News broke today that SOLAR Records founder/entrepreneur Dick Griffey died on September 24th after complications from a quadruple bypass surgery. Griffey founded SOLAR in 1977 after launching Soul Train Records with Soul Train creator Don Cornelius two years earlier. Blessed with a golden ear, Griffey signed a variety of hitmaking R&B/soul/disco acts including Shalamar, the Whispers, Lakeside, Dynasty, Klymaxx, the Deele, and Midnight Star.
