http://www.latitudefestival.co .uk/ Latitude Festival is in (slightly less than) two weeks now, I really cannot wait. I've not been to Latitude before but in a year without Glastonbury (though after last years mud-baths, ever increasing capacity / mainstream line-ups and old age catching up with me it could be my last) I've been looking for a few smaller, less 'mainstream' festivals to get my festival fix. Latitude is the first traditional festival where I'll be taking my tent, rather than basking in hotel based glory as at The Great Escape. I've got [...]

And here it is ladies and gents. I just about have enough cohesion left to make this happen. I would personally like to thank the following members for their amazing hard work in making this Top 50 even happen. Mark191082 for bringing it back to life, Heron for his persistence in making this Top 50 a piece of journalistic brilliance, Jack for his sheer hard work, determination and enthusiasm. But also thanks to all the staff that voted to make this happen. I honestly believe we have the most real, down to earth and honest Top 50 of the year [...]
As I was perusing Foote's rather excellent Labor Day mix post, I realized that I had some jams that had yet to make it into the wonderful world of the Muffin. I don't think I could dedicate an entire post to each of these songs, but it seemed almost negligent ...

The nominees for the annual Barclaycard Mercury Prize were just announced this morning across the pond. Wait, what is the Barclaycard Mercury Prize? You may have recognized it as simply the "Mercury Prize", the prestigious honor awarded to the BEST album of the year from the United Kingdom or Ireland. This year's nominees are (as always) an eclectic bunch, see them all below (arranged alphabetically, click on the band name to visit their site) along with a video and tell us who you fancy, eh? Fazer um post a partir do local de trabalho é tudo menos um hábito para mim. Ainda menos habitual é a hora a que o estou a fazer e o dia da semana... Seguem-se duas coisinhas excelentes mas bem diferentes mas eu... Não Digo Nada :) The National - Slow Show Bat For Lashes - Daniel Links: www.myspace.com/thenational www.myspace.com/batforlashes
It's no secret that we're all up in Bat for Lashes' steez , and not just because Natasha Khan wields that big percussion staff (Like a wizard!) and makes video homages to The Karate Kid 's Daniel LaRusso (see the above video). If we did need a better reason to like this British outfit, it would be because, as an artist, Khan is on another level than her pop music peers. Think Kate Bush, or Bjrk. She's that good. Tonight's performance at the Doug Fir is sold out, but dry your eyes since Bat for Lashes [...]
Bat for Lashes é o nome artístico da cantora e compositora inglesa Natasha Khan. [...]
Brighton, England's Natasha Khan has been all over the press recently--including the covers of Under The Radar and Fader --for her work as the melancholy-tinged and snyth-centered Bat for Lashes. In 2007, Khan's video for "What's A Girl To Do?" --a neighborhood bicycle romp filmed like a cultish 80s horror film--helped launch the artist with almost three million hits on YouTube. Khan won't need the extra attention for her video for this year's Two Suns single "Daniel," but she certainly hasn't lost any interest in the cult adventures of the 80s. The Monster [...]

Bat For Lashes Two Suns (04.2009, Astralwerks) RIFL: mystical magic, goji berries, spiritual crystals, or mythical beasts Two Suns came out last month and I wasn't sure if I liked it. I have since given it many listens over and I have been won over, but not completely. I fell head over heals for Fur and Gold when it was first released, but then became slightly disenchanted after some time passed. It's just so theatrical that it's hard to repetitively digest. Well, Two Suns is even more [...]
April was one hell of a month. Lily hit America, new members were introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, No Doubt released its first new song in roughly six years, Eminem dropped his first (hugely underwhelming) video from his forthcoming album Relapse and a group of Frenchmen played SNL. But aside from all of that are Culture Bully’s favorite things from the month of April 2009.
Somewhat surprisingly for a blog proprietor, I went through a brief spell where I didn't listen to a great deal of music. I think it was perhaps due to being inundated with a wealth of new music via our email and not having the time nor will to listen to it all, so I spent my time doing various other things. As I said this spell lasted only a brief time and when I moved past it I listened to a lot of newer stuff in addition to giving some other previously owned music a new chance. [...]

For years I've been watching Subterranean on MTV2, and before that, the original MTV alternative/indie music video show 120 Minutes . While YouTube has lessened the impact of video shows like Subterranean, I still like to tune in each week to see a handful of interesting indie videos. Much like Sirius XMU's "Download 153 playlist, I don't understand why these playlists aren't archived online, so I've taken it upon myself to do so. This week's Subterranean was hosted by Matt & Kim and featured artists from Green Label Sound. My fav was "Bigg [...]

Toronto - If you look up 'Hot Fiya' in the dictionary, you might stumble upon a picture of Natasha Khan, because her band Bat For Lashes is about the hottest thing in this imaginary internet music blogging world we think we live in. With heaping praise from Thom Yorke to Pitchfork Media, Bat For Lashes' second album - Two Suns is the defacto conversation subject for hipsters to impose their musical superiority. "Oh you haven't listened to Two Suns yet? It's soo good". With all the hype, it's just as easy to dismiss it as 'the [...]

Weird video, rad song. Enjoy!
