitimes reporters Daniel Shen and Steve Shen’s comment that “Apple is also expected to release its next-generation iPhone built on Samsung’s Exynos 4 quad-core processor in the second half, heating up competition in the segment” — attributed to the customary unnamed “sources” — is probably a bolder claim than the evidence so far supports.

The contextual argument, that Apple needs to compete with new quad-core powered smartphone competition, some of it already reaching customers and more to come when Qualcomm ramps up volume production of its quad-core integrated platform solutions in the second half of 2012, enabling more vendors to launch quad-core powered handsets.

A complicating factor for Apple will be whether to launch its quad-core A6 CPU in an iPhone, or hold it back as a marquee new feature of the iPad 4 that is widely anticipated for release around March, 2013. I had been persuaded that an iPad4 launch of the A6 CPU has the most logical probity. Read More

  • Apple vs. Samsung trial suddenly frozen in South Korea

A South Korean court has put Apple vs. Samsung
on ice, prompting speculation that it will follow the lead of the
high-profile San Jose, USA trial as the Korean company fights against
allegations of patent infringement. A ruling on two lawsuits – one filed
by Apple against Samsung, the other by Samsung against Apple – had been
expected on Friday morning local time, Korea Real Time reports,
but a surprise announcement by the Seoul Central District Court
confirmed the verdicts had been delayed for “procedural reasons.”

  • Acer Bosses Continue to Call Microsoft to Drop Surface Tablets.

Acer Group, one of the world's top PC suppliers, was among the first
to express concerns about Microsoft Corp.'s own-brand Surface media and
productivity tablets. The company still believes that Surface will
impact the whole ecosystem in the world and therefore Microsoft should
think twice. Moreover, Acer may reconsider its strategies going forward
in regards of Windows and even thinks about alternatives.

“We have said [to Microsoft] think it over. Think twice. It will
create a huge negative impact for the ecosystem and other brands may
take a negative reaction. It is not something you are good at so please
think twice,” said JT Wang, the chairman of Acer, in an interview with Financial Times.

Microsoft itself has admitted in a filing with the Securities and
Exchange commission (SEC) that its forthcoming Surface media and
productivity tablets will compete against third-party slate-type
products that use Windows 8 operating system, which may lower the
commitment of the company's partners to the platform.

“If Microsoft is going to do hardware business, what should we do?
Should we still rely on Microsoft, or should we find other
alternatives?,” said Campbell Kan, the president for personal computer
    global operations at Acer.

  • Nvidia: Android tablets have arrived

SAN FRANCISCO—Google Inc.'s Nexus 7 tablet is not a less expensive alternative to Apple Inc.'s iPad, but the best realization yet of a tablet with the potential to tap the millions of Android users worldwide, according to Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of chip maker Nvidia Corp.

"The Nexus 7's value proposition is not to be a cheaper iPad," Huang said. "It's to be a peripheral or a companion device for someone who is really invested in the Android operating system."

Previous Android tablets have failed to catch on in a major way. But Huang said the Nexus 7 is the first to make it really easy for Android users to enjoy all of the content and applications they have invested in for their Android smartphones on a device with a larger, high-resolution screen.

"I think it's taken this long to really build a platform that adds value to Android users," Huang said. "It's not an alternative to the iPad—it's really a device that enhances the user experience for someone who is an Android user. And there happens to be hundreds of millions of Android users."

Nvidia rides the Kepler wave, proves bean counters wrong

In the quarter, Nvidia booked $1.04bn in sales, up 12.9 per cent, and a
boost in yields for 28nm chips from fab partner Taiwan Semiconductor
Manufacturing Corp was a big part of that bump as Kepler-based GPUs for
notebooks based on Intel's "Ivy Bridge" processors took off in the
quarter now that supplies are not as constrained as they were earlier in
the year. Better 28 nanometer yields from TSMC helped boost gross
margins at Nvidia by 1.7 points to 51.8 per cent, and operating income
    nearly doubled to $119m.

The improving yields on 28 nanometer processes, which are used to
make the Kepler GPUs, means that Nvidia can ramp up GeForce graphics
cards aimed at gamers just as a slew of new games are coming out in the
second half of the year. Nvidia said that it estimated that 80 per cent
of gamers are currently using graphics cards that are below the specs
    for these upcoming video games.

All told, Nvidia sold $668.3m in GPUs for notebooks and desktops in
the second quarter, up 15.3 per cent from the year ago period, with
growth for both types of PCs. That number also includes license revenue
    from Intel.

On the consumer front, the Tegra 3 ARM-based processors, which
feature integrated Nvidia graphics, also help pushed sales up in fiscal
Q2. The consumer products group at Nvidia had $179.7m in revenues in the
quarter, up 35.5 per cent, and Huang was particularly pleased that
Microsoft has chosen a Tegra 3 chip for its Surface slab running Windows
8 for RT and that Google has done the same for its Nexus 7.

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08/10/nvidia_q2_2012_numbers_quiadro_k5000/

  • Nvidia (Santa
Clara, Calif.) reported sales of $1.04 billion for the quarter ended
July 29, up 13 percent from the previous quarter and up 3 percent from
the same period of 2011. The company reported a net income in accordance
with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) of $119 million,
up 97 percent from the previous quarter, but down 21 percent from the
    year-ago quarter.

Nvidia's second quarter sales exceeded consensus analysts' expectations
of about $1.01 billion, according to Yahoo Finance. Nivida's non-GAAP
net income for the second quarter, $170.4 million or 27 cents per
diluted share, also exceed analysts' expectations of about 14 cents per
    share, according to Yahoo Finance.

Nvidia said its consumer graphics processing unit business—including
desktop, notebook, memory, and license revenue from the company's patent
cross license agreement with Intel—increased 15 percent sequentially to
reach $668.3 million. Revenue from the company's consumer products
business increased 35.5 percent sequentially to $179.7 million, Nvidia
said, mostly due to record revenue from Tegra applications processors.
  • Apple's A6 Details and Timeline Emerge

"For a CPU that hasn't seen the light of day, there's a great deal of
debate surrounding Apple's A6 and the suggestion that it may not appear
until later in 2012. The A6 is a complex bit of hardware. Rumors indicate that the chip is a quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU
built on 28nm at TSMC and utilizing 3D fabrication technology. While
the Cortex-A9 is a proven design, Apple's A6 will be one of the first
28nm chips on the market. The chip will serve as a test case for TSMC's
introduction of both 28nm gate-last technology and 3D chip stacking.
This is actually TSMC's first effort with an Apple device. The A4 and
A5 have both historically been manufactured by Samsung."

    -----------------------

A6 basically will be a current Tegra 3 die shrink...lol. primitive by next year.

    ---------------------

    http://hothardware.com/News/Apples-A6-Wont-Reach-iPad-Until-Later-in-2012/

The Linley group notes that "if Apple launches the iPad 3 in January
2012, following its usual schedule, the tablet will have to use the same
A5 processor as the current iPad 2, relying on the rumored new
high-resolution “Retina” display to drive the upgrade cycle. Apple
could then deliver a midyear iPad upgrade, which would be unusual for
the company, or it could plug the A6 into next year’s iPhone first and
then into the iPad in early 2013."

We agree with Linley's assessment that a mid-year upgrade would be
unusual and suspect that the A6 is more a test vehicle than anything
else. Apple's plans for the iPad/iPhone through 2012 are likely designed
to give the company flexibility in the event that the A6 doesn't appear
on time or deliver as promised. Given TSMC's substantial 40nm
difficulties and the inherent challenge of adopting multiple new
technologies, treating the A6 as a side bet would be the safest path.
Apple's product introductions are typically built around experiences,
whether that means a major software upgrade or better battery life
courtesy of a lower-power CPU. Given the iPhad's dominant market
position, Apple can afford to wait, tune its technology, and release an
update when it makes the most sense to do so.

  • The folks at boutique firm BlueFin Research Partners this morning opine that Samsung Electronics‘s (005930KS) is going to be ready by September to produce an “A6” processor for Apple (AAPL) for use in the next iPad at Samsung’s Austin, Texas facility.

The firm draws its conclusions based on conversations with “key semi material suppliers,” who say that Samsung is nearing completion of an upgrade of the Austin facility to 28-nanometer chip production.

Because that won’t be ready until the September, and because the
iPhone 5 is expected to ship in September or October, “we think it is
likely that it [the iPhone 5] will incorporate the same A5X
processor with quad core graphics as the recently released iPad, rather
than the 28 nm A6 processor. The A6 applications processor is likely
slated for the next generation iPad in early 2013.”

  • AMD announced that Jim Keller has left Apple
to become the corporate vice president and chief architect of AMD’s
microprocessor cores. He will be reporting directly to Chief Technology
Officer and Senior Vice President of Technology and Engineering, Mark
Papermaster, who also worked at Apple.

The co-author of the HyperTransport specification, as well as the
innovative x86-64 processor instruction set, Keller is said to have been
poached by Papermaster who left Apple in 2010, on grounds of a PR
nightmare caused by the Antennagate fiasco after the iPhone 4 launch.

It is believed that Papermaster didn’t do everything in his power to prevent the debacle.

Keller, for his part, “will lead AMD’s microprocessor core design
efforts aligned with AMD’s ambidextrous strategy with a focus on
developing both high-performance and low-power processor cores that will
be the foundation of AMD’s future products,” according to a press
release issued by the chip makers today.

“Jim is one of the most widely respected and sought-after innovators in
the industry and a very strong addition to our engineering team,”
    commented Papermaster.

“He has contributed to processing innovations that have delivered
tremendous compute advances for millions of people all over the world,
and we expect that his innovative spirit, low-power design expertise,
creativity and drive for success will help us shape our future and fuel
    our growth,” Papermaster added.

Keller’s job at Apple was to head the platform architecture group focusing on mobile products – the A-series chips.

A former staffer of PA Semi, which Apple purchased a few years ago to
make the A4, the A5, and later the A5X SoCs (system on a chip), Keller
“architected several generations of mobile processors, including the
chip families found in millions of Apple iPads, iPhones, iPods and Apple
    TVs,” says AMD.

Apple might now have to look for a replacement chip expert to continue work on the next A-series processors, the A6, the A7 etc.

Keller also worked at SiByte(R) and Broadcom as chief architect for a
line of scalable, MIPS-based network processors and, before that, he
spent several years at AMD on the design team responsible for the AMD
Athlon 64 and AMD Opteron 64 processors.

Google says it feels confident making the change because because its
existing copyright infringement reporting system generates a massive
amount of data about which sites are most frequently reported — the

still require a formal request under the existing copyright infringement
reporting system — and Google is quick to point out that those unfairly
targeted can still file counter-notices to get their content reinstated
    into search listings.

alright...it's now time to build "complain" gang...and start distributively filling up complain box to bring down rival web page...

... this phase of internet war ought to be interesting...(in other word, google is setting itself up as the juicy middle of cross fire war.)

not very bright google. you gonna get burn badly.

  • Now there is corroboratig anecdotal evidence coming out of the
woodwork: Gartner reports Western Europe desktop shipments down in Q2

Gartner reports Western Europe desktop shipments down, portable PCs up in Q2 2012Gartner reports Western Europe desktop shipments down, portable PCs up in Q2 2012

    As reported by Endgadget:

When it comes to technology and the end of a financial quarter, you can bet your wage there'll be ananalyst report or two letting you what's what. And according to Gartner's latest
estimates for Western Europe, PCs didn't fare too well in Q2 of this
year, with a 2.4 percent decrease in shipments compared with the same
    period in 2011.

  • Apple’s Feeling Europe’s Economic Crisis: ‘Essentially Flat’ Sales And A ‘Slowdown’ In Business, Says Cook

Apple often gets a lot of love in Europe, but in the last quarter
that wasn’t enough to help it against the tide of economic woe hitting
the region. In today’s Q3 earnings call,
CEO Tim Cook described sales in the region as “essentially flat to
slightly positive” — and, not unlike the wider macro-economy, “that
    really hampered our total results.”

Specifically, he noted that France, Greece and Italy were
“particularly poor”, and Germany saw “only single digital positive
growth.” Interestingly, the UK seemed immune to this situation and
posted a “solid” 13 percent growth rate.

Overall, though, the performance of more mature markets in the region
had a negative impact on the whole deal. “Western European countries
drive the revenue [in the region] so we are certainly seeing a slowdown
    in business,” he admitted.

    The results put
Europe Q3 Mac sales at 941,000, on total revenues of $8.237 billion.
That was down 10 percent on units and six percent on revenues
sequentially. Year-on-year that was growth of only two percent on unit
sales, and 16 percent on revenues. What that means is that while Europe
remained the second-highest region, after the U.S., in terms of
revenues, it showed the lowest growth of any region — not a good state
of affairs for such an important market for Apple.

  • If 24% of people who saw a Nook confused it for an iPad, and 43% thought a Galaxy Tab was an iPad...

    Doesn't this mean that
when those customers go into a store to buy the product, they will ask
for an iPad instead of the one they wanted to buy, thus making Apple
    more money?

    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/08/samsung-attacks-apples-expert-witness-over-product-similarity/

  • For this argument, Apple brought out University of Toronto Computer
Science Professor Ravin Balakrishnan, who testified that the rubber band
effect is an Apple innovation that prevents user confusion, which could
be caused when a user doesn't know where an image or document ends.

Balakrishnan reportedly testified that 21 Samsung devices violate the Apple patent.

Balakrishnan has billed Apple $500,000 for being an expert witness in nine cases, according to a Mercury News
live blog of the trial. The blog notes that Samsung attorney Kevin
Johnson got Balakrishnan to admit that it's possible to perform the
bounce effect without violating Apple's patent, although it would be
difficult. Samsung also showed video of various Samsung devices in which
the rubber band effect is not used in all applications.

talking about inane opinion. Hey maybe Apple's baby blue wallpaper is also "to prevent user confusion"..
  • Apple expert: smartphone owners are willing to pay $100 premium for features Samsung copied

    http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/10/3234453/apple-expert-smartphone-owners-100-premium-copied-samsung-trial

Hey....I wonder how much they are willing to PAY for that shitty SIRI feature.... LOLOlolol....

I mean they put advertisement all over for that useless P.O.S. feature. (and get sued for false advertisement)

Apple is willing to say anything to get more money. I bet they are willing to say...people are willing to pay hundreds for that aluminum body.  They own aluminum...plus, if the bouncy feature is $100, no wonder the rest of feature is so shitty. That's all they can think of.

    -------------------
    msl86 says:

I dare every moron who supports this “expert’s” opinion to offer a “bounce-back feature” app on the Android App Store for $35 (you can easily afford the $30 licensing fee for Apple from this fee). If this study is correct, this app would cost less than the feature is worth to users, so it should sell several million times.

And now tell me with a straight face that you REALLY think it would.
    ------------

Hey should post "double bounce" app in iStore, maybe iphone users will pay $200!!!! (man, I love to be a fucking expert working for apple. I got to say any sort of bullshit and get paid.)

    http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/10/documents-reveal-that-apple-asked-samsung-for-up-to-30-per-phone-and-40-per-tablet-for-patent-licenses/

Destroy Apple. period. No more nice negotiation.

    -------------------------------

As the battle between Samsung and Apple closed out another week in US District Court, lawyers for the latter focused its argument on evidence and testimony covering a presentation Apple made to Samsung in 2010, and its offer to license the patents. AllThingsD has the deck of slides from the meeting (embedded after the break), specifying areas and specific patents Apple believes Android as an OS infringes or things Samsung specifically copied
elements from, plus a report on testimony from Apple executive Boris
Teksler. He testified today about the meeting with Samsung, calling it a
"trusted partner" (should be, since Apple paid it paid $5.7 billion for parts that year) that both Tim Cook and Steve Jobs spoke to directly about the issue.

While more information is expected from Teksler next week, he did have
time to put a dollar amount on the licensing deal Apple subsequently
offered, at about $30 per smartphone and $40 per tablet, as well as
royalties also collected from phones running Symbian and Bada, with the
possibility of a 20 percent discount if Samsung would cross license its own technology
back to Apple. The companies are restricted by Judge Koh to 25 hours
each to argue their points (Apple is at 11 and a half hours while
Samsung has crossed over 12 with its own arguments yet to come) but
we're sure there's enough time left for a few more revelations before
    any resolution is reached.

  • OMG...apple invented music and movie too now... ...
(no wonder Samsung say go fuck yourself.
I hope samsung start charging their A5 chip +$70 each and say...If you don't like it. why don't you make phone with your so important software. ... oh that's right. you can't. and you don't have anybody fabbing your chip either. you've pissed off just about everybody. so you are fucked.)

Notice they don't mention "information search", one of the most useful feature of modern smartphone (quick internet search)  Yet they mention "touch"? lol...can't wait until people start replacing touch technology with stereoscopic camera, proximity sensor/gesture recognition,  language command, and pre fetched information.

They also don't mention the NEXT BIGGEST and most important feature for smartphone (ability to connect to other devices without cable/hassle) which requires industry wide standard.

    image
    --------------

Seriously. WHY the FUCK do people even deal with Apple?
Let them have their rounded corner and bouncy scroll and see if they can build next generation smartphone using those stuff. (and they say they can charge $100 for it...lololol... not after 2013 mofo. you are going Palm inc. Nokia. RIM.)

    1. NO MORE access to NEXT generation radio technology. (no access to integrated radio, Gen 6, no access to power saving etc. post LTE, apples is screwed.) Apple has zero wireless technology. Lesse how they build wireless device using rounded corner and bouncy scroll without radio.
    2. Apple should buy advanced low DRAM/NAND at market price. no more long term contract. (hell, they can make them on their recently acquire Elpida plant...see if they make money out of it... lololololl...)
    3. No more advanced screen. (Dear SAMSUNG. please. are you that dumb keep supplying high resolution screen to apple? They can make their own screen in that brand new Sharp plant.... of course with such high defect rate, they have to charge the new ipad 30% more.
    4. DEFINITELY NO MORE access to sub 30nm and beyond. ABSOLUTEly barred from 20nm. (There is a reason why nobody in the US wants to help Apple. They are the biggest asshole there is. Let them deal with IBM/Glofo, who they have fucked before.)
    5. No access to next generation GPU technology. make them license it.
    6. absolutely NO access to next generation touch technology, amoled, optronic, and mems. DEFINITELY NO patent access to Pen technology or speech/language translation technology in ANY language. (these two are the biggest/most wanted/very difficult technology)  Apple has no meaningful capability.
    7. Google. please be serious with next generation search technology. (multi language, natural voice, specialized subject, book searches, image recognition...etc)

  • Meanwhile the foundries are ramping the 32nm/28nm node and perfecting
HKMG technology. TSMC, the world’s largest foundry, shipped its first
mainstream 28nm product, AMD’s Radeon HD 7970 graphics processor, in
December 2011, but it won’t be able to meet demand for 28nm capacity
until the end of this year. After struggling with manufacturing yields
last year, GlobalFoundries now seems to be producing enough AMD
processors on its 32nm process with HKMG, but it won’t get to 28nm until
next year. Similarly UMC won’t have 28nm with HKMG in volume production
until next year. Samsung’s latest Exynos 4 Quad processor is
manufactured on a 32nm process, with HKMG, but it still manufactures
Apple’s A5X, the chip in Apple’s latest iPad, on an older 45nm process.
Until recently, no foundry had planned to shift to FinFETs until the
14nm node, which is still years away.

Is Samsung going to introduce A15 tablet this year? (looks impossible since nobody else does. Is google even ready for A15, ultra high resolution?)
  • Texas Instruments talks about its OMAP 5 processor

Texas Instruments told Know Your Mobile that the first batch of TI OMAP 5 processors should be hitting the market in early-2013.
Exact release dates, according to Texas Instruments, will depend on
manufacturers but the chips will be ready to go in the first quarter of
    next year.

‘The OMAP 5 foundation consists of two ARM Cortex-A15 processors,’
says TI, ‘two ARM Cortex-M4 processors and various accelerators/engines
that enable the very best performance at mobile-friendly power levels.’

ARM Cortex A9 chips are currently the de facto choice of many chipmakers, including current market-leaders Qualcomm and Samsung.
However the advent of A15 Cortex chipsets, which we should see in
late-2012, will make laptop-like performance on mobile phones and
    tablets a very real possibility.

    You are late TI...

  • Here comes the low cost 40nm chips...

China's Rockchip Dual-Core ARM Beats Qualcomm Snapdragon, NVIDIA Tegra & Samsung Exynos

At Computex Taipei 2012, the company unveiled products based on the
    RK3066, first-generation dual-core chip based on ARM Cortex-A9
processors and using Mali-400MP as the GPU. At first glance, it looked
like RK3066 cannot hold the candle to its contemporary competitors.
Given Rockchip's focus on creating chips as affordable as possible, the
company relied on TSMC's trusted and tried 40nm process.

On the contrary, it turned out that the results were quite remarkable
from the company which used to lag up to 20% clock-for-clock when
compared to the competition. In the Basemark 2.0 ES Taji benchmark,
tablets based on RK3066 gives its competitors a run for their money,
especially at common 1024x768 and 1280x800 screen sizes. We did not
expect to see the chip beating the acclaimed 28nm Qualcomm Snapdragon S4
design, which consists of Krait core (based on the next-gen Cortex-A15
core) and Adreno 225 GPU, which should demolish the Mali-400MP.
