To paraphrase Frank Zappa, rock isn't dead. It just smells funny. Maybe it seems counterintuitive, or even inappropriate, compiling a list of noise-rock records like this on a magazine calling itself PopMatters. Not so, I argue with a little bit of reflection. In 2012, the worlds weren't so far apart. This was the year the Black Keys debuted at number two on the Billboard charts -- and ended up suing Pizza Hut and Home Depot for using their in commercials without permission. Meanwhile, the Keys' most...

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Emily Berger Noise and darkness are not just fun for A Place to Bury Strangers ' frontman Oliver Ackermann. They provide him with a sort of therapy. Ackermann doesn't outright say that songwriting from a sad, angry or lost mindset makes for better music, but he does admit that dark music can actually be cathartic in working through low moments. And in the case of [...]

Recently, A Place to Bury Strangers came to The Empty Bottle in Chicago to play a show. After their performance, Oliver, Robbie and Dion were cool enough to grant some interview time with friend of VS, Birdie Garcia . Violent Success: Nice to meet you guys, you put on a hell of a performance tonight! APTBS: Nice to meet you. Cool! VS: You really know how to put on a show... [...]

I'm surprised this one is even allowed on YouTube. A Place To Bury Strangers release the visuals for "You Are The One" and go extreme with some violence, nudity, and, basically, necrophilia. Not as good as the Blood Orange video, but definitely worth your time. A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS - YOU ARE THE ONE

A Place To Bury Strangers have released a new violently bloody NSFW video for the first single from their new album, Worship . The video for " You Are The One " was shot in a grindhouse style by directing duo Matt Moroz and Tracy Maurice. The directors chose to shoot the movie on 16mm film and really captures the horror and suspense behind APTBS' music. Says the directors, "We really loved the song. The video evoked something extremely dark, weird and disturbing." Worship arrives June 11th through Dead Oceans. Watch [...]
