Blakroc is a rap/rock collab album by The Black Keys and several hip-hop and R&B artists. The whole album is pretty great and is definitely worth checking out if you like this song. They also put out an 11-part video of the process of making the album which you can find below on their website. The Black Keys are definitely one of my favorite rock bands and hearing them team up with top rappers is pretty awesome to listen to. www.blakroc.com Blakroc ft. Jim Jones & Mos Def - "Ain't [...]

Circa Survive is releasing a new EP, Appendage , on November 30. This comes after their successful third album, Blue Sky Noise , debuted back in April (it would later peak at number 11 on the Billboard charts not long after its release). Yet, only a few months later we will be graced with unheard music on Appendage , a collection of songs that were not included on Blue Sky Noise . From hearing "Stare Like You'll Stay" off the new EP, it is [...]
Ok so we may been a little busy and didn't post a video of the week last time. Here are two for you this time! This is Blakroc, a rock meets hip-hop experiment from The Black Keys and several artists from Roc-A-Fella Records. This song actually features Mos Def and Jim Jones:
Collaborations are all the rage these days. A lot of groups are shedding this idea of the act as an insular band of brothers, them against the world and all that hokum and instead are recognising the need to keep things fresh and interesting. Many artists, therefore, have reached the consensus that there is no better way to do this than to get out there and play with others. Unfortunately, the words 'super' and 'group' were found to rhyme, thus giving rock hacks like me a quick one-two to categorise any act whose members were assorted and famous in their [...]

Indie stalwarts Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear hit high-water marks with great albums this year. Yeah Yeah Yeahs went electronic and Flaming Lips darkened its sound. Super groups just kept popping up (Them Crooked Vultures, Dead Weather, Blakroc). As I look at my top albums of the year (to be released later this week), I'm surprised how many are by veteran artists despite all the great debuts by exciting new bands. Here are some of my favorite songs by the vets. [...]

If you took a listen to the 5 Score Pachyderm Mixtape V2.0 you heard a track from Dan Auerbach . While Auerbach's solo album Keep It Hid is excellent in its own right, his day job is operating as the guitarist/singer of The Black Keys along with drummer Patrick Carney . The Akron, OH-based duo are often compared to The White Stripes, sharing the same minimalistic garage-blues sound. But where Jack White has branched into other musical realms without Meg, Dan and [...]

by BBG Dan Auerbach, Jim Jones, Mos Def, Patrick Carney, and Damon Dash Just in time for the holidays and to remind the hip hop listmakers that The Ecstatic was/is the truth, the two-time Grammy nominated Mos Def has scheduled a show on 12/20 at Highline Ballroom . Tickets, though not cheap, are on sale . Mos Def was [...]

Blakroc is the epic collaboration of The Black Keys, a fantastic indie-rock/blues band, and many of today's best rappers. It's a blues/hip hop thing that ends up coming off very well. Here's a video of my favorite track and a few good mp3s. PS: Ain't Nothing Like You is instantly awesome, but the other tracks are definitely growers. If you're into hip-hop at all, give the rest of them a couple listens before you dismiss them. PPS: Mos Def is a beast. Ain't Nothing Like you (Hoochie Coo) (feat. [...]

I finally checked out the Black Keys' hip hop project BlackRoc and immediately fell for it. They back up everyone from Mos Def and Q-Tip to RZA and Ludacris. "Ain't Nothing Like You" is a good example of the the more riff-oriented tracks on the record. Combine the forceful, stomping riffs of the Black Keys [...]
Rock? Check. Hip Hop? Check. Soul? Check. Blues? Check. I have been the biggest fan of the Black Keys for years now, and when I first learned of this Dame Dash collabo, I was kind of skeptical. Especially because some of the leaked tracks weren't up to par with what the Black Keys have put out [...]
