Andrew Bird played Wednesday night at In The Venue in Salt Lake City, along with Sweden's Loney Dear (formerly "Loney, Dear" - they've recently dropped the punctuation), and now I'm sitting here wondering what in the world I could write to do it justice. I already expressed my feelings for Bird's new record, and I think a lot of those same feelings of awe are very apt for his live show. Between the tape-looped whistling and violining, Martin Dosh's genius percussion, and Bird's own amazing ability to just put on a fantastic show, I just can't express [...]

Wednesday, February 4: The Authors of two of my many favourite records from January 2009 play at the Variety Playhouse. I grossly underrated how popular Andrew Bird is, so unfortunately I won't be going to the sold out show tonight at The Variety Playhouse with him and Loney Dear . I first got acquainted with the Bird man years ago when he was hitting up the festival circuits heavily, and I really dug him back then. But Armchair Apocrypha just [...]

And just like that it was done. Silver Jews front man David Berman sang his final swan-song last week via the Drag City message board ; stating his logic for leaving of the band, but almost more importantly his deepest, darkest secret was revealed - the identity of his father. We reported this , but at the time the posts had yet to been confirmed, until today. According to the Washington Dispatch , a Drag City spokeswoman confirmed the authenticity of the announcements, which [...]

Andrew Bird - "Fitz and the Dizzyspells" (Live on Letterman, 1/27/09)
This is from Tuesday night-- Andrew Bird on Letterman, doing "Fitz and the Dizzyspells" from Noble Beast . This song is the complete Andrew Bird package-- violin, whistle, vocals, and guitar-- and check out that set. [from Noble Beast ; out now on Fat Possum ]
I didn't actually realize that Andrew Bird made an appearance on the Late Show a couple of days ago until late last night. You can watch him in all of his whistling glory along with the backing of a full band (something i've yet to see him with live) performing "Fitz and the Dizzyspells." This is exactly the sort of thing that has me absolutely giddy to see him once again when he makes his way to Atlanta next week. You can get the MP3 for this live version over at [...]
Video clips from Ben Kweller and Andrew Bird's performances on David Letterman this week, both backed by local musicians.
Don't know how many of you caught this when it aired earlier this week, but in case you missed it or you'd like to check it out again (and why wouldn't you?!?), here's the incomparable Andrew Bird performing "Fitz and Dizzyspells" from his latest album Noble Beast live on the Late Show with David Letterman . Noble Beast hit stores on January 20 on Fat Possum Records . Andrew Bird performs at The National in Richmond, [...]
It's all too easy to just focus on Andrew Bird's skill as a whistler when talking about his music, but it's pretty hard not to given this incredible performance of "Fitz & Dizzyspells" on Letterman two nights ago. Bird whistles and bangs on a guitar like a whirlwind throughout the performance, impressing everyone in attendance (even Paul). "Fitz & Dizzyspells" is on Bird's recently released Noble Beast. " Noble Beast ", Andrew Bird 's latest effort, just recently got out and boy is it a treat for fans and new ears alike. Just like most of his other records, the same, but unique at the same time. His real talent as a songwriter lies in being able to create a special, distinct atmosphere around each song, paying attention to every detail, such that a unique piece comes up every time. Last night, Andew was gracious enough to play "Fitz and the Dizzyspells" live, a really sweet and joyful track, on Late Night with David [...]
The other Birdman on David Letterman. PigeonsandPlanes

Andrew Bird performed a track from his new album " Noble Beast ", 'Fitz & Dizzyspells'. It was a great performance, Dave even praised it along with Paul. Martin Dosh is even seen performing with Bird. You can watch the video below. Andrew Bird - Dear Dirty [zshare]
HANK ALTOGETHER: I'm not sure I like Andrew Bird's Noble Beast as much as his previous albums, but it's definitely growing on me, in particular the second disc Useless Creatures (which crawled up my head during a nap today). My short review is here . And here's a great vid of Bird on Letterman:

Usually we just go for a tortured pun in the headline to these late night talk show artist performances, but this one has a modicum of truth to it; Dave was demonstrably impressed with Mr. Bird's run through "Fitz & Dizzyspells" last night. He even threw it over to Paul for corroboration, so congrats on that Dr. Stringz . On stage with a full band including rhythmic ace-in-the-hole Martin Dosh and old-timey ace-in-the-hole Rotating Gramophone Speakers, Mr. Bird likely whistled and soldiered on his way into the hearts of a couple more skinny girls with glasses here. [...]
Watching this clip of Andrew Bird performing "Fitz and Dizzyspells," of his brand spanking new Noble Beast record is pretty remarkable, and not because of the enthusiastic accolades that both David Letterman and Paul Shaffer shower Bird with. It's remarkable because Bird unleashes a fury of violin plucks while bobbing his head to and fro like a white Stevie Wonder. Not only that, but he's backed up by MPLS musicians Martin Dosh--he of the tremendously underrated Wolves and Wishes --and Jeremy Ylvisaker. But NOT ONLY THAT (capitalization courtesy of John Hodgman), there are horn amps from [...]
