Knobtweakers.net has been hacked. They've changed my password. I guess that's what I get for going silent for six months. The good news is, it looks like they hacked the site for the purpose of posting music. Maybe this should go i…

New laptop: Apple or PC?
BTW, I'm voting Mac, too, but opt for a MacBook Pro. They're better constructed. Refurbished models start at around $1,000. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=D8593B5A&nclm=CertifiedMac

New laptop: Apple or PC?
I have been using OpenOffice since before it was called OpenOffice. It's getting quite good. I use it over MS Office, because it's FREE and does everything I would need to do with MS Office.

How do you do a mashup?
I use a bunch of tools that you probably don't want to use if you're just playing around. The pros use multi-track audio sequencers like Cubase, Logic Audio, etc... I use Renoise because I'm an old fart who used to make music for vid…

Does blogging stick?
If you look for it hard enough, you might be able to find some bad poetry I wrote when I was 15 floating around the internet. I posted it originally to bulletin boards. FidoNet and the like. There are archives of all those old discussions float…

LOL (HD-DVD's DRM is cracked)
I'm pretty skeptical of the no-buttons touch-screen interface. The touch-sensitivity on chocolate is annoying as hell.

Heads up. Brutal economy ahead
Predictions: * CDs will not be dropped from wall-mart in 2007 (that's still 2-3 years out). * Another major player will start offering MP3s online, from at least one major label. * All housing markets that were up 30% in 2005-2006 will h…

Wired: Who's Killing MP3 and iTunes?
/me ships squashed his 20-year-old 10MB MFM HD Read that. Good luck. Squashed, I'm all for digital, myself. I have a lot of my collection on my 600GB RAID. On the other hand, I sometimes wish I still had my old Led Zeppelin IV album.…

I've been in a no-updates slump for ages, but traffic and subscriptions are climbing steadily. I imagine they'd be climbing quickly if I got off my arse and did something.

No, but selling sponsorships is. I'm afraid Knobtweakers is not cash positive at the moment, but I'll pay 25% commissions if you can recruit textlink and / or event sponsors.

A lot of venues will let you host shows with no money up front, and take a cut (say, 50%) of the entry fees. The one thing I'd like to stress if you take that approach is location is everything. Scout the places out on the weeknight you want t…
